Game Week Thread 2025 game week 3: UTEP @ Texas
perfectchaos007 replied to Wulaw Horn's topic in Football
Sark will likely speak highly about Scotty Walden and the energy he brings to his program, and how this is a "much improved" UTEP program compared to years past. He will also praise their 5 star QB Malachi Nelson for being a spark plug to the UTEP offense. Unfortunately, Sark will likely will not mention C-USA All-Name team Tight End from UTEP Cash Cheeks. -
we don’t want you to bench him. we want you to start him even harder now.

we’ve got three straight days of bb coming up, and i am very interested in seeing how they edit all of this.

Texans Drop Opener in Familiar, Disappointing Fashion
The Houston Texans lost to the Los Angeles Rams 14-9. Here are 11 observations from the disappointing opener. The Texans picked up where they left off. The offense was inefficient. The blocking stunk. The quarterback was too gunshy. The penalties mounted. The defense was forced to be perfect, and they weren’t. All the issues that led to the disappointments of last season reared their ugly heads. Nick Caley’s offense showed no noticeable differences from Bobby Slowik’s offense. The Texans made just a couple of changes to the offensive staff in the offseason, and the offense looked much the same. It was choppy, lacked rhythm, and was inefficient for most of the day. The moment they stepped into the red zone, they went backward. There were two illegal shift penalties, one coming late in the game when they tried to catch the Rams off guard. They scored no touchdowns. An entire offseason produced ZERO touchdowns in the first game of the season. That’s wholly and totally unacceptable. C.J. Stroud looked essentially the same as last year. Stroud held onto the ball too long, too often. He drifted into pressure. He didn’t rip it when guys were there. The control he was afforded at the line of scrimmage made no difference in the offense’s operation. Stroud said he knows he misidentified a couple of plays. They still didn’t get into plays fast enough, multiple times taking the play clock down further than comfortable. Stroud also tossed the ball up, hoping for someone to make a play a couple of times. One of them ended up being an interception. There needs to be improvement here. He did use his legs exceptionally well, which was one of the lone bright spots of the offense. The defense was good enough to deserve a win. There are things to nitpick, but they held the Rams to 14 points. That’s a good enough performance. The nitpicking will come later. The new Texans offensive line played like last year’s offensive line. Cam Robinson started at left tackle, Laken Tomlinson was the left guard, Jake Andrews was the center, Tytus Howard was the right guard, and rookie Aireontae Ersery was at right tackle. This shuffle came about due to Ed Ingram’s injury. The line allowed a couple of sacks in the first half. The pressure affected plenty. It wasn’t any better than last year. There were still unaccounted-for blitzers. There were still moments when they couldn’t move the line of scrimmage. New faces, but the same results. Rookie tackle Aireontae Ersery wasn’t good. He frequently allowed pressure. There were moments where he flat-out whiffed on blocks in both the run game and the pass game. He has a little excuse, though. He was shifted from left tackle, where he had practiced for about a month, to right tackle because Ed Ingram couldn’t play. Still, he needs to put his hands on guys. Too many times he came up empty. Cam Robinson, who replaced him at left tackle, also wasn’t good. Nobody was good. The line was bad. No matter the configuration, the line was bad. Nico Collins has to get the ball more. There should never be a game where a player like Collins, against a defense that has no standouts in the secondary, only has three catches for 25 yards. This is one of the most dynamic wideouts in football. Get him the damn ball. The Rams somehow found a way to consistently get the ball to their two star wideouts against what many believe to be an excellent secondary. There is no excuse that is acceptable for why Collins didn’t have a bigger day. The little things were a problem. This is not a team that can give away yards, and yet, they made a multitude of mistakes. It put them behind the sticks too much. The defense made some mistakes too, but thankfully corrected their own mistake on a drive where they had two lack of focus penalties. It felt like an undisciplined team. The third-string running back fumbling the football when you’re trying to drive in and take the lead isn’t ideal. Nick Chubb couldn’t be on the field after putting the offense on his back for a lot of that drive. Just not tight enough on the details during this one. Derek Stingley Jr. didn’t have a good day. He looked to get hurt early in the game, but he came back in. Davante Adams might not have lost a rep to Stingley all day. The veteran wideout had multiple excellent plays against Stingley at key moments. Every catch from Adams went for a first down. Cornerbacks aren’t expected to be perfect, but they have to win more than Stingley did in this one. The defense had a hard time accounting for Puka Nacua. Nacua finished the day with 10 catches for 130 yards. He got open from all over the field. He finished the day abusing Jalen Pitre in coverage, as most do, and caught the game-sealing pass from Matt Stafford. This was even though he was checked for a concussion and bleeding from his head after a hit early in the game. The Rams constantly got him open against a variety of Texans defenders. The Texans have to hope this is a one-off and not the standard for their season. Hope, however, is not a strategy. The offensive line is lightly talented. The offense didn’t look ready for its debut. The quarterback still isn’t confident under center. There’s not much to take from this offensive performance overall. They cobbled together a few field goals; that’s it. The defense has a few things to clean up, but they at least have a chance to live up to their potential. The offense looked like they lived up to their very low potential in this one. Additional Observations Nick Chubb was one of their best offensive players. When he got rolling, he barrelled over defenders. Unfortunately, the push was inconsistent from the line. Blake Fisher clearly is unplayable right now. When he got in the game, he got a 15-yard penalty. The Texans did gymnastics to keep Fisher off the field, but an injury forced him out there. Juice Scruggs is also unplayable because instead of just inserting him into the lineup when Ed Ingram couldn’t play, they shuffled the whole way they set up the line. That’s awful. Nick Caserio has whiffed on offensive line draft picks. Jake Andrews spent most of the preseason as the first center, and he got carted off in this one. Jarrett Patterson replaced him. Getting carted off kind of feels like Patterson is the starting center for a while, unless Andrews was really lucky. Henry To’oTo’o had some nice moments at linebacker. Dalton Schultz had a little more life to his game in this one. The punt coverage looked pretty good. The Texans have a good field goal kicker. Next up is the home opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday NightFootball.
Just checked this thread for the first time in awhile and I figured I'd respond to this as I'm the one that ended up getting Skenes in that trade. I will stick up for myself when it comes to someone calling it collusion and when the term cheating gets thrown around. The only person I've ever had any real correspondence with about trades is Tokamak. I don't even know who runs the majority of the teams in this league. And the funny thing is that I didn't even propose that trade (and believe me, I proposed a lot of them). It was proposed to me (see the screenshot). I didn't realize until just now checking this thread that people were upset about it, so I'll go ahead and sit Skenes out the rest of the year. In my mind, whoever proposed the trade was hard up for closers and chasing saves and Skenes only had ~8 starts left. But, you'd have to ask them to know for sure what the motive was behind it.

Alcaraz is redefining the men’s game. Sinner is as well and they’ll alternate winning a whole bunch of slams and lesser tournaments. Hard to believe I sat out there at Arthur Ashe three years ago until the late hours watching his round of 16 match against 2014 Champion Marin Cilic. That he is so dominant at age 22 is just ridiculous. He and Sinner have the chance to rewrite the record books with how far ahead they are of anyone else.

1000 +14 TD vs his fumbles is a good debate to have and I still think Gibson can do as well as he did learning to protect the ball throughout the season, still my main argument is that he was actually kinda elite at catching passes (timestamped)

For sure. That's something I realized as I got older and saw all these references to movies that came out well before I was old enough to watch them, but may have been spurned a bit by the time I reached that age because they didn't have the special effects that I grew up to expect. Once I was old enough to appreciate the stories of a lot of these movies while realizing that the special effects were secondary to the story I went back and started watching them. But by that point I was old enough for other pursuits and then that transitioned into raising a family, so while ive gone back and watched many of these films, I didn't get the benefit of watching them several times over in my adolescence.

not a good election day for milei

Good visual of what we have left. I hear Corey is gaining power by the second from the crystals they have placed around his oxygen chamber. We just need to get into the dance.

The 2024 Texas defense allowed 20 points in a game 2 times in the regular season, and it's not farfetched to say this defense could be better. Finishing 10-2 or 11-1 does not require Arch Manning to play significantly better. It will require fewer penalties and some more explosive plays in the run game. I was encouraged by 4.8+ ypc against Ohio State. I was less encouraged by what we did without Wisner against SJST. Against UTEP it needs to be more like 6.5+ ypc.
-
Would be nice to see: - A clean game with far fewer penalties - Arch consistently hitting his crossing routes and not firing the ball into the ground with poor mechanics - A 3rd-down conversion rate that isn't horrific I consider these realistic asks for a team with CFP aspirations, but I'm sure the usual suspects will show up next week to castigate me for having unreasonable expectations, demanding too much from Arch and Sark, etc. etc. when these asks aren't met. As is tradition.

They're a "fucking problem"? Really? They look fine. I expect Texas to beat them again this season. Half of this site is sleeping on this Texas team. If I had to put money on anyone in for a "shock" its you fucking dweebs. -
It worked, so they get to be geniuses, but, if your margin for error for running your kick team out there perfectly, lining up, and having the kicker set up without rushing is less than 2 seconds, then the odds of something slowing you down slightly is much greater than Baltimore getting into field goal range with 20 seconds and no timeouts. But ballsy as fuck to trust your guys enough to execute when a second and half later and you've committed one of the biggest completely self-inflicted blunders in recent memory.
