With the 9-game SEC schedule we’re goin to play at least two non conference games each year against ULM/UTEP/UTSA, etc. If we pussy out on playing at least one challenging OOC game each year then add one to the dogshit lineup. I hope we don’t do the latter, but it’s a possibility.

As a result, we’re guaranteed at least two games in inferno that is Austin in September and maybe three. Since we’re playing these shit tea,an anyway, why not have one of those September weekends at least be a conference game which would be away every other year? Additionally is it not a bad idea to have what’s effectively a bye week right before what should be the big push every year?

I get not playing D-2 schools, but why do so many people bitch about SEC schools pushing one of their dogshit games to November instead of September? End of the day you play the same schedule, you’re just spreading out the cupcakes…

Of course it’s a good idea to put a get healthy game in November, just like it’s a good idea to play a cupcake week 1

Pride?

This November cupcake bullshit should be going away, starting next year with the 9-game SEC schedule. Sankey is encouraging league members to beef up their OOC scheduling, too.

We play our shit teams in September like you should.

But why? It’s not like we’re adding a shit team to the schedule, we’re just playing them right before rivalry week and the playoffs. Why is that bad?

Honestly, if we beat aggy to go 9-3 and get left out of the playoff, the message to all of college football is don't ever schedule a big OOC game at any time.  If we'd played a scrub in week 1 instead of @ Ohio State, we'd have gotten in easily.

No, the message is don’t lose to a team that fires their coach two weeks AFTER they beat you…

You seem to be too stupid to understand the conversation. Best to sit this one out.

If playing a marquee match up week one - which by definition means you could lose - means you can’t have one conference slip up to a team you should beat then your basically saying the loss to said marquee match up matters.

so don’t schedule it.

but the real problem is Texas has looked like dog shit in 8 out of 11 games and only looked good against OU, Arkansas and Vanderbilt.

No one is going to play these games in November going forward. No one wants those games when it’s time to figure out who is good.

Do you think everyone in the SEC is going to stop doing it? I can’t think of one example of when this practice hurt someone…

C'mon, man

The message is don't lose to UGA by 25 in November. The OSU loss doesn't hurt us nearly as badly.

You're missing the point.

This is about scheduling big OOC games or cupcake OOC games.

Our exact situation, if we beat aggy, is an example of how the huge game against Ohio State can only hurt us.  Teams absolutely will stop scheduling those games.

The rest of the schedule is non-negotiable.  They're conference games.  Yeah, win them.  Obviously.  But in this new world, if a 9-3 Texas team with a better SOS than every single 10-2 team gets left out, then no one should schedule big OOC games.  It's all risk and no reward.

Maybe, but we've been scheduling one marquee P5/4 opponent OOC every year, and that ain't changing under CDC.

Did it hurt us this year? Sure, but now we're crying over spilled milk. It's helped us in the past, too.

LSU, in particular, seems to be regretting certain scheduling decisions right now

Christ fuck on a goddam crutch this fucking isn’t about fucking scheduling fucking good or shitty fucking teams OOC, it’s fucking about when you fucking play the fucking shitty teams you’re going to fucking schedule any fucking way.

UT needs to schedule more bottom-feeding P4 teams instead of OSU and Michigan is what I've gleaned from this rant.

This. Our schedule is fairly similar to Ole Miss with one glaring difference. We played Ohio State and they played Washington State. We can keep scheduling big time OOC games, but don't be surprised when we miss the playoffs with 3 losses. The committee has a tough time getting over the WIN-LOSS column and the old way of comparing teams. Scheduling disparity is a problem in college football and won't be fixed anytime soon.

And we're telling your dumb ass that everyone is switching to playing bad teams in September going forward. SEC teams with non-SEC rivals will play an SEC opponent in September. The November cupcake is going away. Take a look here and you will see most of the OOC games are in September now.

https://fbschedules.com/sec-football-schedule/

We should never be afraid to play big name OOC games. Georgia doesn't. Bama doesn't. OU doesn't. Do you not remember beating Ohio State in 2005 being a launching point for a championship run? If we hadn't gotten blown out by Georgia, the Ohio State game would be saving our ass as far as a playoff berth. Getting blown out by Georgia and losing to shit ass Florida is the issue, not fucking Ohio State.

What does any of that have to do with September vs November, jerkoff?

Lulz

I will admit I fucking hate it. Today’s slate of games was fucking awful. But if all of our conference peers do it, we’re fools to put our scrub games back to back to back early in the season, especially after playing the best team in the country week 1. Our schedule this year was a great example of what not to do. And how the fuck were our worst performances after byes?

Name the teams in the SEC that don’t play one of their shit games in November. You say ‘everybody’s doing it’, the link you posted is to this weekends games, which furthers the point…

And they’ve only lost one game vs three. that’s kind of a big difference.
