Just lay back and enjoy it, Claytie.

If not for that gaffe, he probably would have won the election, which means he would have been an incumbent in 1994 and there's no way W would have run against a sitting GOP governor.

1990 results:

Nominee Ann Richards Clayton Williams

Popular vote 1,925,670 1,826,431

That's a good point.  W. gets the "call" to run in 1998 and that point in Texas switch the solid red, wins reelection in 2002.  he then runs against incumbent POTUS, Al Gore, in 2004.  September 11th was going to happen regardless, but the economy would have been a big question mark.  Or a 2008 George W. v. Hillary Clinton would have been quite likely as well.

I was in junior high at the time but I remember that dude losing 10 points in the polls every time he opened his mouth.

Clayton Williams, the quintessential aggy who set the example for winning halftime and then going on to shit the bed before the competition ends.

I read that as Clayton Bixsby at first.

Clayton isn't going anywhere near Molly (or Ann) in the afterlife.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

As others mentioned I assumed he died over 10 years ago.

This is actually close to the Mandela effect for me, as I could have sworn I had a memory of him dying ~15 years ago.

i was going to post that.

full aggy.  more aggy-looking then anyone until sharp.

It's easier to remember the day Clayton Delaney died than the day Clayton Williams died. I'm another in the "Could sworn he died x years ago" camp.
