Texas 2020 general election

Recommended Posts

I received mine and my wife's vote by mail applications today.  Hopefully I won't need them, but good to have.  Gonna check that disability box if need be.

I don’t recall the specific posters on the site who have mentioned their Gen Z teenage kid(s) being tuned into national politics, but the Texas Democratic Party is offering a volunteer program for high school kids or recent grads who may be interested. Or if they need service hours it could be a fun thing to do to meet like minded individuals their age. It’s part of the Texas Dem Party’s outreach to young voters

pretty sure you can't sit on that. I think the deadline is the 11th day before the election date you want to participate in. so, for instance, you'd need to get it in by the 1st of July (basically) to be eligible to vote in the runoff.

Ah, I was actually only thinking for November, but with the way things are spiking, maybe the runoff wouldn't be a bad idea either.

ETA:  from the application instructions:

If you are 65 or older or disabled, you may apply to receive all ballots by mail for a calendar year.  If you do not select any elections in Box 6a, your application will be considered an annual application.  If you submit an annual application for a ballot by mail, your application may be forwarded to other entities holding elections where you are a qualified voter.  This means that you may receive a ballot for those elections in addition to the ballots you requested with this application.

You are correct about the 11th day before the election date deadline.

The annual election option was harped on during the TX Dem Convention. You’ll get auto mail for every election going forward

Ken Paxton’s case is going back to Collin County. Was indicted nearly 5 years ago for securities fraud and other felonies

That's not going to be a great venue after November, as I suspect Collin is going to follow so many other counties and go Democratic at the county level.

COVID spreading like crazy

oil prices in the shitter

most unlikeable incumbent president in recent memory who happens to share the same party as state leadership

economy is not good

all of these things seem to be a recipe for chaos. When your a political party who hasn’t won a statewide race since the early 90’s and has been pretty feckless in state for the last 30 years overall.  Chaos can be a good thing.

Wonder how many people will get sick or die because they have to go up to election areas.  Bleh, fuck it, we'll never know as Texas will never get contact tracing going in any effective way.

I’ve posted about it twice today, so three times won’t make me more annoying.

Anyone can vote by mail in Texas if they fill out the application for disability, which also covers any illness. If you and only you think your condition or illness will get worse as a result of showing up and staying in line, then you are correct in that determination and eligible to vote by mail. Election admins can’t research or look into your disability choice, and you do not have to list your illness or condition. Feel free to share this on every Texas based message board you may visit.

https://webservices.sos.state.tx.us/forms/5-15f.pdf

Also, there will be curbside voting this year if you feel any symptoms.

https://www.votetexas.gov/voters-with-special-needs/

Curbside Voting

If a voter is physically unable to enter the polling place, he or she may ask that an election officer bring a ballot to the entrance of the polling place or to a car at parked at the curbside. After the voter marks the ballot, they will give it to the election officer, who will put it in the ballot box. Or, at the voter’s request, a companion may hand the voter a ballot and deposit it for him or her.

Eh. It was Cruz +6, Paxton +7, Potty Patrick +8, Abbott +19 in 2018. That's a lot of ground to cover. And I'm sure local incumbent GOPs are closer to the Abbott number.

It is more GOP than the state as a whole. If Collin County goes Democratic then Biden isn't just winning, he is winning by 5-10 points. That just isn't happening.

Yup....... focus still needs to be on making Tarrant county permanently blue and improving the margins in the major Texas counties.

It has been more Republican than the state as a whole, but I think people underestimate the speed with which it is changing.  Suburban women are breaking hard to the Democrats.  And in the meantime, you have more and more minorities moving into Collin County.

Early voting started today for the runoffs and will go for two weeks. You should get a pretty sweet finger condom for the touch screen

Braver than me. I think I’m going to sit this one out.    In person voting during a Covid spike seems like a disaster movie plot line

Yeah, I voted at the Burger Center this morning.  The machines are spread out over an entire basketball court.  Other than the guy behind the plexiglass that scanned my ID, I never got within ten feet of another person.  And since I was already in South Austin with a finger condom, guess whose mom I went to visit after voting?

They both recently polled at 10% deficits. They will be debating at 630 on KAVU and will be streamed on social media as well tonight

If you want a breakdown without visiting their own websites, the Tribune has an article below where they asked all the candidates In the primary their stances on a range of issues

Could probably post this in the Vote By Mail thread as well, but if you were curious about how the vote by mail ballots in Texas are processed, the Travis County Clerk tweeted a video of the process.

300 ballots per minute, 2 machines

No, you’re wrong. I need to be blunt and to the point cause I’ve posted it 74729261 times but we can’t get a sticky.

Election administrators cannot investigate Disability (which covers any illness). You as voter get to decide what disability or illness is. There is no wrong answer, you do not need to list any reason on the application. It’s just a check mark. If that hypothetical condition  they have no authority to review would become worse by standing in line, then you can check that box. Allergies get worse outside,?check the box. Chronic back pain, leg pain, knee or joint pain? Will it get worse standing in line? Check the box. Whatever you decide is an illness or disability, and can possibly get worse, you are eligible.

There is no doctor note required. You do not have to have some handicap sticker hanging from your car. You do not need hospital records. If you have any kind of illness or disability, you are the SOLE decision maker in that and can get a vote by mail ballot. They cannot investigate a claim based off a decision made in the 1981 Legislature. If you fill out the application correctly, they have to give you a ballot.

The creepy Dan Patrick probably has a bullseye on this for the next legislative session.

Probably. But until then, Stassney is right. Check the damned box and you get a ballot.

Ha. Thanks for being blunt. This is actually the first time seeing it.

I’ll get three printed out tomorrow. My trump hating wife and 64 year old mom were also worried and not going to vote.

Trump hating dad is over 65 and already had his in the mail.
