  1. I kept a semi-running account of updates to what I went through to update the LR to more of a media-centric LR in another thread of this sort, but wanted to come back to share my thanks to @ChickenSandwich for his above post. While I'm here, might as well catch anyone up that missed what's happened, and where things are currently. Grab more coffee, or beverage of your choice, here we go. First, the important shit. What did I end up with? The short list: The basics: - New theater-style couch and loveseat - New waterproof LVP flooring in the LR, upper landing, kitchen, pantry, and laundry room (~850sqft combined) - New blinds (4, double honeycomb blackout; 1 roman blackout) - New ceiling fan for the LR - All new paint in the LR, upper and lower landings, stairwell, kitchen, pantry, and laundry - New vent registers where needed with new floor The Electronics: - AWOL Vision LTV-3000 Pro (Ultra short-throw projector, aka laser-tv) - Nothing Projector Black Series, 120" ALR screen - Salamander Synergy 248 A/V cabinet - Onkyo RZ50 AVR - SVS Prime: L/R tower, center, bookshelves for L/R surrounds (14ga wire) - Klipsch 12" sub (12yr old, that I already had on hand, and is pretty damn good) - AppleTV Here's the painting: Then came the flooring: And then came the fun shit: It's a work in progress, still. But not constantly active work, and we're starting to put things back together. Will be swapping the center channel and the projector before too long. Right now I'm just letting it break in. So yes, the screen isn't in 100% the perfect spot, and some tweaks need to happen. That will happen this month at some point, but for now it's fine while I handle some other needs that are more important. I didn't 100% know how or if this setup would truly work in my space. I knew the gear was good, I did my homework. Other than "settling" on an Onkyo receiver that was on sale for $1018, vice the Denon I'd been looking at which was another $700. Savings, plus Crutchfield standing behind it even further, made it an easier decision. So far it's been great, no complaints, and it stays out of the way. and more of an afterthought than realizing all it is handling. The SVS Prime are fuckin tits. They sound very, very fucking good. I love them, and now we're back full circle. I was originally thinking Klipsch, as I'd had good success with them previously. Then digging a little deeper, they aren't the quality/value they once were, and there are better options out there. (Not speaking to their handmade stuff that's still made in NW AR, just their main production line.) Anyway, Chicken was absolutely right. I read his post, took it to heart, and went on to do a bunch of digging. Let me save anyone coming across this some time and effort. SVS Prime: do it and don't look back. This center is fantastic, I love it. The rest are just as damn good, and together it all sounds incredible. Originally, I'd been looking at the soundbar route. A double sub Nakamichi setup, not the dragon, or maybe the sammy 990C. I'm so, so glad I decided to do the AVR/Speaker setup instead, on several levels. First, the sound is just so much better. You don't realize it until you do. Not just in overall quality, but depth. You don't really know you're missing so many layers through a soundbar that just can't accurately reproduce the audio. Second, switching and video features. There would be no video help with a soundbar, and limited inputs to switch between. Not optimal these days. Yes, it doubled what I planned to spend, but the result was absolutely worth it. I wouldn't hesitate to get SVS again, and guarantee I will be in the future when the time comes in a few years to move. Now for picture quality. I moved from a 2020 model year, 75" samsung Q60T. It was ok, but not great in the areas that LED are known to struggle. The biggest issue for me was color banding when trying to show gradients. It was not bueno, and drove me fucking nuts. The color range just wasn't there at times, and it sucked ass like a pixelated image. Bad bad bad. And of course, the fucking glare off the som bitch was just atrocious. Like a fucking mirror. So placement of things was an issue. That glare would have my eyes bouncing between the image in the reflection, and the underlying image from the TV screen. It was getting to the point of causing me headaches from time to time. So I did a ton of homework, and ended up coming across Ultra Short Throw projectors. Did some more digging, and it sounded like a solid fix for my situation. But what model? This wasn't going in a fully light controlled space, it was going in the living room. I knew I would painting dark, as well as adding new blinds, but would it be enough? Did I need those 4000 ANSI lumens from something like the Epson LS800? Could I go with something like a Formovie Theater at 2800 ANSI lumens instead? That one seemed to be the favorite across a lot of sites, user driven and review. More digging, more research. After all of that, I finally narrowed down to the AWOL LTV-3000 Pro. 2400ANSI lumens, with a peak of 3000. I'm guessing peak is on a really bright DV image, dunno. Even after all my research, I still wasn't sure it was going to work like what I'd been lead to believe about UST capabilities. Well, it worked out and it's fucking glorious. It's really good during the day, and fucking incredible at night. The blacks aren't a light gray, they're black. Maybe a few shades light, but unless you have eagle eyes, it's very good. At night, it's brilliant. Just a quick note, the 3500 Pro probably isn't worth damn near double the price for another 400 ANSI lumens. Maybe if you had a ton of open windows, and shit like that during the day, but for me it was worth the gamble that the 2400 ANSI lumens of the 3000 Pro would work out. (If not, I'd probably went with the Formovie, which is at the same price point at the 3000 Pro.) Back to the 3k Pro. It's awesome. I've watched sports, TV, movies, and 3D movies. So far it's been outfuckingstanding. Could not be more pleased. The color representation is fucking great. Not talking about over-saturation like you'll see on LED tv demos playing at a store. I'm talking actual colors it can reproduce. While my old samsung struggled to hit 70% of the rec.703 scope, this 3k Pro hits 107% of the bt.2020 spec. Stupid smooth gradients, impressive shadowing, even a proper burnt orange. Finally, after a lot of digging, a lot of research, a lot of contemplation, and a lot of sweat, it's settled and all but complete. I do have the final positioning of the projector to handle, some minor touch-up on the walls, as well as sand/paint the fireplace, stair banister, and hand rails. Along with all the wall plates for the kitchen/laundry areas. For those I'm not quite sure how I want to handle it in terms of color. I've narrowed it down to 3 options: Copper, dark copper, and a dark gray that's close to the LR walls. So I painted 3 old plates, and have them on the wall in the kitchen until I make up my damn mind. So far, it's been 6 weeks and still not 100% sure. I'm leaning towards this: It doesn't really tie into the room, yet. However, once the kitchen goes through phase 2 next year sometime... This is the color scheme from the kitchen. Stock image from a paint color preview tool, but you get the idea. White cabs, and butcher block countertops. Once the new tops are on (looking at something a bit more like copper shade) I think the wall plates being copper would look pretty good. As it is right now, the darker gray to match the trim would be better. So still figuring that one out, plus some minor touch up paint, and the sand/paint mentioned as well. So it's close, and for now close enough and extremely functional as is. That's good, as I have some other things that unfortunately need attention first, as this project took a ton of focus, energy, and time. It wasn't all smooth sailing, but noted in another thread. Anyway, kind of funny I ended up with an appleTV. I have Roku Ultra's for 4 of the 5 other tv's in the house, but after seeing some of the shady shit they've gotten up to lately, I'm done. Grabbed an aTV to try, and won't be going back. Took a minute to get used to, but it's incredible. And despite what I thought initially, it absolutely was worth the extra coin. It will even process and update signals into a 4k Dolby Vision output. Now upscaling can only do so much, but damn if it doesn't help on content that is not native 4k, or has suffered compression. Amazing capabilities, and works really well. Got dayum that was a long catch-up. Well, there ya have it. 10/10, 5 stars, would absolutely buy again, blah blah blah.
  2. Yeah, what the fuck with ABIA lately? I have a Global Entry card and it seems to be largely worthless. I also have a GS-8 clearance from the DOE but was instructed to not use it to skip lines at the airport, but I'm real fucking tempted. I had to renew my driver's license yesterday in person for the first time in a decade and presented my U.S. Passport, my old TXDL, my Global Entry card, and my GS-8 card and the clerk was still asking her supervisor, "Well, he doesn't have his birth certificate so how I proceed?" Fucking TSA and DPS got together a few months ago and apparently figured out a collaboration to bring everything to an ass-grinding halt in the name of I don't fucking know what. I realize these people wanna look busy and book some overtime, but at some point don't have some self-respect and just want to finish their jobs?
  3. I know logic left the debate long ago, but I'd like just one of these fuckers to be asked if "you can be punished for using campaign funds and then lying about it to cover up fucking a porn star so that you win an election" is a more dangerous precedent than "you cannot be prosecuted if you are running for office"... because the latter sure appears to be what many are arguing.
  4. I'd assume Barrow hasn't signed a financial aide agreement with Miami at this point?
  5. Really strange what happened to her.
  6. We aren’t talking about your wife or my wife, we are talking about Donald J Trump’s wife. The only money things they talk about is how much money she gets to buy clothes and lunch with her girlfriends - and sometimes whatever bump up to her prenup she can finagle to make her stay with him. Weisselberg probably was in charge of/had possession of his personal checkbooks.
  7. Right. They actually believe there was a secret child sex ring run out of a pizza parlor, but Donald Trump bragging about sexual assault, palling around with Epstein, and being accused by like 17 women doesn't raise their eyebrows. These are the same people who think Fauci is full of shit and vaccines don't work, then when they get Covid they take horse dewormer that they got from their uncle the country vet, because they heard on Facebook from a housewife who did her shitter research that that's the real cure. This has become a divide of the people who can read, think, and tell a good news source from bullshit against those who can't, and those who can't have 95% of the guns. Ain't no way this ends well.
  8. [Ice Cube] She a straggler, struggler, straight salami smuggler Every time I see the bitch, she's looking uglier And if you got a trick-ass on your left, sitting there with dick on her breath Last night she sucked my dick, now she's kissing little man Won't he suck my dick and let's cut out the middle man And if you haven't heard of me, you's a bitch It ain't but a word to me
  9. I commented on this the last time I waited with Mrs. NNM to claim her bag (don't get me started on my periodic rage that other family members check bags, despite decades of watching me travel with NO checked bags for many reasons). I have been traveling domestically and internationally for over 50 years. Multiple millions of flight miles. Every continent except Australia and Antarctica. I have never once seen anyone, in any country, compare a bag check ticket against the ticket on the bag.
  10. My daughter got to meet and take a pic with the great Janae Jefferson yesterday. Her and Cat are signing autographs from 4-5 today inside the museum if anyone is gonna be here.
  11. Getting back to the draft during what will be an interminable wait until the finals... more and more Castle makes sense at 4, which means they will probably do some unexpected Josh Primo/Luka Samanic dumb shit and fuck this whole thing up. He should be available unless Houston trades #3 to someone who wants to move up for him. I figure Risacher/Sarr go 1/2, in either order, then Houston takes Sheppard or Clingan. At 8, I'm starting to come around on Dalton Knecht. He fills a desperate and immediate need for a shooting wing. He's a competent defender or at least big and athletic enough (39" vertical, fastest shuttle in the combine and second fastest in lane agility) to become one. Do you spend #8 on potentially the next Doug McDermott? The thing about Knecht that makes his developmental curve a little different is that he grew 5 inches after high school. So, it's not like he maxed out just by aging and being older than his peers like that one dude that killed Kentucky in the first round of the tourney. He maxed out by hitting a late growth spurt. It's reminiscent of the Derrick White trajectory, even down to the part about playing small college ball in Colorado before growing taller and then stepping up in class twice. The Spurs have always been drawn to those rags to riches stories about guys who have had to work their way up vs guys who came up through the AAU entitlement system. I could talk myself into him despite his being older than Wemby, Sochan, Branham, Cissoko, Barlow, and Wesley. He would immediately supplant Champagnie in the lineup. If they are going to roll the dice on another can't shoot prospect instead of Knecht, I'd go with Cody Williams. He's one of the easiest to visualize being a great pro because of his brother, yet also requires the most projection to get there. Also, has one of the longest developmental timelines, which will say something about their patience if they go there. Dillingham is also likely to be available at 8 as well but I don't think they want to play like they will have to on defense if he's your lead guard.
  12. I'd say Missouri has 1 and a half big cities. Or let's compromise at 1 and 3/5ths.
  13. Yeah that's what makes this illegal. Not actually paying her to stfu and go away that's totally fine and what they are leaning on. They are conveniently omitting the fact that he did this with intent to influence the election. His lawyer may not have understood the charges based on his interviews. It's not that complicated but it is not straightforward either which leaves tons of room for the spin that's happening.
  14. I enjoy that he’s on social media this morning telling the world it’s completely okay to pay off a porn star to keep her from talking about their affair. Once upon a time such things were frowned upon. Or even the hint of impropriety.
  15. He had sex with a porn star in 2006 and had Michael Cohen use his own money to pay her a month before the 2016 election to kill the story. Trump’s business records were falsified by then making payments to Cohen under the guise of it being a legal expense. This is what made it a felony, because he did it with the intent of influencing the election a month before the election when he had sex with her a decade prior.
  16. So with Phelan winning his nomination, he also gets his first challenger to Speaker, Shelby Slawson. She is a rude redhead. She’s also been embarrassingly schooled on her heartbeat bill bullshit by Donna Howard two sessions ago while a gaggle of Karens stand beside her for strength. Gets good around 2:30 when she’s can’t read definitions anymore.
  17. yup, everyone that meets her age critera are either dead, in a nursing home or unironically(to use her phrase) in the Senate or running for President
  18. Shit, I just realized. I've been blathering on and on about how when he dies...his worshippers will think it was a deep state hit or that he's not really dead but rather operating a shadow government in exile. What you can here is man in obvious physical decline. And it's going to get worse because he will consciously act the way he does which will only exacerbate it, though subconsciously his body will consume itself. But the new theory will be that this or one of his other court trials will accelerate that and cause his demise. And his followers will actually accept his death but blame it on our justice system. All of these judges and jurors have done their duty to the letter of the law. But there's a way to get this all blamed on Judge Cannon and they can go after her instead.
  19. I'd rather snatch it away from them at the end. Stride in to ruin their Normal Rockwell-esque gathering with their favorite sheep dates and Applebee's take out and leave them slack jawed and destroyed.
  20. I've seen a couple of these videos. Can you actually see the snakes when viewing the bats at Bracken Cave? I'd go for that.
  21. If we beat them early then we're just the "early setback." I'd prefer to beat them late and participate in the complete derailing of the ag roller coaster.
  22. Preach, sister. Although her history is a little off. As an Xer, I was certainly born after microwaves and segregation, but fit the rest of her criteria.
  23. Her opponent Danilovic just beat Vekic in a three hour match tiebreaker. Amazing match. Got a little dusty watching her in tears at the end.
