Ooops.

A massive tranche of over 2 million documents found in a public database sheds light on Russia’s expansion and modernization of its highly sensitive nuclear weapons complex, the Danish investigative outlet Danwatch and Germany’s Der Spiegel reported Wednesday.

The files include detailed blueprints of the Strategic Missile Forces bases near the Orenburg region town of Yasny. The two bases are equipped with the Avangard hypersonic glide vehicle, one of Russia’s most advanced nuclear delivery systems.

This is hilarious. Someone has likely been sitting on this for a while and, for whatever reason, decided now was a good time to release it.

It's like a big "Fuck You" middle finger to Putin.

My guess is that it's the current US regime wanting to piss of Putin for not playing along.

Measuring distance on Google Maps, that base is 1,164 miles from the closest piece of Ukrainian dirt, far to the south. That is some seriously impressive range.

Edit: Of course, the Ukrainians may have also been able to sneak over and launch drones from a closer point, I suppose.

One thing that should give everyone pause: if you asked Western military’s planners to come up with a plan to eliminate this much of Russia’s strategic aviation, they’d likely tell you all the ways would seriously risk triggering a near immediate nuclear response.

That is why I said Putin is going to be PISSED. Screw the money and assets. This is at his pride. FSB is going to be on a rampage. The Air Force is going to be told retaliate.

BBC reporting. Ukrainians claiming more than 3 Bears were hit.

Ukraine claims to have hit more than 40 Russian bombers, in what appears to be one of the most audacious attacks so far on Russian aviation.

According to a statement from Ukraine’s security service, the SBU, “enemy strategic bombers are burning en masse in Russia”.

It says Ukraine is conducting “a large scale special operation aimed at destroying enemy bomber aircraft.” It says more than 40 aircraft have been hit.

It has released dramatic video which it says shows a drone attack at the Belaya airbase in Irkutsk oblast, in Siberia. Bombers are under attack, with explosions visible and smoke rising.

Reports suggest other aircraft have been attacked at the Olenya airbase, near Murmansk. Russian media is reporting the attack in Murmansk but says air defences are working. The attack in Irkutsk is also being reported.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian authorities say that 472 drones and seven ballistic and cruise missiles were involved in last night’s wave of attacks on Ukraine. This would appear to be one largest single Russian drone attacks so far. Ukraine says it neutralised 385 aerial targets.

Yeah this is way more impactful than the Moskva fucking off to be a submarine.  Huge, coordinated tactical assault which is crippling an asset Russia can’t produce anymore.  Daddy Xi going to sell them new planes for a lot of money soon.

It is for sure. I do not think China will. They want theirs and a weakened Russia is not that bad for them.

Saw this and kept expecting the truck to open up and a bunch of drones fly out knocking those fuckers off the truck.

Unblurred photo of the containers - in this one it looks like the roof of the building may have been rigged to open to enable the drones to fly out, and I saw a report that was among the preparations.

Can someone put this in context for me. How many total numbers do they have.

If Wiki is to be believed, and if Ukraine took out 40.  Woof.  Noice.

pretty impressive.

even if its only a few bombers, its gonna cause Russia to have to take a lot of soldiers off the front line to protect their airbases all over the country.

Or, just like folks suggested about air defense, it won’t… and Ukraine will be able to continue with such operations.

Regardless, it’s a huge win… waking up to this is like adult Christmas morning. Fuck ‘em!

A total of 40 aircraft are known to have been destroyed – A-50s, Tu-95s and Tu-22M3s.

TU-95 - estimated cost $100,000,000 each for the modernized versions

stimated 60 are in service, er, were in service

A-50 estimated to be 8 in service, cost $300,000,000

A-50 is the AWACs copycat

TU-22 bomber, estimated 60 in service, estimated cost $300,000,000

Holy crap, that is roughly $8,000,000,000 in planes

128 planes and 40 DESTROYED. This does not include the others that have been destroyed already, or maybe it does. psyops

HUGE MASSIVE blow to moscovian air force

The current commander-in-chief of the moscovian Aerospace Forces, which includes the moscovian Air Force, is Colonel General Viktor Afzalov. He assumed the role on October 20, 2023, succeeding General Sergey Surovikin.   He will probably be visiting a hospital with stairs and windows very soon.

To do what? Lay on top of the planes to act as reactive armor?

Not trying to downplay how massive and awesome this may be, but where are you getting confirmation of 40 aircraft destroyed? I saw the reports saying 41 were targeted, but I’ve only seen a handful severely damaged/destroyed. Is “41 targeted” just a bad translation (and actually means “hit”)?

not sure why russia just doesn't empty the missile cupboards on ukraine ?

not like putin cares about civilians casualties. make them sign a 'peace treaty'. not even sure why putin wants that land. it's worthless and they can never rebuild it. he'll have to cut a deal with china to rebuild and repopulate

New Voice of Ukraine report:

Quote

Later, NV’s sources in the intelligence services confirmed that Ukraine’s SBU Security Service had launched a large-scale operation targeting Russian bombers behind the front lines. The SBU’s drones struck more than 40 aircraft used in nightly attacks on Ukrainian cities. According to the sources, among the damaged aircraft were A-50, Tu-95, and Tu-22M3 models.

Impressive they trusted to tell us.  More impressive we (apparently) gave the go-ahead.

There's supposed to be peace talks tomorrow so they probably felt compelled to reveal the plans in an opaque manner, at least.
