Phillies offer for Tucker was apparently Bohm and Castellanos. LOL. A guy with 3.8 WAR in 5 seasons and career .736 OPS and a replacement-value veteran owed $40M over the next 2 seasons.

On what fucking planet?

50 homer season incoming lol

Paredes is only 25? Jesus in my head he was 30. Seems like he has been around awhile

Deals done according to Choadler

Sounds like Smith is gonna need another year in the minors.  He was in AA last year.

Damn, another hero gone.

Seems like a solid deal though.

This team is going to be so much different, hopefully better than what we trotted out last year.

That's a solid trade.  If they fix Wesneski, it gets lopsided.

To be fair, he was playing in college 6 months ago.

Yep. Huge sophomore year for FL State and then quickly mashed his way through A and A+ (27 games) before spending the final week of the season in AA. I imagine he starts 2025 in Corpus, but should have a pretty streamlined path to MLB in 2026.

Yeah, he's not behind schedule or anything, just don't expect him this year.  He was also a 19 year old high school senior, so he only played 2 years at FSU before the Cubs drafted him.

Sounding more and more like Cubs soon.

Paredes and Cam Smith main guys

That’s a horrible deal without Suzuki. Dana getting outclassed and outsmarted again. Tim Púrpura 2.0

From what I heard, Suzuki wouldn't waive his no-trade clause.

Unconscionable that Suzuki is not part of the deal. That is fucking total incompetence. Crane can take his $20 tall boys and shove it, I’m not spending hundreds of dollars a game to watch this shit in person anymore. Fucking loser and so is his GM. Brown is worse than fucking Tim Púrpura.

You can't trade for someone who won't waive their no trade

Bingo

Then you don't do it

I don't mind Paredes and Smith. Wesneski is meh to me, so I feel like we needed another piece.

I would tried to throw in Pressly and have them include Bellinger (even though he is a bitch)

Disagree man. I think this is a good deal.

I think we’re going to be good here. 3 young mlb’ers for a one year rental is impressive

now the bregman domino can start falling !

Yeah, please take our trash too, Chicago!

Sounds like their offer was just Paredes and Smith and we worked to get Wesneski added. Hopefully it works out in 2026 and beyond.

Sucks.  Why are we selling off when we're overwhelming division favorites?

Chas and Jake both in the field at the same time! Prepare your anus

I wonder what Santander would sign for

Suzuki made that a palatable deal that I can live with. Without him, we got played. You don’t make that deal without him waiving his no-trade. Bring Tucker back and see where we are at the trade deadline. The incentives to tank that we used so well with the GOAT are no longer there. How long do we have to suffer with Crane who doesn’t realize the game is changed and the same playbook  will not work, especially with a mental midget at GM. Dana has half the brain power of Luhnow.

Because we were never going to sign Kyle Tucker.

This is the right move.

to be fair, nippon closing in midtown was a huge blow for japanese mlb players

cubs are going to love tucker
They are also going to love finishing 3rd in the NL Central

Yeah, I have been totally overreacting on the Texas football, Texans and Rockets threads this year - you know I’m pretty damn happy with all 3 and think we are in good hands with the people running those teams. Excuse me for being pissed that the dynasty is being destroyed before our eyes with a substandard deal for one of our best, young players. Crane’s irrational aversion to deals longer than 6+ years is not shared any any of the big boys in baseball and shows he is not truly committed to winning by going toe to toe with the Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Phillies, etc. for fuck’s sake, at least Drayton kept his core guys long term with this team. Fucking Crane would have let Biggio go to Colorado.

I'm fine with this deal.

I think if Paredes plays 75+ games next season at home, he's almost surely going to hit 25-30 HR. And despite his .232 career average, he gets on base at a decent clip (17% K rate and takes a healthy amount of BB).

Cam Smith seems very likely to be a contributor for us across the 2nd half of this decade.

But man, as it stands currently, our OF look like a giant Achilles Heel in 2025. Yordan's going to primarily DH, so right now get ready for a whole, whole lot of Jake, Chas, Dubon and (insert current minor-leaguer).
