Golden is wide open on the crossing route on the bottom. The ball needs to be out already but Quinn is looking for a receiver on the left side of the field overloaded with defenders.

I wouldn’t rather have those guys no. I’d rather not have QE or Chris Simms either. I’d rather have VY and Colt.
I didn’t realize we were in the business of celebrating almost.

Love Colt, but how is he not in your “almost” category?

Yes. Or fumble and create a scoop and score opportunity. You tell me which outcome is worse

Because Garrett Gilbert played

Honestly think this board’s reaction would be 10x worse if he throws it away

I’m pretty sure a throwaway wouldn’t be as bad as a scoop and score.
Also, why do I care what a message boards reaction would be? I care about what the right football play would be. The right football play was to eat the ball and not risk what happened

Good luck Quinn. I honestly think that initial injury vs Bama fucked his velocity up and he was never the same. His pocket presence and processing better improve or he’ll be out the NFL within a few years.

And straight up tackling Sawyer wouldn’t be as bad as letting him go untouched to the QB. Maybe the refs would have even let it slide.

Sure. Not sure what your point is.

One potential thing that could happen is your QB avoids the outside rusher similar to how Bryce Young did to us 2 years ago to extend the play. Then everyone would flow right and it’s just hitting a crosser. But that may be too much to ask for

Quinn's read progression is never quick enough and he seems to look to the wrong part of the field too often. Doesn't have a great feel of how the play will develop and where to look. You are right, the left is way too congested. He also has poor pocket presence of when the pressure is bearing down and you need to make a decision.

There was plays early on, where we had a guy wide open down field and Quinn didn't see him at all. Maybe the first drive where we were driving to open the game? Would have been an easy TD.

The right football play would also include getting at least a hand on their elite pass rusher.

Watts is big for a DB, but he isn’t Jack Sawyer. Even Bryce Young likely gets flattened there.

And the offensive lineman missed a block. Shit happens. Multiple players can screw up on the same play. It is possible.  What does that have to with Quinn fumbling the football?

No one is blaming Quinn for a missed block. I’m blaming him for his response to that situation. His job is to respond, he responded poorly and made the worst possible play. Understand the pressure, and make the smart play.

nah, given the complete failure by Williams he had 2 options throw it away or take the sack.  you just can't have a complete failure like that on the OL.

this is where having a mobile QB might have helped bail us out but it is what it is.

The guy was on him in less than 3 seconds.  If he had gotten the throw off you'd be blowing him in perpetuity.  He was trying to make a play in a dire situation.  Eating it would have likely ended the game, too.

Yea I would. If my aunt had a dick…But he didn’t. He needed to understand that he couldn’t get the throw off and trying to risked ending the game right then and there. Eating it means they have the ball backed up in their own territory against our defense and we have timeouts. The worst thing he could do is turn the ball over. He did the worst thing. Sometimes your job at QB is to limit damage. That’s a concept that Quinn has never shown he understands.
The missed block is irrelevant to what Quinn should have done after. His job is to respond. He didn’t.

You have the benefit of hindsight.  He's trying to win the game.  You and the other armchair coaches seem to think you understand what's going on in live fire, and you quite surely don't.

Whatever, I've said it before -- I hate our fanbase.  It's truly embarassing.

Yes no one on this website has ever been in pressure situations in sports. No one can possibly understand how to react in those situations.

This just isn’t that hard dude. Don’t fucking turn the ball over. Protect the ball. That’s it. It’s not like this is the first time he didn’t understand that concept.

I’ve been in plenty of high pressure situations in high level sports. So have plenty of other posters here.
That doesn’t mean anyone here would make the right play. But we aren’t the starting quarterback at Texas. So yea, he should do better than message board posters might.

You seem to want to fight about it for some reason when all I’m asking is for a 3rd year starter to understand when to protect the ball. That’s it. Don’t turn the ball over. Period.

Thanks I try. I guess instead of protecting the ball the better play was to give up a strip sack for a TD.  Crazy stuff to think a quarterback should understand to not turn the ball over.
Is that yalls best argument? I couldn’t do it so I can’t  say Quinn should. I promise if you pay me millions of dollars to play quarterback at Texas I’ll only fumble it because I’m a bitch, not because I am trying to do something stupid.

He handled it poorly, as many people would. That’s why very few are chosen to play Qb at Texas. We shouldn’t expect them to have the reactions of internet message board has beens

Is your contention Tom Brady never made mistakes? I bet if you asked him he’d say he should have protected the football. That’s even ignoring the field position difference in the two plays.

Did Quinn make a mistake on that play or not? That’s the argument you’re attempting to have.

@jimmyjazz imagine if before the play Quinn and Sark can talk through all possible scenarios of what would happen. What do you think the last thing the coach would say is? I bet it’s something like “no matter what, don’t turn the ball over. If we get stopped our defense can get us the ball back.”

You can be a dickhead all you want but there’s one thing that is the worst outcome and Quinn did that one thing.

What?  Of course not.  My point is that even the best QBs can fail in that moment.

Field position means nothing -- the Patriots were down late in the 4th quarter in the fucking SUPER BOWL and Tom Brady took a strip sack.

My point is that it happens and you girls seem to think Quinn is unique in this regard.  ("Regard" being the operative word here.)  He thought he could get the pass off, he overestimated his ability in that moment.  Wah.  It happens.  Lighten the fuck up and be grateful that we're solidifying our status in the top 4 of college football.

I can appreciate some good, honest diplomacy.  I play favorites but generally lean towards not running players down.

And I too like John Wayne.

Yes they can fail in that moment and Quinn failed. So why are you pretending he didn’t?

You’re being an intentionally obtuse asshole instead seeing the clear point being made. The right play is the right play. He made the wrong one. No one thinks it’s unique to Quinn, but that doesn’t mean we pretend that he didn’t fuck up.

Instead of doing this stupid ass “oh you just don’t get it” thing you could have just said, yea he made a bad play and moved on. Shit maybe bads not even the right word. But he made the wrong play for sure.

he could have just lobbed it up in the EZ towards Helm and the other receiver as a last resort to give someone a chance but given how fast the DE got there.

I'm not pretending he didn't fail in the sense that he didn't protect the ball.  I'm saying it's not particularly unusual and that he had help in that play breaking down.  And, ultimately, I want my QB thinking he can make the play rather than one who turns turtle and doesn't even try.  We are talking a very thin line here.

What? That’s your interpretation of what I’m saying? Ok then. I’m saying inside the ten yard line, simply taking the sack means we still have a chance. Brady didn’t have that same luxury.
The Super Bowl vs the CFP is completely irrelevant. The Super Bowl is more important to Tom Brady and the CFP is more important to Quinn.
Im saying you’re an asshole because instead of having the actual discussion you resorted to some “oh you guys just can’t understand” thing.
