Gonna check out Plaza de Mayo, Teatro Colon, the two big museums, parks, etc.  Probably do the hop-on-hop-off bus thing -- had good success with that in other cities.  And we may try to catch a flight out to Iguazu Falls.  We purposely left this mostly unplanned -- checklist, not a schedule.

What else do I need to know?

We'll be there 5 nights...

Have coffees and snacks (tostados - thin crispy sandwiches) at any number of confiterias.

For a classic parilla mixta, try La Estancia on Lavalle (and get it with everything, all the meats):

Hot chocolate and churros at Cafe Tortoni.

Maybe take the ferry shuttle (buquebus?) over to Colonia (Uruguay) one day.  It's a more chill, mellow place, so decide if that's your vibe.

Consider checking out Recoleta and the cemetery, check out the San Telmo market (on the weekend is best).

Iguazu is a bit of a big bite for a day trip - really need an overnight there to appreciate it.

I spent a month there last summer and loved it. I stayed in Palermo Soho which is a fun albeit touristy neighborhood. All the things you listed are good options for a short visit. Check out Steaks by Luis for an impressive meat culinary experience.

Iguazu can be done in a day with an early/late flight out of the Newbery airport. I walked through it in about two hours and was impressed but ready to go after.

I went to a pro soccer game which was a lot of fun. An estancia visit might be fun.

Steaks and wine at La Cabrera were damn good about 15 years ago (wow I’m getting old).

Looks like La Bomba de Tiempo is still going on Monday nights.

Go to a soccer game. There are at least 5 teams that play in BA.

San Telmo Market

Choripan every day! I ate lunch several times at this super cheap home in the wall. Everything there was delicious, not just the choripan.

River Plate delta tours in Tigre, you can take a public train up there or there are boats

Dinner at Don Julio's Parilla, there are other great parilla's all over town and I dinner at one almost every night. Both Desnivel and Nuestra Parilla were near us and incredible.

Boca Junious or River Plate soccer game. I did the Boca Juniors stadium museum and saw a River Plate match. Incredible experience.

Thanks, y'all!

Someone mentioned Recoleta: that's where we're staying.  Got a pretty good deal on an Air BnB apartment right there near a ton of stuff.

And I like the Uruguay day trip idea a lot.

Yeah, we did that and the fine arts museum today.  The latter is pretty average, but the cemetery is cool, especially Eva Perón's mausoleum.  Had a pretty good pork sammich, too.  Good day.

I follow a BA expat forum as I've considered buying a small place down there for my retirement years. There is a lot of talk by expats about how expensive day to day living has become the last couple of years. It's obviously related to their economic policies, but I've never bothered to learn the why of it.

When I was there for a month last summer, I definitely noticed that everything seemed relatively a lot more expensive than my previous visits in 2015 and 2018. I also noticed the quality of the food, particularly the meat, had degraded quite of bit. I still love it down there, but I won't consider buying until they work through all this mess.

Y aunt would advise you to leave your nice watch at home

....unless you've got my late oilfield-trash-tough mom with you as "security."  She could handle that shit.

Sorry that I am just seeing this.

There is zero reason to travel to Buenos Aires and visit their national museum.

The coolest thing about the museum is that it was originally the water treatment plant/water pump that would send water to the Palacio de las Aguas Corrientes on Av. Córdoba between Calle Riobamba & Calle Ayacucho.

Steaks by Luis if you can get in. Really cool experience. One of the most unique dinners I have ever enjoyed.

Something is either unique or it isn’t. “Unique” can’t be qualified.

@TexArcher if you want a walking tour of the Plaza de Mayo area, let me know and I will send you a map with about 20-ish points of interest right around there.

It is best to go when the banks are open (10am-3pm M-F), because 2 to 3 banks down there are really cool, as is a basilica that is only open during the week and is just 2 blocks off the Plaza de Mayo.

Sure, that would be appreciated!

I'm heading that way today or tomorrow.  I already know about Teatro Colon, Iglesia de San Ignacio, and Palacio Barolo in that general area.  What else ya got?
