Texas Softball 2024 - Farewell to the Big 12 (and back to OKC?)

I don't really get conference tournaments. To me, the season ended last week.  I get the seeding implications and all but that seems more appropriate for bubble teams.

Anyway, on to the real playoffs.

OU has to be the favorite for the natty, yet again.  They get nothing but home games from here on out, and they have the experience and the pitching.

We still have shaky defense at times and get utterly annihilated against good pitching.

Maybe Mike can use this loss and OU's rah rah bullshit to fire the team up.  We need to play with intensity in these big games.  We have to get on good teams early.  It's a must.

Starting next year, the conference tournament won't be an annual set of home games for OU. Thankfully

But the WCWS will. They're always going to have that home field advantage and we are going to have to beat them there.

Selection Day bracketology I just saw -

1 Texas - hosting Utah, St. Francis PA and the winner of the Horizon League tournament (Cleveland St. or Northern Kentucky)
16 Baylor (hosting TXST)

2 OU - 15 Alabama
8 LSU - 9 Stanford
7 UCLA - 10 Missouri
4 OKST - 13 aggy (hosting BYU)
3 Tennessee - 14 Louisiana (hosting Texas Tech)
5 Florida (hosting FSU and UCF) - 12 Georgia
6 Duke  - 11 Arkansas

Big 12: Texas, OU, OKST, Baylor, UCF, BYU, Texas Tech.  Kansas has played their way out (RPI 49) with no really good wins (1 win over aggy).
UCF - RPI 43, won 2/3 versus Kansas, 9 top 50 wins
BYU - RPI 47, has 2 wins over OKT and a win over OU, 8 top 50 wins, swept KU
Tech - RPI 40, 2 good wins over TXST and Baylor, 8 top 50 wins, took 2/3 from KU

KU is the odd one out because they dropped the series to all 3 of the other Big 12 bubble teams.

Baylor has 5 top 25 wins, and  their 2 wins over top 10 teams (Mizzou, UCLA) may be what gets them the last hosting bid.

If chalk, WCWS would be:

Bracket 1 - Texas, LSU, OKST, Florida
Bracket 2 - OU, UCLA, Tennessee, Duke

If true, our regional is a cake walk.  But OK state and LSU in our bracket in WCWS versus UCLA and Duke for OU looks no bueno to me.  Although UCLA is a much different team now than when we run ruled them.

Oh I’d hate that draw for us. Like ouch, and OU would cakewalk to the finals with the lack of offense by Duke and Tennessee

Well it’s also not the final bracket. It’s just a guess.

Unless OU falls to 4/5, we will be kept separate from them. They are no worse than 3 and likely #2

Northwestern as our two feels like fuckery is afoot

The B1G was absolutely garbage this year.  Regular season champ with an RPI around 30

Fuckery would have been TXST to be honest

Fair enough. I don't know enough about them. I guess I remember them being in the WCWS recently.

Fuck it. Bring on everyone

OU 2, Tenn 3, Florida 4, OKST 5

OU gets 52 winner Boston

OKST gets Michigan (B1G tournament champs) and Kentucky

UCLA 6, 7 Missouri, 8 Stanford

Duke shunned bc of lack of top 10 wins, same with LSU due to finishing 8th in the SEC

So far, not seeing too many issues for the top seeds except maybe Tenn (bc Miami OH can hit)

They graduated the player that got them to OKC (Danielle Williams)

13 Louisiana, ft Baylor

14 Bama

15 FSU, ft UCF

16 aggy, ft TXST and Penn State

Man, TXST could take that one! That’s a tough regional for aggy

No Tech or BYU

I hope it blows up in their faces and TXST wins

Committee was slacking, only 1 potential SEC-SEC super matchup

(1) Texas v. (16) Texas A&M
(2) Oklahoma v. (15) Florida State
(3) Tennessee v. (14) Alabama
(4) Florida v. (13) Louisiana
(5) Oklahoma State v. (12) Arkansas
(6) UCLA v. (11) Georgia
(7) Missouri v. (10) Duke
(8) Stanford v. (9) LSU

Duke - played nobody, hence no top 8 (mostly Q3/4 games)

LSU - finished the season poorly, so got booted from top 8

Cant believe no one asked how Bama got a top 16 seed as a team that finished 10-14 in SEC play

The NCAA had to do it one last time. They were not going to miss the opportunity.

Trying not to be too debbie downer, but if we make it to the WCWS (which I think we all fully expect), I could easily see us dropping one to Canady and then Kilfoyl (as we did during the season), and then our season is over.  But whatever, if you want to be the best, you gotta beat great pitching.  I just don't trust our bats against top notch pitching.  We tend to go into a shell and swing like idiots.

Also, while it's hard to bitch about the #1 seed, I will.  At the super level, I see why the committee gave us A&M, but that matchup is kinda bullshit when you consider, say, Tennessee draws fucking Alabama, who finished like 9th in the conference.  Their RPIs are similar, but I watched some bammer games this year and they are not very good.  Plus A&M took 2/3 from them at their place.  Oh well.  Just win.

Aggy being 16 was BS. It should be Bama or TXST hosting instead of Bama

Itll be interesting to see us in OKC. Scary but hey, if we want to win it, we have to go through some damn good pitchers. Every team will. OU would have to go through Pickens and Gotschall and the Mizzou staff is pretty good too

Mitchell and Simpson win the most animated reaction award. Stewie with the most composed response (seems on brand). Best reaction is the dog with the UT jersey trying to figure out why everyone is yelling. Lulz.

The bad news - I'm out of the country until next Tuesday, so regional coverage will fall to y'all.  I'll do my best to follow along, especially for our regional, but I'm probably SOL on watching and keeping up in real time.

I have failed you all.

This article may be appropriate for another forum and may be posted there,  but it will further impact parking/logistics for softball and baseball.    Especially with the expected increase in crowds with the SEC.

The University of Texas will move forward with a graduate student housing project that will bring 576 beds along with entertainment, dining and grocery options. The UT System Board of Regents on Thursday approved the university's proposal to build the project at 1900 Comal St.

The new development is the second phase of the university's plan to expand graduate student housing, UT President Jay Hartzell told the American-Statesman on Thursday. The new complex will be built near another new graduate student housing project UT plans to open in the fall with about 780 beds.

It will also be near UT's athletic facilities and will have five new beach volleyball courts, which will allow the UT women's team to host NCAA competitions.

The committee is terrible, but putting the 20 RPI at the #1 would have been way worse than what they did.

TXST went 4-0 vs aTm and PSU in the regular season.  Nice to see aggy get screwed, but we got screwed more.

How the fuck is Bama hosting as a 14 seed when they went under 4 games under .500 in conference?  Complete bullshit.
