The authoritarian playbook usually works early as everybody sits there worrying, "Well if I push back on XYZ they are going to 'come after me'". Then eventually, as this admin is starting to prove, they're gonna come after you anyway...so what's the point of not pushing back? That's when things start to roll.
-
Reminds me of the year, I think 2010, when Mack said that we need three defensive scores each game in order to be competitive.
-
Lower PFF grades by those two compared to OSU game right? Hope this was due to them trying out stuff out of the comfort zone they wanted to work on. Townsends highlights are VERY encouraging. Dude blocks mean. Involved in lots of motion too.
-
What do you mean? I was made to understand he's a huuuuge tennis guy.

Which is why we are beyond saving. It would be one thing if (and bad enough) if 40+ percent of Americans approved of idiocy, incompetence, and moronity. But layer on the fucking performative cruelty and evil, and they also approve THAT. No country comes back from that.
-
Huh? Ohio State gained 203 yards and scored 14 points. San Jose State gained 273 yards and scored 7 points. Exactly how much stingier does this defense need to be?

Game Week Thread 2025 game week 3: UTEP @ Texas
Wulaw Horn replied to Wulaw Horn's topic in Football
I mean- did I say Alabama looked like pressed asshole on a mirror before they won back to back titles? No. I started calling them Alabraska 2 seconds before we made that happen. Hope I'm wrong on this. If your boy Parker is as good as you keep telling everyone he is then we will probably be ok. I, unlike you, am suspicous of white WR's not named Shipley and need to see more of that kind of dynamism from #13 before I think our offense is going to be able to overcome a mediocre OL, backs that run for only what's blocked with no dynamism, other WR that don't separate and drop balls that hit them in the hand and a QB who spent large portions of the first 2 weeks skipping rocks. Oh- and penalties and dumb 4th down calls (not going but what we choose to do when we go for it). -
Game Week Thread 2025 game week 3: UTEP @ Texas

UTEP sacked Utah State 6 times and UT Martin 4 times. They were top 20 nationally in sacks last year. From what limited stuff I've seen, they like to bring a lot of blitzes and pressures. It should hopefully be another game with some explosive plays down the field. -
I heard yesterday that his approval rating is at 43%. That is just fucking incredible to me. Like if you were in a large room with 100 random people, almost half would tell you that they like what's happening right now in this country.
-
Any pass play that loses 5 yard needs to be shit canned and never to be seen again. Nothing kills a drive like throwing a pass 20 yards to loose 5 yards on 1st down. Most of Sarks scripted plays to start the game are dog shit.

I agree with all this, but they are running some creative shit on offense to get Mateer free and to keep the defense off balance. They were able to break Burks loose a bunch and involve their TE. That throw from their own endzone was fucking ridiculous. You can say what you want about Burnt Vegetables, but that fucker can run a defense and make life difficult on a young QB. And it's the RRS, the most unpredictable game in college football. Anybody that is EVER overconfident about the TX/OU game doesn't understand what that game is about. My eyes have seen way too much fuckery in that stadium to be confident about anything other than the lines to get in being a giant clusterfuck, the longest concession lines in history and the bathrooms smelling like raw sewage. I will also repeat what I said upthread.... I think they are going to struggle some at Temple this week. Early start in Philly against a Temple team with a new really good coach and a bunch of transfers and an experienced QB sandwiched before a big home game against Auburn with the return of Jackson Arnold. This is a classic let down game after everybody pats them on the back and tells them how great they are for beating an impotent Michigan all week. -
The pushback to this administration is growing daily.
-
Arch is hitting an excellent 50% on his deep balls. Hard to find issues with that. The issue is finding something that is efficient and easily replicated. Texas is much more vertical in the passing this year, which will tend to be more boom or bust The OL has some real holes currently. Stroh: 47.6 PFF grade vs SJSU and 44.9 vs OSU baker: 59.1 vs SJSU, 41.0 vs OSU That is going to make doing anything consistently an issue
-
The differences between what Arch does well and what Ewers did well are pretty hilarious. Like if we could combine them, we would have, well, I guess we'd have something between Joe Burrow and Vince Young. I'm not sure how Manning can be so uncomfortable with short, easy throws, but he needs to get comfortable with them. We can't be in 3rd and 10 half of the time.
-
I increasingly believe that we were forecast as a juggernaut a year early because of our QB's last name. Sportswriters are generally pretty dumb. Somehow, they convinced themselves and each other that all the experience of prior Mannings was already loaded into Arch. Nope. He actually has to acquire his own experience. I expected more out of him right out of the gate. That means idiots who write sports persuaded me to join them in the idiot club. Shame on me. It is a lot to expect a first year QB to lead a team to a championship. Mistakes kill those aspirations. It's absurd to expect Manning to play like a veteran who has seen the results of a lot of bad decisions and knows to avoid them. He won't lead us to a championship this year. It will be the defense leading the way if we are to have a chance, IMHO. If the defense keeps us in the playoff picture, Manning may have matured enough by the end of the season to assert himself as a seasoned player. I'm taking it game by game from here with no expectations.

It might be too much to ask but Temple might have a legit coach with Keeler. Two blowouts so far and they get OU at home. Would be a shame if OU were to struggle. -

Or wait until say November or December when temps are a wee bit cool and just take out large parts of the Russian power grid. No way they have the air defenses to protect their grid around Moscow and St. Petersburg. -
