Are Republicans Evil?

Too many are a toxic admixture of evil and ignorance. Take Markwayne Mullins, for example. He’s another one of those Tommy Tuberville Republicans elected to Congress without knowing the branches of government:

Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) is leading a resolution that aims to erase former President Trump’s second impeachment after the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack and repeats numerous arguments to cast doubt on the integrity of the 2020 election.

A copy of Mullin’s draft bill obtained by The Hill said that the incitement of insurrection impeachment charge “contains a subjective account of that which transpired at the Capitol on January 6, 2021” and “omits any discussion of the circumstances, unusual voting patterns, and  voting anomalies of the 2020 Presidential election itself.”

Mullin, a former mixed martial arts fighter, leaped into action to barricade doors to the House chamber during the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, making his move to erase Trump’s impeachment after the attack particularly notable

Are Republicans evil? Unequivocally.  At a bone marrow level:

A U.S. district court will hear arguments on Tuesday in a case from Texas challenging the Affordable Care Act's requirement that HIV preventative medication be fully covered by insurance.

Driving the news: Jonathan Mitchell, Texas' solicitor general who helped write part of the state's six-week abortion ban, argues that mandatory HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis, known as HIV PrEP, violates the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, a law that "ensures that interests in religious freedom are protected."

  • The law is often used in legal cases challenging abortion and contraception access, as well as health care for transgender people, Bloomberg reports.
  • HIV PrEP is more than 90% effective in preventing the transmission of HIV.

State of play: Mitchell argued in a November court filing that the plaintiffs in the case — Kelley Orthodontics, Joel Starnes, Braidwood Management Inc. and John Kelley — "do not wish to subsidize or provide insurance that encourages and facilitates homosexual behavior, drug use, or sexual activity outside of marriage between one man and one woman."

  • This "unquestionably qualifies as a 'substantial burden' on the exercise of their religion."

Context: Under the ACA, most health insurance plans must cover certain recommended preventive services, including HIV testing for people aged 15-65 and HIV PrEP for adults who are at high risk of getting HIV.

  • In 20212, the FDA made Gilead's Truvada the first approved drug for HIV prevention in uninfected adults.
  • In 2019, the U.S. Preventative Services Taskforce recommended PrEP as an effective method of preventing HIV, meaning health plans had to make it available at no cost to patients under the ACA in January 2021.

What we're watching: If Mitchell and his clients win the case, HIV PrEP — which can cost upward of $20,000 a year and is prescribed to tens of thousands of people — would become harder for patients to access

Once they decide to challenge state funding for STI testing/treatment, they'll put my entire clinic out of business (and we already don't make any fucking money!).

What is that medicine for? I assume a negative partner who’s partner is positive? I’m asking you because you are a therapist/counselor/nurse in that area iirc?

There are two medications this piece of shit is targeting: Truvada and Descovy. Truvada is available as a generic now as well. Both are a single pill regimen that you take once a day, and, as long as you take it consistently, you will not contract HIV no matter how much viral exposure you receive. They are known as PrEP medications (pre-exposure prophylaxis). All genders and sexual orientations can and do take PrEP. They are in no way "gay" drugs .

This law is pure spite and is only seeking to push gay people back into the deadly closet of the 90s.

Next thing you know, they'll target actual HIV treatment meds, because if you take those consistently, it's impossible to spread the disease. Wouldn't want to encourage being gay!

I thought that was already going on a few months ago. Thought I saw something about it in a thread here.

Religious freedom means theocracy to these assholes. Pure Orwellian shit. These people need to be wiped off the planet.

Man, these guys are making make Rose Mary Woods appear circumspect:

https://www.rawstory.com/chad-wolf-2657767279/

Text messages for former President Donald Trump’s acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf and acting deputy secretary Ken Cuccinelli are missing for a key period leading up to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, according to four people briefed on the matter and internal emails. This discovery of missing records for the senior-most homeland security officials, which has not been previously reported, increases the volume of potential evidence that has vanished regarding the time around the Capitol attack," Carol Leonnig and Maria Sacchetti reported.

Same as it ever was.

Whatever you think of him and his personal life, he worked for his constituents:

And at the end when you hear "The gentleman from Texas" you just know it's some stupid republican ready to blather on about whatever.

That Stewart rant is epic.

And it’s what we need more of. Fuck rules, norms, and decorum. Fuck fighting with one hand tied behind your back while the opposition is using a nail-studded 2x4.
Call them what they are. Liars. Gutless cowards. Murderers. Motherfuckers. Fucking assholes. I want sitting members of Congress to do this, on the floor. “Censure me for calling you a bought and paid for NRA whore? Censure yourself for putting your power ahead of the lives of children, who had their internal organs turned to fucking pudding so you could keep cashing checks, you gutless motherfucker. I’m done with you fucking assholes. Burn in hell, where you belong.” Shit like that.
