Yep and zero issues with the value I wanted to state.

The way it used to work is if you had been with them for a while and hadn’t exhibited any insurance fraudish behavior in that time, they would take your word for it.  Once you get above a certain value ($100k iirc) you had to have it appraised.

Hagerty is kind of like that. You have to send in pics of engine, trunk, floors and interior but I've had no issue with those guys.

They insure my superbee for $80K and when hurricane michael hit, I called and they said don't worry. You'll get cash valve for it up to your insured level. Lucky I didn't have to test that first hand.

Now I am in search for a battery. I keep a trickle charger on it 24/7 and always starts right up. But Sunday no noise when turning her on...(hey-oh!)...had to jump start her to back out and clean the garage. Jumped again to park back in garage.

Side note: I used one of those portable jump starters I got at Costco to keep in wife’s car. Worked great. Type S brand, very compact. Looks like a hard drive.

It is the same battery from when I got her 4 yrs ago.

Anyone tried Optima red tops on a classic? Looking at a 34R model which has posts that match my layout.

Got plenty of friends that run them on race cars and street cars that are old cars. I had one on my 70 z28.

Straight mopar porn man, that's a legit V code car atleast by vin. Only 246 Road Runners were built with the 440 Six Barrel and of those 132 were 4 speeds. That's a nice car I can say this it doesn't look to be over restored, atleast in the eng bay....which is good.

Some clues, oil dipstick, negative battery cable and wire loom looks to have orange overspray all over them, which is factory correct. The car has an original voltage regulator on the firewall and air filter. The knock off air filters are a cross hatch wire design not a round hole punch design. I would drive that baby and let her eat all damn day long from gas station to gas station. Which looks to be what he is doing by evidence of the rear carb having black soot on the inner air filter ring. (Back carb only kicks in when you hammer down). Keep'em coming! +rep for a nice find!

Man I fucking love Impalas. My dream car is a ‘58 convertible, white with red interior. It’s just so 50s, but more so, with all that chrome and extra everything - headlights, taillights. On and on.

My great grandfather had a 65 Impala, red with a white panel inserts. He never waxed the rear end. I asked why not. He said I don't see it when I'm driving...

That's a reason, I suppose.

She’s alive. Started up strong.

Battery fit fine. I’m cleaning up the clamp but it fits also.

Digging the serpentine belt get up. How difficult was installing it ?

That was an unexpected install and not by me...year ago I took it into an auto place (Bumberas) for inspection. We were looking under the hood and my old belt was hanging on by threads in some areas. Not sure wtf happened. Looked like the tensioner was fucked. So I opted to just get a whole new setup, Concept One. New components except the water pump.

So much for just a $12 inspection.

Got my tranny back from the rebuild shop.  Minty fresh.

IMG_6019.jpg.6a8ee28ba85d8ca9a8b84b406c545a8d.jpg

I considered just replacing the oil and gaskets and tossing it back on the block, but when I tried to remove the speedo - nope.  The metals had fused together and there was no chance of removing it.  Bad sign, so I sent it in.

Good thing. Builder said the clutches were completely trashed.  Live and learn, no shortcuts in a restoration.

The 1959 Impala hardtop coupe was the hottest ride on the UT campus when I was in high school. Then my freshman year the ‘63 Super Sport became all the rage with the 1%er frat rats. Particularly the rag top.

'Cuda update!

Got the engine back from the rebuilder, put it together with new headers, rebuilt trans, and K member.  Repainted correct mopar orange and mounted back into engine bay, which is now sprayed body color.  Just waiting on the damn steering box back from FirmFeel and this bad boy will be road ready!

Should be a great daily driver with the EFI. Stock rebuild or you go forged internals? Any details from the builder, cam specs dyno, powerband RPM, header size?

Headers are Hedman Performance Group, from their Elite line.  1 3/4" tubes, 3" collector, 14g steel w/ ceramic coating.

I need to get the exact specs on the cam from the engine rebuilder so we can tune the FI tech system.  I told him I wanted something streetable, but I still wanted it lopey and to sound like a muscle car when I got on the gas.

Here's the engine dyno report, made 402 ft-lbs torque and 354 hp @4500 and 4800 RPM respectively.

Had some time this evening so I worked on the engine bay wiring. Installed a correct date coded voltage regulator and ballast.

Also the correct 7 blade fan and concourse date coded "070" fan clutch came in today from Tony's parts. This is the last piece of the cooling system to installed. Just need the correct bolts.

Planning on taking leave after the 4th and I'll install the rebuilt dash, steering column, brake booster and master cylinder. 217ddd990087d9ac64b1025e8be49d95.jpg2645561b9868cc1718f9418016490145.jpgb5b14731004c9b255baf54661662c1a0.jpg

Fan assemby installed, took me a few hours with just one good arm (recent shoulder replacement surgery) but masking tape boltanon the back and a bit of patience paid off.

Last piece of the cooling system is done! Contemplating on using Evans (waterless) coolant instead of the conventional coolant. Anybody have experience with it?992356d14dba1315e98a6fdaed622fe4.jpg50b37b224c477f8461eac25bc551347e.jpg

Anyone recommend a good place for classic car mechanics in Austin?  Would like to have a comprehensive mechanical inspection, and refresh all the fluids.  Not really rocket science, but would like to start working a relationship with a good mechanic who knows their way around these things.

I am considering:

I have been using Troy Davis at Austin City Hot Rods off of McNeil/Spicewood and 183. Small shop, only a few guys and 2 bays but knowledgeable and good work. They’d rather do it once and do it right. Been happy so far with the work on the ‘Cuda.

How does that vintage compressor run?  Since you aren't doing a factory restore, I'd be sorely tempted to put a rotary compressor in there.

According to VintageAir it's a Sanden compressor, people refer to it as rotary but it's actually axial 🤷‍♂️
