Couldn't link because the Tweet was deleted but here is the context.

The president of YPF (the Argentinian oil company and Colapinto's sponsor) who forgot the microphone was on and revealed off-line that Colapinto would be competing in the Alpine from Imola.

Red Flags podcast was discussing whether Doohan was going to get the boot soon, so that tracks.

I know many are waiting for the flexiwing for Red Bull, but are there other upgrades that have been rumored for the other teams aside from AM who basically have given up on this year?

Apparently, contrary to what we've been hearing until the last couple of days, AM also has promising upgrades coming for the next 2 or 3 races. Seems they're having epiphanies based on the data from their new wind tunnel, learning where they've gone wrong, etc. Apparently they could only access the MB-AMG wind tunnel on weakends. That might explain some things.

Uh oh, is newey already working his magic

AFAIK, they're still saying Newey is dedicated to the 2026 car and that the new wind tunnel is the difference, but who knows.

Reports were that Papa Stroll was pissed because Newey said he was focusing on next year's car, not going to help with the current car

I can't put much stock in that. Newey is gonna focus on whatever Stroll tells him to focus on.

Merc’s wind tunnel is also pretty old. It seems like state of the art wind tunnels are key to these ground effect cars. McLaren got a new  wind tunnel at the end of 2023, and they have nailed it with every single update since then and are the first customer team to win a title in a long, long time. No other team has been able to consistently develop their car without huge setbacks that weren’t seen in their wind tunnel/sims.

60% scales seems like bullshit when they aren’t allowed to test their cars on a track. If making 90% of development theoretical, just let them have a full size wind tunnel

Pardon my idiocy, as I only have a BA.  But does the 60% matter?  Isn't it just some nerdy engineering math problem at that point?  I am serious, and will take criticism for my potentially horrible take.

I only stayed at a holiday inn recently, but I assume since they restrict wind tunnel size, there has to be an advantage to a full size model/testing wind tunnel. Otherwise why bother with the restriction?

Seems like every team talks about their struggles to get the wind tunnel results to match the on track results.

Fuckers get to be in F1 AND fly with the Blues. I was born at Pensacola NAS where the Blues train, and have probably seen them perform 20 times. Was in Navy ROTC at UT with the intention of heading to flight school until my shitty UT grades reared their ugly heads. I was soooo not ready for UT. Man, I'd cut off a nut for a ride-along like that one. I mean, I'm 59, so let's be honest, I no longer need 2 of 'em anyway. Took a ride on a full air show practice aerobatic ride in a Confederate Air Force T6 back in the day, piloted by my then-girlfriend's (no pics) dad. Those CAF dudes were crazy af. Fun ride. /csb

Bring back in-season testing, for myriad reasons. Just include it under the budget cap along with everything else and let the teams figure the rest out.

I flunked out of Aerospace Engineering as a freshman at UT, does that count?

My kid was telling me there's also some talk about Merc's wind tunnel being 'too smooth', i.e. it doesn't have a way to re-create bumpy track conditions. There's some speculation that this is one reason they've had so much trouble with ground effects.

Rather have Spa every year and Miami every other.

Agreed, though some prefer the scenic views from a parking lot with an elevation change of maybe 10' over a classic track cut through the hills of Belgium.
