What we got for combo oven/air fryer recs? And yes I’m aware they’re generally the same thing.

I have a combo. It’s a ninja, and is an indoor grill/griddle/air fryer.

Base heater element is the grill, griddle fits on top of that, then the fryer basket sits on top of the griddle.

I like it overall. Wasn’t sure at first (it was a gift a few years ago), but it’s  been pretty good. I’ve made all kinds of shit with it. Of course as you can imagine, it’s possible for it to get a tick messy, depending on what you’re cooking.

Anyway, I’ve done grilled type stuff (brats, chops, burgers, chicken, etc), smash burgers, breakfast, enchiladas, casseroles, whatever. And that’s just the grill/griddle. Air fry stuff has been wings, corn dogs, mozzarella sticks, fried chicken, fried chops, and stuff like that.

For two, it’s really pretty good and very versatile. There’s a slight learning curve, like heating up something with a sealed cover (like a tray where you peel back a corner to vent) that can get sucked off (ha!) from the convection. So extra caution, use foil, wrap tight and poke a hole, etc.

There may be better, but this works well and no real complaints.

Has anybody tried the vacuum sealers that seem to have recently hit the market that are handheld, USB charged and have the reusable bags? My mom was raving about this thing to me. I've got to admit, it seems like I would use it a lot more often than my big ol Foodsaver.

Essentially looking to replace two old counter top appliances in one, don’t need griddle/grill or silly smart shit… just something this is medium size (10-12 wings or basket of fries), not a messy disaster, and won’t burn the house down.

that instant pot looks like it might just work. Thx all

Countertop?

We have the instant pot omni. Better than any we've used in the past.

Had a second Intant (instapot brand) airfryer crap out.

handle fell off - plastic screws. No replacement parts available. New has a door closure failure. Thinks it is always open and wont work.

They are off my list. Ninja or Breville the preferred?

*did find a youtube video replacing the switch so may try that first for a $5 part

We have the Breville Smart Fry and are happy with all it does EXCEPT for the air fry function. The air fry is ok, but just never seems to get a really good crisp/crunch on the food. Maybe my expectations are too high.

I purchased one of these earlier this year - Typhur Dome.  I love it.  It takes a fair amount of counterspace, but the footprint allows for a large tray that can hold a pizza and other food in a single layer.  The basket style air fryers seem counterproductive when you have to stack food.  I use it all the time for salmon, fries, chicken, and vegetables.  I've made beef jerky a few times and used the dehydrator for making dried Thai chiles.  Clean up is easy because it has nonstick ceramic coating throughout.

I already had a Typhur wireless thermometer and both devices connect to an app on the phone.

I have an older Cuisinart air fryer/toaster oven that's great. I've made whole Thanksgiving sides in it, and even made actual fried chicken on the bone with it. Had it since 2018 and we use the HELL out of it

Gotta get the one with actual physical knobs/dials - the digital screen ones have terrible controls

Our built-in microwave shits the bed about every 3 months, I've stopped fixing it and bought a countertop.  I just noticed this weekend that it has an "air fryer" mode.  Will try and report back.  I assume it sucks.

The only downside of the breville smart oven pro is it's pretty massive and expensive. But it works great.

Wife bought this pan. Putting this here as a timestamp to see how long it keeps its (actually pretty good) nonstick properties and also how long it takes my wife to absolutely ruin it by putting it empty on a burner cranked to high and walking away

it’s supposed to be noncoated nonstick, carbon steel with aluminum sandwiched in. Seems nice, although I’m just having a good time cooking on my lodge comal with a bit of butter

Thanks for the rec. Giving the 12" fry pan a go. Initial impression is it cooks great, cleans easily. It's very flat and has very low edges, qualities 180° opposite the 12" pan we already have so they'll make a great pair.

Serious question.  Has it ever been serviced (regreased).  The old ones have a reputation for being indestructible  Even our "old" 24 year old KA Tilt head supposedly is far better than anything from KA you can buy today.  But I think it needs service.

What were people thinking when they came out with that color? It was everywhere for years.

I remember when my parents bought a matching washer/dryer and oven for our kitchen.  (Yes, people did laundry in their kitchen back in the olden days.)  There were three color choices -- avocado green, dark bronze, and some kind of mustard yellow.  No white.  No black.  No stainless steel.  They went with the dark bronze.

You can do that? No shit?

Grandpa may have done a little on it, but I’ve had it 25 years and well, didn’t know that was a thing.

I worked some dough a bit hard with ours for a bit and noticed some grease leaking at the seam and looked it up.  Yes, service involves replacing plastic gears that get worn out and regreasing.  Not the worst DIY by the looks of it (you can buy kits), but really more grease than I want to deal with on a Saturday.  Still haven't done ours and it keeps humming along.

Wife got me one for Christmas last year.

The good: It is SO much more convenient than grabbing the FoodSaver out of the closet, cutting a bag off the roll to the right size, etc. I use the thing CONSTANTLY. Game changer for storing food, but also the clear ice that I make and use for cocktails. They don't get the freezer fuzz all over them like they do when I put them in a regular ziplock.

The bad: the bags are very prone to losing their ability to seal, and it's hard to tell why. Not sure if something gets in the ziplock mechanism, if the valve fails, or whatever. But they are too expensive to use a couple of times then toss.

I still have multiple bags left, and am torn as to whether I will buy more once they all fail.
