Stoops going for it in OT was the dumbest thing I’ve seen in a long time.  0% chance we were getting a TD.

Agreed

That was another level of stupid based on how our offense performed all night. Take the fucking points.

If it was flipped, Sark would have done the same dumb shit.

Chris Kleiman also did that dumb shit against us a couple of years ago.  Most coaches are meatheads.  A smart coach stands out like a sore thumb

not concerned about the long term health or prospects for Sark and the program.

It's a bit as it relates to this year.  We are clearly a rampaging pride of fuck lions on defense, our special teams is likely national title good (not saying best in the nation but a really solid unit that would fit in as a plus with just about any national title team) but our offesne sucks shit through a straw and is, quite frankly, stunningly inept and embarassing.  That doesn't mean this team can't bumblefuck it's way to 9 or 10 wins, but, yeah, it's pretty bleak for the year.

Long term out on Sark? Not a chance. He's gotten us to back to back final 4's, recruiting well, managing well, has shown good offenses in the past, etc.  This year you can say- new QB, decimated (and pretty untalented) RB room, brand new TE's, starting an entire new offensive line (outside of DJ), no game breaking WR and a QB that was supposed to be a force multiplier instead pretty much sucking.  We are young in many places and where we aren't actually young we are inexperienced.  So, thought it was going better but I guess we couldn't overcome it. If it looks like this again next year then I will be VERY concerned about the direction of the program.

Or- put another way- which programs would you trade places with nationally (future looking) with zero reservations?  For me that's Ohio State, Oregon, Georgia, Domers.  Shurg and say maybe yes, maybe no- Alabama.  I'm not changing places with Miami or Tech or aggy or USC or Indiana or PSU or Ole Miss or TN.  Florida if they nail the hire? Maybe.  That's about the program and our resources as much as the head coach- but he's shown he can marshall those resources and do other big picture program stuff well.  It's bizarre that it's his core competency that's held us back the last 3 or 4 years.  I guess he needs his QB. The fact that that doesn't appear to be Arch is troubling- but I'm fine with wait and see for a year before being out.

It would honestly be really impressive if we hold Oklahoma to 14 given we're going to get shut out.

But to be fair, same for this.

Going for it was the right call. They had a chance to functionally end the game by getting a yard in two snaps. You literally cannot get a better deal in football. The play calls though, good lord.

Somewhere out there, some hoarder's got a nice pint of 2015 vintage whole milk in the fridge that aged considerably better than this.

I bet on Arch's shitty performance being an anomoly and first game jitters. It wasn't. When he plays well we can pretty much beat anyone in the country b/c the defense and special teams is really good as I said. Apparently it's not going to be a thing where he plays well often.  Who knew?  Your 7-5 take as a ceiling is still as wildly stuipid for this year as it was in 22 and 23 when you were trotting that nonsense out there. Might we go 7-5? or 5-7?  Sure. But that's not the ceiling.

I came into the year thinking that 9-3 and on the CFB bubble was probably the floor for the team but that feels more like the ceiling now.

It’s laughably wrong how bad you have floor and ceiling confused. Laughably.
this team would ho 9-3 with case McCoy. At worst. Arch isn’t case McCoy.

You sure if I had the ability to search I wouldn't see 7-5 ceiling elsehwere in other threads from you on this? I would say that with about 95% certainty I've seen you say that multiple times, but if it wasn't you my appologies.

I've said I think we're going 7-5 or 8-4 at this point, which would be 2-3 or 3-2 down the stretch with three games against ranked opponents and one of the two unranked on the road. I don't think that's a flaming hot take with what this team has put out there; but no I haven't said the ceiling absolutely tops out at 7-5. Of course this team could beat MSU and Arkansas, as well as Vandy and/or A&M at home if the passable offensive side shows up, even if I think it's unlikely we get all four.

The only game I would just wave the white flag on right now is Georgia. This offense isn't going on the road to Athens and playing winning football.

You also basically guarantee a loss if you don’t get it, by removing Texas’s need to gain a single yard on offense.  And you don’t even guarantee a win if you get it.  I wouldn’t ever like those odds. Kick it, expect 3 the other way, and see what 2OT deals you as the second team on offense.

That would be a shock if they played well offensively at Georgia. Georgia's defense obviously has shown this year it can be had with decent offense, but yeah I expect us to lose a 2022 TCU type game to them.  It also doesn't help that they might be the only special teams on our schedule I'd definitely take over ours.  And, they are a little better on offense than I expected them to be. I doubt they score much on us unless we just actively fuck our defense over (which- we might) but it's likely they will do enough to get by on us if not break us- ala the SEC title game.

7-5 as proposed record isn't a hot take. Certainty that it's the ceiling for this team is dumb (many many have said that) b/c as you said we should go 2-3 or 3-2 and anyone who doesn't think we can beat aggy in austin to ruin their season doesn't understand the cosmic futility of aggy. I'm expecting to win that game but that's 6 weeks out- shit can change.

Agreed. With how inept we'd been on offense.  Also- I was in favor of kicking on 1st down. When Mac 2 had phil dawson that was his plan in OT if the kick was to win.

Eh. We weren't a serious threat to score the TD, especially under the pressure of having to do so. I'd take my chances at winning the game with 1 yard in 2 plays.

Do agree with this. Or if you're going to snap the ball at all there they need to be a couple simple inside runs. If you gain 1 yard in 2 plays then whatever. Kick on third to giveyour chance to recover a botched snap. Don't get cute.
