As soon as the leaves were pretty well down and the weather became rainy, accompanied by light snows, these men, after acting the part of husbandmen, so far as the state of warfare permitted them to do so, soon began to feel that they were hunters. They became uneasy at home. Everything about them became disagreeable. The house was too warm. The feather bed too soft, and even the good wife was not thought for the time being a proper companion. The mind of the hunter was wholly occupied with the camp and chase. I have often seen them get up early in the morning at this season, walk hastily out and look anxiously to the woods and snuff the autumnal winds with the highest rapture, then return into the house and cast a quick and attentive look at the rifle, which was always suspended to a joist by a couple of buck's horns, or little forks. His hunting dog, understanding the intentions of his master, would wag his tail and by every blandishment in his power express his readiness to accompany him to the woods.

-Joseph Doddridge, from Notes on the Settlement and Indian Wars Of the Western Parts of Virginia and Pennsylvania from 1763 to 1783, inclusive, together with a Review of the State of Society and Manners of the First Settlers of the Western Country

Hard to see in this photo, but had these three young bucks on my camera the other day. These are what? 2.5? They definitely have potential if they make it. And yeah, I have some mowing to do. :)

In a year of abundant rains to the north I fear many of the critters will have wandered up from the brush country to feast upon bounties of akerns

When there was no akens, they ate mesquite leaves, when there was no mesquite, they ate prickly pair, and when there was no pear, they ate sand....

I "need" to buy some new gamecams. What's the latest and greatest for use in a very spotty cell coverage area? Needs to function 2+ months without interaction. Looked at a couple review sites and they all feel a bit off. Looking for recommendations on what you guys have used successfully (or unsuccessfully).

I went with SPYPOINT.

$99 a year gets you 250 pics per month from each camera - I have 6 working so I get 1500 pics a month. Seems absurd I know.

Ive been happy.

To be clear, is it $99 / camera / year? Or, $99x6 / year?  Do they maintain good battery life in your experience?

EDIT: Looks like the Flex-S-Dark would be a solid option. And I see they do carry an extender (but it is not rated very high on performance...maybe because it's omni-directional and I'm guessing folks have difficulty with that).

I had a spypoint and It sucked in the area I was using it. Wouldn’t maintain a cell connection and killed batteries trying to connect. I bought two reveal 3.0 Tacticams and they have been great. I also got the solar panel/lithium battery and have never changed out batteries in over a year. Will probably buy two more within a couple of months when the hunting sales start again.
