SIAP but this is just one piece of the puzzle in this unfathomable weather tragedy. From The NY Times: In an interview, Rob Kelly, the Kerr County judge and its most senior elected official, said the county did not have a warning system because such systems are expensive, and local residents are resistant to new spending. “Taxpayers won’t pay for it,” Mr. Kelly said. Asked if people might reconsider in light of the catastrophe, he said, “I don’t know.” —————————— Kelly is the individual who early on Friday said all Mystic campers were accounted for.

I think the reality is we've all depended on and trusted in a governmental and societal infrastructure that is quickly dissipating, even with the technological advancements through the years. We're gonna have to make more decisions on our own.

Here comes the rain.
-
Hey, I'm just glad Powers and Dodds didn't move us to the Pac-12 back in the day.
-
How are you still alive?
-
Because we had a weather thread, the weather event is over and now we have morphed this into a girls are dead thread. They aren’t the same.
-
I know a few. Like platypus, they do exist.
-
Gonna be interesting for sure. I’m all in favor of chaos.
-
Those teams that went to slicks pre-race screwed up. All the early yellows take away any advantage before more rain moves in.
-
Happened in yesterday and picked up some Cherry Garcia and the fancy mint chocolate chip gelato

I remain steadfast in my view that if I knew there were the remnants of a tropical system over the hill country and a possible flood event likely while casually observing from fucking Mexico, then the camp is 100% responsible. that said, our fucking state government is insulting good honest people who have been hoodwinked by them with their self fellating, sitting around in disaster uniforms and Boy Scout looking - be prepared shirts, and day of prayers nonsense. We are running billions in surpluses and we have a known fatality risk - one of the highest in the nation - in the flash flood prone hill country. This is exactly the kinds of problems state governments and legislatures are supposed to focus on and solve for. How we don’t have a robust and redundant warning system in place is beyond me. but hey at least the resident tranny is in Mexico scouting out exile communities she may be forced to flee too. at least that’s a win amirite?

In one of the articles that someone posted yesterday, there was a comment that the camp had become like a whirlpool of water. With that creek flowing into the river at the campsite, you can easily see how it could become a raging, swirling torrent right there.

Can't remember where I heard this, but I heard him described as "Adele for the forklift-certified."

What can I bring you? Heading to HEB. Overnight in a safe place near, coming into Kerrville in the AM. I will drop off water at your location and if you have any other requests let me know. DM is best.

One would think that. Around this time last year, I made the permanent move away from Austin, where I’d lived for 28 years, to a rural area. My long-dormant Facebook account has become a lifeline for getting information about what’s happening around town. There are no local TV stations. We do have a handful of local radio stations BUT they're mostly canned iHeartMedia stations that pipe in shitty country or classic rock with a local person only coming on air in the morning or at noon to talk about the happenings at the dry feed store or that someone's dog got loose. The local newspaper? Fuhgeddaboudit. Out here, FB really is treated like some combination of Next Door/Reddit/Xitter/eBay all rolled into one with a few groups people have put together to rant and rave about shit or rumor monger. Still, everyone also turns to it for crises. It's not an exaggeration to say that the site plays a critical role in official city and county communications, which is kinda fucked up. That's why the emergency cellphone system that the state has, or some sort of alarm system, would've been the best way to warn people. Well, that or having one of those NOAA radios out at the camps.

Shit. A big Canadian goose or a swan can send you to the hospital. Wing force of a baseball bat swung at full force. I concur. Especially when they hunt in packs. Get o e on your back. Game over.
