The Guitar Pron Thread

Sweetwater might no be a fair comparison. They have the best CS I think I’ve ever encountered in any industry.
I buy 95% of anything I need from Sweetwater every since my 1st encounter with them about 10 years ago for this reason. K. On my 3rd rep there and he calls me avery few months to see if I need anything. I work in sales so I get it, sometimes there actually is something I need.

Evidently Musician's Friend is figuring out that they need to step it up. I would buy there occasionally prior to discovering SW. I bought a $30 gig bag there a few months ago that was SDotD. Now I get constant emails from my "sales engineer", even left me a voicemail last week.

They still don't get it. The gig bag showed up and its fine, but I didn't find no bag of candy with it!

I bought a Victoria Bassman from CME and it showed up quickly and was packed perfectly.  I sold an Epiphone Casino to them sight unseen and it was super easy as well.  Sorry the setup wasn't good on the guitar.  That sucks.

I tell my wife that Sweetwater sells candy.  So far, she has yet to question.

How do you explain $1,500 of candy?

I ran out of gas.  I had a flat tire.  I didn't have change for cab far. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners.  An old friend came in from out of town.  Someone stole my car.  There was an earthquake, terrible flood. Locusts.  It wasn't my fault....I swear to God!

Yep. AUTF. Makes me so happy.

Good thing you're not with Michelle Herman.  Then things become a little murky.

Are you, though?

I think my wife wouldn’t give a shit about the mover apart from maybe pressing for more jewelry. It’s really just the cases. I want to get one of those school room stands to stack them up, but she’s not wild about that either. If I had a shit ton of fenders I’d get some double cases to be more efficient, but it doesn’t work out to be worth it. Having a bunch of acoustics fucks things up. Maybe if I put in better closet organization I could stuff them in there and she’d stop giving a shit.

Or you could just get divorced and spend every cent that comes in the door exactly how you want to.

That’s said, my ex wouldn’t have been able to tell one from the next or have any remote idea how many I had.

Pretty much this. My ex didn't notice the difference once I got past about 4 guitars and 3 amps. Probably flipping a few through the place helped disguise it. Otherwise, if you buy wisely and take decent care of them they are as good as a savings account, likely better. I think she got that.

Now that's my issue. I love every guitar in my collection, and it's pretty complete one. Covers all the bases, but the cases are lined up along an entire wall in my guest bedroom and I often think I'd rather sell a few and get the real estate back. Then I realize they would still take half a wall, and whats the difference between a wall and half a wall? It's not like I'm gonna clear half a wall of cool ass, awesome guitars and do something cooler with it, right?

I could part with the drum kit, but the kit is key. That was a good decision.

Well the mom and pop shop I wanted to give my business to lost today. They took my money for the Gibson es335 sixties cherry figured and they told me they’d have to order it. He said about a month. Well I call for a update or to at least get email updates and he called me back to tell me no one even ordered it. He said it was a total screw up on his part but I’m headed to Chicago and may hit the Chicago music exchange. Anyone ever been there? I want a freaking es335 like I ordered but with that kinda coin I can get something bad ass. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :/

Very cool place to visit (and the Drum Exchange next door). Parking sucks ass, because Chicago. You're also not far from Wrigley, so if you can time it right...

Hopefully the demo room where they had the cleanest '68 Super Reverb I've ever seen in person is open and the amp is still there. Pick a wicked guitar off the wall and check that thing out. Really, all the demo rooms had cool stuff to crank so I doubt you'll be left wanting. The wall of LPs is something else, too. Post some pics if it works out! It's a bucket-list-type place, imo.

Lake Placid blue Tele or Strat players series for $519 sale back on at Adorama. If anyone regretted not getting in before, go to slickdeals.net and look for it.

Do they actually have it? Both Sweetwater and GC websites said in stock they didn’t have at either

Dunno how married you are to Cherry, but they have this in stock at Wildwood for around that price.  You will likely be able to negotiate 15% off the price on the website.

It does not say sold out, but you can't add it to your cart. They have a serial number listed with it, so maybe on the way? Weird.

Yeah, as nice as the cherry is, I’m partial to AAA flamed figured maple. Each top is unique as a fingerprint, so no one has one like yours.

I see where Neal Schon is selling off a bunch of his historic guitars. I think the cheapest one I saw was $8,000. Most around the 20 to 30K price range. the Don't Stop Believing black Les Paul is a cool 200 grand.

Yeah, but cherry is the iconic 335 look.  Say ES-335 and you probably think of Chuck Berry, Alvin Lee or Marty McFly (lol) with a cherry red one.  I can see someone wanting that guitar.

Marty McFly had a 345.

This. I want the cherry they have it. But they want the full 3699 which I don’t care had sex! Just went to Chicago gotta make sure it’s still in budget after that will report back. If it is I’m pulling the trigger today. Unless surely wants to get me a better deal from them and have it shipped to me in michigan?

Cool.  I think its apparent you really want an ES-335.  While I am sure that Taylor is a fine guitar, if it was going to distance you from your ownership of an ES-335, you stood a good chance to regret buying it.  Good luck!

Man.  I haven't paid much attention to Phil X, mostly because I don't keep up with the hard rock slash metal world and I also hate Bon Jovi.

Jesus, that guy can play.  He's clearly insane, but he can play.

Turns out a friend of mine played drums for The Drills for a while.  That one escaped me.

That's my friend Matt on drums.  Loudest fucking drummer I have ever heard.  Met him at a Guitar Center master class that I took my daughter to.  He had a dream of opening a Texas BBQ joint in LA, and I gave him a little advice, but I don't think he did much with the idea.

EDIT:  man, I really loved that lead, especially the careening intervals.  Dude can play!  Taste, timing, balls.
