Not sure if this is the best thread, but it's related to health and longevity.  Has anyone tried Restore from a company called Cheers?   https://cheershealth.com/products/restore

Yes, I know that the best way to combat alcohol's effects on your body is to not drink at all.  But, for those times when you might consume more than a couple drinks in one setting (e.g., football games, dinner parties, drinking alone in your garage), the science behind this product is interesting.  Many of you may already know this, but when the body is trying to metabolize alcohol, it converts alcohol to acetaldehyde, which is way more toxic than alcohol.  This, along with dehydration, is why we can feel like shit the next morning after significant alcohol consumption.  And, acetaldehyde is a carcinogen, which is why alcohol has been linked to a higher rate of cancer.

This product includes cysteine, which converts acetaldehyde into a non-toxic compound and supposedly neutralizes its negative effects on the body, allowing you to metabolize alcohol more efficiently, and reducing the hangover effects.

A couple of my friends recently purchased these capsules and claim they work.  Anyone here ever tried this?

Can't speak to this product but I saw an ad for an anti-hangover pill once. It was basically some combo of vitamins and salts. The directions were to take their pill after each alcoholic drink along with a full glass of water. lol.

Seriously if someone is worried about the health outcomes from drinking, cut back or quit.

Don't know anything about it, but there is another brand, ZBiotics, that claims to do something similar.  You might check it out to see if it uses the same process or something different.

This sums up my attitude on the pills:

https://www.nm.org/healthbeat/healthy-tips/do-hangover-pills-really-work

If you're just talking about a couple of drinks, try the supplements and see if they help with hangovers.  It's probably a bunch of B vitamins that perk you up and make your pee yellow.

If you are trying to prevent liver damage, I couldn't find much to support the idea behind the claims on cystine.  This study is pretty weak (animal models and low participant #) and from 2010.  I didn't dig deeper than that because I need to get to work.

Just drink a liquid IV or any brand of electrolytes before you start drinking and that usually offsets 90% of a hangover

As I wrote about earlier in this thread, I have slightly elevated BP and cholesterol #s which are controlled via meds. I would describe my PCP as not into uncommon tests or numbers for which he says that there is little to be done. I like him but that aspect bothers me a bit. I have a family history of heart problems so I interested in learning more even if its just understanding the genetic component. This week I signed up, on my own, for more health tests at Labcorp: LP(a), and their Heart Health Test including ApoB.

Is there anyone else into testing on their own?

My PCP has rightfully indicated that if I'm that concerned about my heart health, then I should follow as healthy of a diet and exercise regime as possible and then not worry about anything. I don't disagree with that advice but I'm also a numbers guy. I also wouldn't describe myself as worrying about my health as I can be fairly unemotional about it.

Not that I expect anyone to be on the edge of their seats waiting on my health #s but to wrap up my story, the Lp(a) and ApoB results were low (good.) Statins keep my cholesterol to normal (low) level. unfortunately I've pulled myself the wrong direction in a diabetes risk index (DRI), which is supposed to give better insight than just a1c to identify the risk of developing type 2. I need to get off the path of turning into wilford brimley.

I believe it was Troph I mentioned this to in the thread from a couple years, but Stan Efferding and his 10-minute walks are something you should seriously consider. Might check into his vertical diet as well and see if that’s something that you could do.

We had a thread specifically on longevity that fell off when this thread popped up. We talked  about it on that thread.

I try to walk 10 mins twice a day on my days off (from a workout) and after dinner as much as I can.

major help on blood sugar.

Jist of it is a 10 mins walk after every meal helps keep your blood sugar in check.

but it’s only one thing and that isn’t enough. You gotta make all the changes once you’re in the danger zone. Wellness isn’t a singular decision it’s a thousand decisions. It’s how pharma took hold of our medicine, they (erroneously and falsely) offer a magic pill solution.

at some point, we have to enjoy taking care of our bodies and our minds, when that enjoyment and satisfaction hits with every healthy decision, then we have a sustainable solution.

Nice one, troph. I work from home, so it can be a challenge. Twice a day I get up and walk back and forth from my bedroom, through the kitchen, living room, down the stairs, across the basement to the back bedroom. Reverse course back to my bedroom. rinse. repeat.

Effectively I end up in the basement right under where I started. It’s not much, but it’s something I can do during the day and not be “unavailable.” I shoot for 10 minutes, but force a minimum of 5. Sometimes a tick more than 10.

Drives the dog nuts. She doesn’t get basement access, so from my room to the stairs (and back from there) it’s like a parade. From time to time I make a couple laps around the upstairs just to fuck with her.

yea I work from home too, it's hard to get up and do it, days come and go and I don't. every chance to make the decison matters though. like today I haven't walked yet at all and I can feel my back wanting to tighten up.  this shit is brutal, it just never stops.

I bought these pills based on your post above, on pure whim and curiosity. I've tried hangover pills before, they're all bollocks. I've done hydrating during and before bed, and I'm no stranger to IVs in vegas, etc. In other words, I'm no stranger to how I feel after drinking, and the remedies, and at 45, pretty much anything more than 4 and I can tell the next day I was drinking, even if I don't feel bad. Anything past 6 and I'm guaranteeing a hangover.

These pills are expensive...and I've got to say, based on the sample size of exactly one, I can tell a fucking difference.

Last night I probably had 7 drinks, starting at 4 pm, ending at 9 pm. I followed the instructions, went to bed, woke up at my usual 4-430 feeling like I haven't had a drink in days. I'm...going to continue experimenting with this shit after I get back from California, since that trip is going to be mostly dry.
