Age limits for elected officials? (Term Limit Alternative)

Just throwing this out there, possible alternative to term limits:

We have minimum ages to hold office.  And we have an age that we, as a society, have decided is old enough that we pay social security and medicare so those people can retire.  Why don't we have a maximum age, after which you can no longer run for office?  Not for appointments or other positions, and no one is forced out of a current term; just a maximum age after which you can no longer appear on a ballot.  Let's say it's 70 (or maybe we set it to float SS age + 5 or something).

That gives someone 52 years to run for most offices, and 35 years to run for President.  And it's not without precedent:  For example, Colorado Constitution, Article IV, Section 23(1) requires judges to retire at age 72.

The other plus is we'd have a set date where we know all the boomers are no longer eligible to run for office.  Just saying.

Anyway, discuss.

Or the voters could decide when someone is too old

I'd rather age limits for serving on the judiciary. Lifetime appointments shouldn't mean "92 and unable to stay awake 25 minutes after Matlock ends"

Kill everyone at 70 and turn them into nutrient paste

[edit]

gonna get banned again by bob who will take this as a death threat against old people lol

Just raise unwanted kids as veal. Hell, teens even, not like they're using their muscles.

No to either age limits or term limits. Limitations on individual political speech, and a vote is as basic as it gets as political speech, are a terrible idea.

I don’t necessarily disagree but the only alternative is serious campaign finance reform.  Incumbents have way too much advantage in the current system.

We already have some age limits.  This is just one more.
