I’ve watched this sport religiously for over 30 years and this might be the most inexplicable team I’ve ever followed.

If you'd told me in late March that this would be our record on 6/19, I'd have said some veteran arm came back ahead of schedule, the rest of the staff stayed healthy and Christian Walker was  looking like the signing of the year for all of MLB.

Only assholes look at the standings this early.

So anyway, we're half a game ahead of the Yankees but seem very unlikely to get our dicks sucked by any national writers this week.
Not sure how much of a "journalist" you want to call Ben Verlander but he is still on board.

What if I told you, in April, that y'all some hoes?

Same shit every March/April. Hoes crying about bats and batting coaches. Hoes crying about bullpen and pitching coaches. Hoes crying about Lance McCullers, Jr. Hoes crying about the Manager. Me crying about hoes.

Then Summer ball rolls around and I make another post just like this post about you hoes being hoes in early spring.

It seems to be working, so keep it going, hoes.

Smith is #3 in rookie WAR and he's not even seriously considered for ROY.

2 aces and a lock  down bullpen have always played pretty well…

Yesterday marked the one year anniversary of Seattle's high-water mark in the AL West standings with a 10 gm lead over the Astros. That Astros team was seven games under .500 at 33-40 after getting shut out on 7 hits vs the White Sox scoring twice with two hits.

This season doesn't even compare to last year and last year's team didn't get to .500 until June 26th.

True, or Ben is trying to keep the lines of communication open for when the Giants release Justin in hope that Bagwell will lock Dana in a closet somewhere and Crane brings Verlander back for one more run for old, old, old times sake.

The last 3 seasons the Astros were like 2-25 in extra inning games. (At least it felt that way)

Glad our fortunes are finally turning around in extras

young blood and big balls turns that record around

Funny how when you bring in a group of new people who don't know any better it can dramatically change the expectations and attitude of a group.

The league crushed HOU's development  process and front office 5 years ago. Why does this shit keep happening?

And I’d counter with King, Ort, Okert, Dubin and Sousa being a part of a “lock down bullpen” is pretty inexplicable!

Unexpected.
I was more going with the thought that it's hard to explain how the Astros are winning when it's really not.  They are an average offensive team and a great pitching team.  Now- did I expect those guys to be awesome?  Nope. But they have been.  And that's the deal.

As far as unexpected man- when I wrote the blog about how we got where we were at in the bullpen and every guys journey?  Yeah, man, it's insane. But that's usually what bullpens are like, right?  Up and down and who knows from year to the next with most relievers.  Dana has captured lightning in a  bottle so far.  And with that I will knock on all the wood.

This years .540 OPS would put him just behind Brendan Rodgers.

I remember when Maldy had a shocking run of abject averageness to start the year and Yainer looked like the Monstars had stolen his talent some of the old dipshits in Astros fandom that were ride or die for Dusty b/c "reasons" were like see- Dusty was right! It's amazing that water finds it's level and things are back to normal. I expect Maldy gets released at some point in time- if that's the best San Diego can do we should call them up about Caratini at the deadline.

At any rate- it's amazing to me that the Astros have the 3rd fewest runs allowed this year after being something like 5th last year, and basically only worse than teams in extreme pitchers parks when Maldy was responsible for all the pitchers prowess, not the pitchers, not the coaches, not Yainer, nope- just Maldy.

Really fucking weird man.  I am gobsmacked that the organization somehow managed to muddle along without that arrogant cunt.

There is no pitching analystics team. It's all the ghost of Maldonado and his left over essence pulling them through. Should wear off anyday now.

Yes- I chose violence today.

You do realize you have opened yourself up to the vengeance of the boards Maldy loyalist.

I agree with you and find it a bit amusing.
