And Exum is lost for the year.

They're literally a player not coming back from injury from having to forfeit a game in the near future. They can't add any 2 way players and have no cap/roster space, that I Know of, to add anyone.

The curse of Nico(or the Curse of Luka whatever) is going to haunt us real Mavs fans forever.

Not sure what you mean by “real fans” these days.

I was there at the beginning. I stayed with the Mavs when Kiki refused to come.  I stayed in when Derek Harper dribbled out the clock. I stayed in when Tarpley relapsed. I stayed in when Donaldson got hurt. I stayed in when Randy White didn’t pan out. I stayed in for the whole of the 90’s. I stayed in for every bad beat and trade that didn’t work and lost free agent and defection and every tough break, and there were lots. I’ve been through everything for 45 years and never wavered, but all that is changed. It’s all different now.

Exactly. Fuck this ownership. I'll never support anything they do. I mean, even new ownership wouldn't make a difference. I hope the Lakers win it all very soon.

I've got a saying for this imbecile.  "it's never easy to make stupid decisions, unless you are an idiot. Then they are remarkably easy."

It wasn’t a shot at any fans. Should have said the ones that are still here. My bad.

if I haven’t left the cowboys or rangers after all their years I won’t be leaving Dallas. Even if I have the entire front office and ownership now.

I support the players.  Not the people above them.

meanwhile, Luka is cooking the Suns

There are few things more fun about NBA basketball than Luka’s continued domination of the Suns. I think he just delights in making Booker look silly every single time they play. His mic’d up comments during the game were impressive. The never been so open comment was hilarious.

No, I get what you’re saying and it’s fair. I support the players too. I feel terrible for all of them. But this is beyond the Cowboys and Rangers.
I’ve been plenty frustrated with the ownership and front office of the rangers  and cowboys, who have been cheap, stupid, selfish, greedy, myopic and everything else at times. But both of them have always understood the value of their asset came from the fans and the city. That’s why owners talk about stewardship all the time. Because if they don’t, they lose a lot of money.

The Adelson Dumont regime either doesn’t understand that or doesn’t care, but either way, the Mavericks are just a chess piece for them, and they behave accordingly. The value the team has lost (estimated to be on the order of $500-$700mm is a rounding error for them within the scope of Las Vegas Sands, inc.
So effectively, they aren’t the Dallas Mavericks anymore. It doesn’t feel like our team.

Would anyone really be mad if the Adelsons moved the team? I would be way more behind a shitty expansion team at this point. I just can't root for a team owned by this bunch. Maybe if they came out and actually apologized for making the worst trade in league history and also fired Nico, I could start to get back on board.

The players will continue to get paid and life will go on for them. Same for anyone else employed in the organization. The fans are the ones it sucks for the most. They are the ones devoting their resources, time and money, to watch this product. Many of them have very limited resources, but supporting them gives happiness. Mavs were a bright spot in the DFW sports world. Actually, 3 of the 4 have really good shots every year to make noise. Mavs are now completely shot future wise. I wish they would just move them and give Dallas a fresh start with a new team.

This whole trade stinks in many ways. If it isn't to tank the team to move to Vegas, then is it to make the Lakers relevant for the long term now that LeBron is nearing the end?

Even the Jones family in Dallas wouldn't make this kind of trade. A 30 for 30 will be done in the future about all the ramifications of this trade. I'm sure people will speak about it in a book or whatever, too. I still randomly just think "WTF they really traded Luka" at times through the days. I've never seen a trade in my sports watching days that made less sense than this if you really say any of the above isn't true. If it was AD and a slew of picks and even maybe Austin Reeves, then maybe but nah, because I'd rather have the proven in Luka than picks that will be hit or miss. And if the Lakers have Luka, their draft position isn't going to give Dallas great picks, either. They didn't even shop this at all, all other GMs were baffled at this. It happened at midnight on a Saturday night.

AD, with his injury, is apparently healthy enough to be on the golf course and smoking cigars. So glad Luka was traded for smoking hookah. Cigars are way better for you.

Losers of 12 of the last 14 with 13 left.  It’s very realistic they don’t win another game the rest of the year.

gonna be hilarious when the spurs get the #1 pick in the lottery again.

Hookah = taking a vacation, fat, unacceptable

Golf+Cigar while injured during season = Mamba mentality

Did Michael Finley jump out of a bunker to knock the cigar out of his mouth?

Golf is the worst activity for someone with his injury. Which begs a few questions:

1. Just how injured is AD really?

2. If he's really as injured as they claim, who the hell is overseeing his rehab?

I had a feeling when this trade went down, AD would be mentally checked out and we'd hardly see him on the court here. He lasted less than 3 quarters and hasn't been seen since. He didn't want to come here, he loved his situation in LA with Lebron.

Great job, Nico. Fuck you.

Too soon to watch things like this. I’ll wait for the 30 for 30 in like 10 years.

The video, which was discussing the book, seems to implicate Kidd a lot more than previously known. The further we get away from the trade, the more this stinks of Nico and Kidd being ego driven and Dumont just being a basketball dumbass who put his trust in the wrong people.

In public Kidd has said Luka could be the goat.

Kidd looked completely nonplussed in that PC. I don’t think you can fake that

Kidd could have been complaining a lot behind the scenes but still be surprised the move happened without him knowing.

Finley probably jumped in the bunker hoping to dodge all the missile strikes directed at the front office.

My wife complains about wanting new furniture and kitchen and bathroom updates, but I’m pretty sure she doesn’t want me to burn the house down

Mike Finley is a professional’s professional in everything he does and Jason Kidd is … Jason Kidd.
I have no doubt that both of those guys spent years frustrated with the fact that Luka didn’t focus maniacally on rehab/conditioning in the offseason and maintained some vices during the season in addition to being creatively irrepressible on the court. They probably talked about it with Nico and had some communication issues with Luka.
That said, both of those guys know what a GOAT-tier player is, the importance of working around them, and what they are worth.
I am 100% convinced they didn’t know this was happening until it was in motion and were very uncomfortable with it, whether or not they tried to stop it, particularly Finley.

You can't be a GOAT level player and not focus on fitness and conditioning, though.  Did anyone see Luka playing 70 games a season 10 years from now at age 35?  I certainly didn't and still don't.  All time talent, though.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the trade was unbelievably bad but they weren't wrong in their original reasons.

I understand you point,  but there’s a significant amount of personal maturing that happens from 26-30 years old.
And you were not making the comparison or defending the trade but it’s worth mentioning that Anthony Davis has only played 70 games once since 2018, when he was 25.
