Clearly its in the Leafs heads more than anything.  Definitely a different kind of pressure in Toronto.  But having >50% of your salary cap allocated to 4 forwards also seems like shit roster construction for a deep playoff run.

cats getting fucked

assume they flew direct to raleigh last night where canes have been sleeping in their own beds for 3 days - no competing fixture in that arena - canes have it to themselves

oil also finished 4 days ago so they have been resting and probably not even in dallas yet - regardless mavs dead so no fixture congestion at the bAArn

Dallas got fucked similarly last year with schedule.
could be concert related issues, not other sports stuff. Unless AAC and others don’t accept such events during certain windows to best accommodate potential tenant use during playoffs.

I think the reason for the Stars Weds start is that ESPN gets first pick to air either the Western Conference or Eastern Conference finals under the TV rights deal and they chose the West this year.   I'm guessing either the NBA was already slotted for a Tuesday start OR it somehow otherwise worked out best for them, because ESPN chose the series and the start date.  So good for us!   AAC actually had to move a Katy Perry concert that was supposed to be Weds night apparently.

Apparently, that's not the case.  Katy Perry had a concert scheduled at AAC on Wednesday that's now being postponed.

eta: just saw @Skipper beat me to it.

we went out to the avs in 2 consecutive years either side of the lockout seasons

Yep, I covered one of those Avs-Stars series. We got crushed in that series. The Avs used to play the "You're my boy, Blue!" soundclip from Old School after every Colorado goal back then. We heard it a lot that series, which I think was over in five games if memory serves.

this is my understanding from knowing a guy on the Canes broadcast crew. ESPN got first pick and elected to take the WCF this year. TBF I can't blame them since they made the pick after Game 5 of Panthers-Leafs apparently and Canes-Panthers is likely to be a bloodbath for TV ratings.

I can't believe there's no hockey tonight. I has a sad

No shit, and there's a very light baseball schedule, too.

I may have to eat dinner at an actual table with my wife and have conversation about how her day went.  I'm not sure I'll survive this.

This idea that playoff hockey means no penalties sure does change things. Not only are special teams an important part of the game that gets shelved, but look at how Florida is taking advantage physically.  You could say Carolina needs to get more physical but guys out there just hunting each other isn’t what the NHL should want to highlight.

anyway, panthers are terminators.

I hate throwing individual players under the bus but holy hell, Scott Morrow was Florida's best player last night. Problem is he's a defenseman on Carolina.

That was his playoff debut, no? Seems like a suspect time to try to get a new player up to speed

yep, just a bad situation for the kid, I really don't get why they didn't run it back with Nikishin after game 5 in DC, especially if the guy they were going to put him with is the guy that's prettymuch only on the team because he can run a PP but tends to be pretty bad in his own zone.

this sorta plays into why I haven't been buying the Carolina hype. they're not nearly as deep as the rest of the field and their "boring" brand of hockey seems to peter out long about this round, when the chaff has been separated and the real contenders have emerged. them seemingly not matching FLA's intensity isn't a great harbinger for them. it's only one game, but debuting a rookie d-man in the conference finals doesn't seem ideal.

They’re prisons.  Man made prisons!  You’re doing time!

Yikes, I might have given Carolina too much credit saying they'll lose in 7. Not a great start for them

The only thing stopping FLA this round is the wear-and-tear of going to back-to-back finals and then the conference finals the next year. It’s pretty hard to repeat but damn, they look the part.

on one end I totally get that. On the other side of things this year was a bit of a retool to begin with so even getting to the ECF is more than most of us were expecting. The only real critique I have of this season is that they weren't able to bring in a veteran RHD for depth at the deadline. My only hope the rest of the way is breaking the 0-fucking 13 in our conference finals record since the Cup, anything beyond forcing a game 5 in this series is a bonus.
