  1. Simple is fearful that the Mavs may fall into the obyss.
  2. Give it a couple hours, top. We'll see the pic in the Town Lake serial killer thread.
  3. No disagreement on Felix's. Oysters are better me thinks. Acme is still really good and the known entertainment value from Norman is the kicker on the overall experience, for me at least. Can't lose with either. Definitely agree on the up-front tip angle.
  4. Heading to New Orleans in two weeks. Haven't been in over a year but I guess Norman is still around at Acme. Fewer things better than getting a bar seat near / next to the front window and having him there to serve and story tell. Watching the Masters this weekend reminded me of his stories working the dinner a couple of times. Norman always has plenty to talk about and will usually work the (really) big ones into your dozen on the half shell.
  5. Plohetski really earned his skins in 2018 covering the Austin bomber. Outstanding reporting. He's moving more and more from the Statesman to KVUE (both Gannett-owned) which probably makes sense given the inevitable death of the newspaper business. Plus he'll ultimately be more marketable on the television side. I think Plohetski will be a big presence in the national media at some point.
  6. If you're incapable of looking at what I said above then I'll reiterate it - Abbott is sinking to a new low by ignoring what the jury found in this case. He's embarrassing. Someone said Abbott was the worst Texan ever. I said it was Mayfield. If you're attaching any seriousness toward a post comparing an irrelevant football player to a mind-numbing governor of this state then there is only so much hand holding I can do. It was a joke. Move on.
  7. Chuckling about anything, on Surly? Dear lord. You've been on this board awhile I'm sure. Sometimes it gets to that. I gave up a long time ago trying to rationalize and / or justify anything scumbag politicians do, of any persuasion. This is just another exhibit. I get what you're saying but at some point you throw up your hands and give up. I'll try and return to being serious if that's possible given the last 6 hours. I don't follow much media in this town, it's all over the place and borders on stupidity in many cases, ranging from the Chronicle, to KLBJ AM to the Statesman and everywhere in between. Ed Clements is considered a go-to source in this town, it's that bad. I do follow and trust Tony Plohetski. You all should all know and follow him if you're interested in outstanding investigative reporting. He's the best journalist in the city and one of the best in the country. When Plohetskii holds court, it normally merits one's attention. Interesting analysis on the Perry case with a couple of high profiles in Austin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6k95mKygpA
  8. I was willing to give someone else a chance on this to absorb some levity. Bad audience.
  9. Fresh for me, on everything. Slice, dice, especially in the cast iron or whole on the grill. Can never get enough of them.
  10. It's Baker Mayfield. Strong case for Abbott afterward.
  11. The jury spoke. You can agree with the decision or disagree with it. That's your prerogative as citizen of the state, Abbott. But trying to swing your dick because it can be swung is just laughable and embarrassing. Respect what the jury found. I fucking hate politicians.
  12. I'll try spelling it out as you're struggling to get across the finish line. I despise any machismo-laden individual who thinks it's okay to walk around in public wearing an AK-47. Period, end of story. It takes imbecility to another level. There could have been 5 Garrett Fosters that night with their own big statements hanging around their necks, except they could have all been MAGA-driven wing nuts, and if they'd been shot in the same situation I'd have the said the same thing. Except I probably would have said it 5 times. Move on. Everything doesn't have to be about politics. Sometimes it's simply about people making stupid choices.
  13. I'll revisit as you seem to need it. I don't get into politics, red, blue or whatever. I am into sensibility and especially averse to people whose stupidity can cost lives. Buffoons made it "ok" for people to carry around AK-47s in public. If you choose to be an extension of that buffoonery then accept that it can yield consequences. Both of these people had stupid traits and they've paid for it in their own way.
  14. Perry sounds like an asshole and assholes ultimately get theirs in some fashion or the other. Sounds like he needs to go sit in prison for awhile. I expect him to be sentenced as such Tuesday. Foster was an unbridled cretin. In a very intense and volatile environment he was in a mask and sporting an AK-47 around his neck. That's not someone looking to deliver first communion. Did he deserve to be shot? I don't know. I wasn't in the courtroom to hear all the evidence. But was Foster, at a minimum, asking for trouble? Next question. I've no sympathy for either. Like I said, I hate radicals to a core, doesn't matter whether their preferred color is blue, red, yellow or whatever. You carry some of the baggage around that both of those guys did and it's not always going to end well. Be civil. Walk straight. Don't do unhinged, dumb shit. You'll probably stay above ground for a long time and at the same time stay out of a cage as well.
  15. Yeah, pretty sure it was the same product but on the cheap.
  16. I guess these are gone. Never see them at the Brodie location anymore. Very good and a bargain+.
  17. Anyone who carries around a long-end assault weapon, in public, is an unbridled buffoon who is opening themselves up to be weeded out of the gene pool. Doesn’t matter if you're are a MAGA-loving Cro-Magnon or a socialist left leaning pig. Black, white, green, purple, whatever. Blue, red. Don’t give a shit. I don’t distinguish when it comes to hatred of radicals of any persuasion and I especially don’t distinguish when it comes to the unbridled idiocy of carrying an AK-47 in public, fucking idiot. Push around a baby stroller, carry around a bag of groceries, hold hands. Do things in public that civil people do. If you feel the need, go ahead and carry your concealed weapon. But not an assault rifle because you’re a machismo-driven Neanderthal that thinks it’s a good way to be to out there and make some sort of wayward statement. It’s fucking dumb. It’s fucking stupid. And it may just get you on a cold slab.
  18. The best team won. Everyone else was playing for a (distant) second. Hats off.
  19. Texas was one of the 3 o r 4 best teams in the tournament. Nothing wrong with that, at all. Helluva year. UConn was the best team in the tournament on both ends. Above and beyond everyone else. It peaked at the right time. Offensive continuity was there for most of the season and the defense is what separated it at the end. Good for the Hurley family. That's one helluva an accomplishment for UConn - 5 trips to the final, 5 wins.
  20. Doesn't matter the sport. If you're older than 25 and wearing a jersey, or any sort, you deserve to be beaten. I hope we can all agree on that.
  21. There's two sports that matter at Texas. Football and basketball (mens). That's it. Beard was our answer, the most important hire in either sport in a long, long time. He was it. We all remember that first presser. But everything went to hell on Dec 12 when a giant fucking needle was inserted into our unbridled balloon of hope and optimism. If it didn't happen then, it was going to happen eventually. Unhinged, out-of-control women beaters are going to rear their heads, eventually. And maybe this was just the first time someone elected to dial those three #s. Who knows. What happened sucks to this day. But it's a still just a game. And what Beard did was above and beyond that. Move on.
  22. Yep, would make sense on the NBA front. Nothing wrong with some R&R doing the TV thing waiting on a plush job. Again, he's still so young relatively speaking.
