Ok, but counterpoint: the "and paying the price" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. But even with that lift, it's wrong. If you compare the similarly priced products--a First Class seat today vs. a Coach seat in 1970--the flyer today is getting a waaaaaaay better product. It's a product that the flyer in 1970 would only dream of. And for a small fraction of the price of a Coach seat in 1970, the passenger flying in Economy today is getting a product that is in some ways worse. But in some other ways it's better. As you point out, the Coach seat in 1970 was bigger.* There was more leg room. You sometimes got a meal and a drink.** But let's be real honest about that meal. It was bad. It was actually often borderline inedible. But it was also your only choice. Because back in 1970, airports didn't have restaurants that offered to-go meals in them. In a standard 1970 airport, you had one bar and one restaurant, both of which were places that were owned by the best friend of the local city councilman. They were by-and-large pretty terrible. Ok--the one in Albuquerque offered a damned good breakfast taco. But that was an exception. But the idea of grabbing something from Campisi's or Chik-fil-a or Whataburger before your flight and eating it on the plane? It was unheard of. You were going to get the equivalent of a Stouffer's tv dinner that was either badly overcooked or badly undercooked (often both), and that was it. Your entertainment was going to be a 13-inch television screen mounted in the ceiling of the cabin five rows in front of you. It would show one movie. That's it. You've already seen that movie? You don't like that genre? Too fucking bad--read your goddamned Time magazine and shut up. Now you get wifi (which airlines are starting to offer for free). Or you bring your iPad with you with the movies you've already downloaded. In 1970, you couldn't have dreamed of having those entertainment options in your home, much less in an airplane. I get it, brother--I'm old, too. I find myself prone to nostalgia. But I do still have a decent memory. And I'm going to tell you that the Golden Age of Commercial Aviation wasn't that great.*** *The Coach seat in 1970 was wider solely as a function of the aircraft used. The Lockheed Electra and other propeller-driven aircraft were still widely in use on domestic short- and medium-haul flights. And those planes had a wider fuselage, which allowed for wider seats. But if given the choice between flying on a Lockheed Electra and a 737-200, you'd never choose the former. The 737 family has always had a 3-3 seating configuaration in coach. And from 1967 to today, the 737 has always had the same width: 12' 4". So when you're comparing similar aircraft types, the seat width is exactly the same as it was in 1970. ** The free bottle of alcohol was a short-term promotion offered by Southwest in 1973, but it has become part of the airline's founding mythology. Southwest was facing a cash-crunch in 1973 (only its third year in operation). In an effort to drive Southwest out of business, Braniff started a fare sale and offered $13 fares between DAL, HOU, and SAT. That was half the standard fare on Southwest. In response, Southwest also offered a $13 fare. But it kept its standard $26 fare and offered a free fifth of Chivas, Jack Daniels, or Smirnoff with it. The idea was that any business traveler on an expense account would pay the higher fare and get the free booze. But one important note on this--you observe that this was pre-deregulation. But regulation only applied on interstate routes. The intra-Texas route was always deregulated. That's how Braniff could start a fare sale in the first place. So the entire story could only take place in a deregulated environment. *** Ok--there was one aspect of it that was fucking great, and you're omitting it entirely. The Stewardesses. They were hot. Airlines could still get away with hiring only young hot women who met a weight restriction. And because of the societal whatevers back then, they were almost (1) uniformly unmarried, and (2) interested in being married to a guy who could afford to fly. As a counterpoint to that, I've got nothing.

Thanks, but I would never pay someone to do it anyway. It was a small summer job that one year when I was grinding so hard, and I honestly could have made some really good money had I started a protest business. The real secret is that you don't have to grind hard every year, because of the 10% limit. Just grind hard every other year, keep your eye on the ball, and be ready to move forward to the next step after meeting the old men. I never tried to go further than the old men, but I found the procedures when I did my research. -

Who’s going to steamroller DC and make that happen? Because Germany didn’t set up the Nuremberg trials on its own.

it’s not like they’re true freshmen or guys we have to force into starting roles. I’d be interested to see a snap count breakdown of the starting 5. I think only Baker is the youngest and has fewest snaps. -
Pedro Pascal was supposed to play the Brolin role and dropped out. I think that's a good thing for this movie. I like Pedro but Brolin was so great in this.

CJ Vogel - recalculating expectations for CJ Baxter Posted 2 hours ago Following a busy weekend in Austin, where the first fall camp scrimmage drew significant attention, one of the most notable developments has been the return and involvement of running back CJ Baxter. The third-year back was a full participant in the scrimmage and, according to multiple accounts, exceeded expectations with both his performance and usage. While Texas implemented a quick whistle in certain situations, one of the standout moments — already well-documented here at OTF — was Baxter’s goal-line touchdown run, an area that has been a persistent challenge for the Longhorn offense in recent seasons. Perhaps most encouraging was the fact that Baxter was practicing live, without a green non-contact jersey, and ran with a high level of competitiveness. Baxter showed no signs of physical limitation during the first live-action period of camp. In the weeks leading up to this point, expectations for his early season workload had been tempered. However, after several conversations over the weekend, it now appears realistic to envision Baxter receiving 8–12 carries in the season opener at Columbus. This is an encouraging sign not only for the Texas offense but also a credit to Baxter’s commitment to his recovery and rehabilitation process. At this stage, I am more confident than at any point this offseason that Baxter will play a meaningful role in week one against Ohio State. If the current trajectory continues, Texas fans should expect to see him on the field when the season kicks off in 20 days. -

Went back and re read scipios book on the oline this morning. I get the hand wringing about the transition to new players, but it doesn’t seem like these guys are complete scrubs. They aren’t the 93 Cowboys but they also don’t seem like Charlie Strong’s group either. A little time to gel might be warranted, like between Aug 31 and Oct 3. Columbus might be a little dicey but I don’t see any reason these guys can’t become good. Convince me I’m wrong if you think so. -

I am hoping you agree with me that the "value only known at the time of property conveyance" should be the appraised value because of the calendar wrt when appraisals are figured. In my case, example: if I buy a property for 190k and close on February 25, imo that should be the appraised value, because that is about the time appraisals are figured out. Am I about correct there? Maybe from then to the end of March? The lady on the phone did not have the expertise or experience to know exactly how they come up with an appraisal, so I am hoping to find some information so specific I can remove all doubt that the property should be appraised under 200k. Once I get the magical under 200k appraisal, the wife will be 64 years old at that time. Once we file the homestead exemption correctly after closing, we would just need to wait until her October birthday to file for the 65+ exemption and at the same time the ISD taxes will be frozen at $0. In the meantime, I look at realtor.com about three or four times a week and prices are still going down because supply is up. Worst case scenario, if I were to purchase and have to protest, I know exactly how to protest to old men that are now my peers. Pictures estimates, and the sales price. In fact, going in to a protest I would look older and poorer than the old men. My objective is to get an appraisal under 200k on a 190k purchase price without having protest, but that may be too much to ask for. -
We need a Nuremberg trial for the entire administration from the top down.
