The Astros brought Satchel Paige to test pitching conditions, specifically to see how breaking balls would behave in the new indoor, air-conditioned environment. This event took place on February 7, 1965, about two months before the Astrodome’s official opening on April 9, 1965. Paige’s assessment was glowing. He called the Astrodome a “pitcher’s paradise,” noting that the windless conditions allowed for greater control and movement on sensitive pitches. In an April 1965 interview with Frank Godsoe of the Amarillo Daily News, Paige said, “I’ve pitched in more places than any other man, living or dead… But there’s no place to pitch like the Astrodome stadium in Houston… Man, that place is something else!” He believed the controlled environment could have extended his career by a decade if it had existed earlier, as it eliminated variables like wind and weather that often disrupted a pitcher’s rhythm.

My mom said the director of Heart of the Hills is gone. Little sister went there for a few years. I'm guessing if the director at Mystic isn't they are wishing they were.

The Apple News story linked a few pages back said over three trillion gallons (I think) of rain came down.

Just cracked 50% but yeah, the amount needed to fill the top 10 feet is a hell of a lot more than is needed to fill the first 10 feet.

My sister lives just down river from Sattler across from River Road. She took this video from the back porch after the big dump of rain this morning. All of this is from that rain, none from the Kerrville flood. Crazy... IMG_7530.mov

Holy shit. I didn't think you could come up with a worse scenario than multiple cabins with elementary age girls washing away in a flood but this might actually be worse. Jesus.

The reality is NOTHING is going to move the needle. It doesn't matter how many children are lost. That is not CR, that is reality. Period.

didn’t know you were such a prude.

He's a douchebag with an affected announcing style and agonizingly slow cadence for effect. On DTS he's the leader of the false narratives that show thrives on, always villainizing one driver or making a hero of another, using imagined conflicts or other fabricated events as the fuel for the narrative. DTS is mostly fiction with a pretty F1 backdrop.

Well, you could.

My friend Vicki, who used to run the main local aid org (an offshoot of Wimberley UMC) for the Wimberley floods and who now works for FEMA, sent me this link: https://www.shelbygiving.com/app/giving/kfumc

i'm fine trading him, i just don't want to give him away for nothing. i'm fine dragging this into the season if necessary. he's curenttly an 8th-9th man, not anyone who is going to be significantly relied upon. his being upset with his role is not going to disrupt team chemistry or anything like that.

Let’s try to keep this less cloak room. I just know in this particular instance we were, though. it’s only highlighted by the loss of life by children. Sadly that hasn’t moved the needle on true and effective change in the past. I’m so emotionally depleted right now.
