I think we’re going to find out that the xenomorphs have some auditory way of communicating that she’s able to hear.  Just don’t ask me why her and not the other synths.

It was always populated that they can use some form echolocation since they click and his.

We’ve had games and canon comics both show that they have heightened pheromone senses to track prey and their dome skull can detect electrical “aura” of prey and synths.

In the games they electroreception like sharks… whcih if applied to this show and Wendy… could cause interference that she was detecting

This reminds me, I never played Alien Isolation. Got it free withinin the last few years and it's been sitting in one of my PC game libraries. Been meaning to check it out.

Regarding the annoying teen banter: do none of you have kids? That’s how they talk.

Also: so no one noticed Wendy walk into the lab, have some sort of an episode, and keel over? Not very impressive super-beings.

Security cyborg continues to be the most interesting plot line. Did I miss how he’s able to communicate with the Indian kid?

He implanted that small “transmitter” on Slightly’s neck. It was pretty quick.

Didn't it spit out one of the other aliens, maybe the blood sucker?

Nope, we don’t know yet.  Clearly they have held it back for a big reveal.

Something that happened behind the closed bulkhead we didn’t see. I hope they to back to that and don’t cheap out on us never seeing her fight the Xeno

She started leaking from her head, so perhaps something got into her brain

She was hearing it prior to the fight with the Xenomorph.

My favorite line in Episode 3 was "Look with your eyes". Olyphant delivered that line so perfectly, like an annoyed father.

I actually really like the adult actors portraying children angle, a lot. It's unique and has some interesting side plots already brewing. Sydney Chandler is doing a remarkable job of the rebellious tweenager and it fits the Peter Pan script well. Nibs is interesting as he was the bravest in Peter Pan, and it's been polar opposite so far. The actess Lily Newmark playing her is 31! Holy shit, I'm old.

Also, there was a line about her being able to hear certain frequencies in I think episode 1. Clearly she has more capabilities than the rest.

I’m really interested in what Hawley plans to do with him, because you don’t cast Olyphant to play 2nd lead and then make a heel turn when that’s already been done twice in previous Alien films.

Agreed on all counts. They are absolutely foreshadowing, a lot, some resentment and frustrations with Kirsh. I'd love to see him go full turncoat evil. Mostly cause I'd watch Olyphant twiddling his thumbs but also, I think he'll make a better foil for rich, brilliant, narcissistic child boss of Prodigy.

Episode 2 has me very confused.

Spoiler

So a space ship from a rival corporation crashes into a big apartment.  Search and rescue goes out.  Our team is 5-7 soldiers and...one...medic.  A civilian.

They get in and just kinda wander around.  I've never done search and rescue in a major disaster, but it seems like teams would fan out in a well-planned way.  They'd find injured people, triage, and arrange their evac.  They kinda started out doing that, then just quit.  Decided to just explore.

It seems alien invasive species are a known thing in this universe, as they're only so freaked out by the eyeballs and aquariums and such.  And totally unconcerned about containing them.

They get to a presumably-higher floor and find some rich people having a party.  Alien shows up and kills a buncha people.  Ship survivor knocks out the alien, and our now-alone medic.  Just leaves him there.

Rest of the show is medic guy and the lost boys just kinda walking around.

Episode 3 better be better.

Tom Cruise What GIF

Btw, this show fucks. So obviously, WY wins the cyborg/synth/hybrid battle, but the hybrid line has me intrigued.

Agreed. They led with that, so they better lean into it.
Has there been a cyborg in any of the other movies? That dude kicks ass

No, not in canon. There was the Hyperdine corporation had synthetic prosthetics but we never saw it.

The non-canon alien vs predator vs terminator further had Hyberdine cyborgs obviously…

That sheep thing was the grossest thing I’ve ever seen in my life

but very interested in more lore on The Five

I know he’s the villain but the boy genius is awful to watch. I hate every scene he’s in.

Is it any wonder it’s the redhead that went crazy?

At this point I would be happy if they just focused on WT android trying to get the monster aliens back. The idea that the xenomorph doesn’t attack androids doesn’t make sense either: remember what happened to Bishop?

I swear Tarantino must be a guest director, because I am sick and tired of this dude's feet.

Also Boy Genius ain't as smart as he thinks he is, because he misquoted Clarke's Third Law as Asimov re: magic and technology

I caught that too, and as a nerd it annoyed me.

It had to be intentional, because Noah Hawley wouldn’t miss that. I guessing he’s not the genius he’s made out to be

We asked Hawley about his inspiration for the creature and the sequence.

“It’s one of the more disturbing things you’ll watch all year, I think,” he says of the sheep attack. “Every 5 percent improvement in visual effects made that sequence a 100 percent ‘worse’ in terms of its effectiveness — and by ‘worse,’ I mean better. I told director Ugla Hauksdóttir in London, ‘For me, the fact that you got the live sheep to back away from the camera [in seeming fear of The Eye], that made the whole sequence right. Because if that had been a CG sheep, there’s something about sheep — being like — us going ‘uh-huh!’ and backing away from camera really sold the gag.”

“To me, there’s a relentlessness to this that is similar to the face hugger,” he says. “Certainly in James Cameron’s movie [Aliens] where Ripley [Sigourney Weaver] and Newt [Rebecca Jorden] are trying to get away from these things, and they just keep coming, and they’re fast, and they’re scrambling, and they’re spider like a crab. [The suckers] was a really great upgrade for the original conceit where before, it just had to run as fast as it could at you. Now it can fly. And here in Austin, we have the Palmetto bugs fly. A giant roach that flies is always worse than a giant roach that doesn’t. So the fact that it can propel itself, that it can stick to you, and you’re basically trying to fight it off, and it has all these arms and it’s relentlessly trying to get in.”
