  1. If they're smart they're in a bar. That's a terrible way to watch the game.
  2. On another note what is Alanis Morrisette doing at the CMT awards?
  3. Correct. The best team in the tournament. They'll win easily Monday night.
  4. Meh. Just watch ESPN, over and over and over and over, and it will convince you every 30 seconds on how the women's game is so good. But it's not. It's unwatchable.
  5. That is your definition of a nightmare. A violent tornado is the starter. And on top of it, at night, just a dark, menacing death machine periodically illuminated by lightning. Fuck that.
  6. Yes, it was. That was a nasty, and really good, Georgetown team. Villanova had no fear after playing them close (twice) during the regular season. Nova shot 78% for the game. From the floor. Shots taken were at a minimum. Every one mattered. McClain (D) and Pinckney were big but Harold Jensen just as much if not more. Hit some clutch shots when they needed to be made.
  7. I watched the final quarter of that womens game last night. The Iowa gal is good, has a nice jump shot. She seems to walk about every 3rd possession but I'll leave that to the 2,000 or so "refs sucks" subscribers on this board. The real story was the So Car coach. She was atrocious. Iowa has one player that can beat you. Cut off the damn head. Play one defender on her, run a 2nd one at her constantly and let those 3 big players run a triangle defending the basket. Nothing wrong with making an adjustment in the game. the coach may be the 2nd coming of John Wooden for all I know. Last night she was abysmal.
  8. Once the NCAA opened up entire stadiums to the FF quite a few years ago it became a beating to watch the game in person. It was bad enough when the stadiums were cut in half. Entire stadium? That's a bad, very bad, in-person experience. NRG is no exception. There are 70,000 or so seats available for sale, 2,500 of which are okay seats and go to the schools, NABC and sponsors. The remainder of the seats are distant views, and worse. I made the mistake of going to the semis in NRG in 2016. Never again, and we were "lower level". These tickets in the 600s should be given away, all games or otherwise, regardless of the matchups. Buy them and you may as well be watching the game from a neighboring highway.
  9. It won't get a ton of votes but my favorite (despite the video).
  10. Still the greatest day in Texas basketball history. I remember us driving down 35 that Sunday morning and you could see tons of orange in vehicles. 30,000 in the Alamodome. Not surprisingly, 27,000 - 28,000 were on the right side. Horns took the lead on a Sydmill 3-pointer about midway through the first half. Horns never looked back from that point. I don't think Sparty got closer than 5 or 6. Counting down the last seconds and seeing Ford and Barnes embrace at mid-court will always be etched in my mind. The next few days going into New Orleans were surreal hearing "Texas in the Final Four". Didn't seem possible but so it was. No reason is ever needed for a trip to New Orleans and it was an especially memorable one despite the Syracuse loss. Nothing was going to ruin the season. Seeing Ford in in the stands last Sunday in KC reminded me of his importance to that season and to the program as a whole, to this day. Before Durant and subsequent high-profile recruits, Ford made it cool to come to Texas. He was the first elite player we landed. Because of that and the (still) unmatched heights to which he took the program, Ford remains the most important player in Texas basketball history.
  11. Jesus, that footage. The balls on that cop. Big, very big. And manners as well before entering the building, "Yes Ma'am."
  12. It's multi-tiered. It's expensive to live here. Above and beyond, the shortage was and is due to cancelled cadet classes, more cops retiring than expected and difficulty recruiting to this city. Those three are a recipe for a police shortage. The budget is fine now but you can't just catch up with the necessary headcount just like that. It's a shit show here and both the Austin Police Association and the city government contribute to it. At the end of the day you have to an idiot to be cop. You have to be an exponential idiot be a cop in Austin.
  13. Good for Terry. Remains to be seen if he'll be a long-term success as Texas basketball coach. But at a minimum he's proven to be a quality person, leader and representative of the university. Love when good things happen to good people. He's obviously one of those.
  14. Donewald is likely to stay. That's really big. Texas was always going to play defense. Beard built the team around it and that aspect wasn't going away. It was the cornerstone of the team's success. But Texas really turned the corner when Beard gave Donewald control of the offense before the season started. At that point Texas went from a conference title contender to a national title contender. Donewald is a long-time coach, tons of international experience. China, where Yao Ming went to him for help in hiring a coach. Russia. Serbia. Elsewhere. Be glad he ultimately landed in Austin. His influence on the offense has been wide and deep. We went from a liability on that side of the ball to an asset that could win games, and not lose them. More than anything, Donewald's work with the interior players was nothing short of great. Disu's development, we saw, was especially outstanding. We saw some offensive lapses deep in the game yesterday but, overall, we have to be very happy with the progress on that side of the ball this season. That's on Donewald. Along with Terry, Donewald will be rewarded for his work this season and it's well deserved. As mentioned, it sounds like he'll be staying. Texas needs to make sure that happens.
  15. Yeah, I was and did. I probably watch 60 hours or so of the tournament every year. It's the best sporting event in the world. I love Texas basketball. I love college basketball just as much or more. It's why I was glued to the set over the last two weeks. It's why I'll be watching Saturday and Monday. I wish Texas was still playing. It isn't. The officials had nothing, zero, to do with that. Sans the occasional weirdness like the end of the Memphis game, for example, the officiating in the tournament has been good. I've no ties to referees on any level. No interest in them whatsoever, except that they do their jobs. They have so far. Cunningham call? He's allowed to hold his place in position for a rebound. He's not allowed to backpedal and take another player out to secure a rebound. That's a staple of Cunningham's game. He got called for it in a crucial moment today and it was the right call. Damn tough player. But he committed a foul. Miami ended the game on a 35-16 run over the last 10 minutes. We played really, no extremely, well for the for the first 30 minutes of the game. We played bad, and dumb, basketball over the last quarter. That last foul by Carr was a microcosm of our meltdown. But Miami made play after play when we struggled to make one, and it deserves credit for that. At the end of the day, it wasn't all about us and had zero to do with the officials. There are saps who will cling to that for awhile. They can't be helped. This was a kick in the groin today. It sucks and will for while. We needed to play better and just didn't when it mattered. That's it. Nothing more. On top pf that you give credit to a team that performed better than you when it mattered most.
  16. He's the player every successful team needs - hustles, great rebounder, passes well and all in all will do whatever you need.
  17. No substitute for confidence in the 2nd weekend. Texas is a confident team.
