One of my favorite Yellowstone idiot deaths:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Colin_Scott#:~:text=On June 7%2C 2016%2C Colin,spring in Yellowstone National Park.

On June 7, 2016, Colin Nathaniel Scott, a 23-year-old American man from Portland, Oregon, died after falling into a thermal hot spring in Yellowstone National Park. The incident occurred in the Norris Geyser Basin, an area known for its geothermal features, including acidic and high-temperature hot springs. Scott and his sister, Sable Scott, had deviated from the designated boardwalk area and entered a restricted section of the park. Reports indicate that they intended to partake in "hot potting," the prohibited activity of bathing in Yellowstone's thermal pools.

When park officials arrived at the scene, they initially found partial remains, including Scott's head, upper torso, and hands.[1] However, the extreme heat of the spring, which had reached 100 °C (212 °F), along with an incoming lightning storm, prevented immediate recovery. By the following day, the acidic water had dissolved his body, leaving only a few personal belongings, such as his wallet and flip-flops.

Boiled to death in acid. What a way to go.

You'd love this book.  So many examples of death by misadventure.  I love that coroners call it that because "death by your own stupidity" is just too undignified.

But I need my tuba and these pants I haven't worn since Obama was president and 77 pairs of underwear and I need casual shoes, nice shoes, walking shoes, coffee shop shoes, museum shoes and house shoes!

Pretty much.  My son is easy.  The wife/daughter had a magnitude of shit that I've been whittling down over the years.  Hair dryer, curling irons, bag and bags of makeup.  And endless stream of fucking shoes.  We did get a smaller, more expensive hair dryer that they share.  They can buy or share makeup....that was a concession so they get to shop when they get there.  And if course hotels with the ability to do laundry is a must.  We don't ski much anymore, but that was the absolute worst.  At least we rented equipment, but fuck me it was a beating.  Why do I need a dozen different outfits to sit and drink at the lodge!

47 years old, lulz. they should have left him there as a warning to others to stay the fuck off the fences

As soon as I saw this story I sent it to my wife's cousin (no pics), because ... she was drunk af one night after partying in Austin 20+ years ago. When the partying ended, she and her friends returned to her apartment complex only to find the gate broken. Couldn't get the car in. No problem. They parked the car and started climbing the fence to get to her apt. In her drunk-af-ness, she slipped after getting one leg over the fence, managing to impale herself on one of those spikes, with - get this - the spike entering through the back of her knee and exiting the front. And there she was stuck like that until Fire and EMS showed up. 100% true csb.

There's also this one, from the Grand Canyon:

We went a couple of years ago, during the heart of the pandemic.  Winter, snow, icy conditions.  It was beautiful, but we also talked a lot about how hazardous many of the places were.  Daughter found the book in the gift shop, bought it, and then proceeded to read all the stories aloud to us in the car.

Does it say terrible things about our family that we laughed at several of them?

We were there the last week of December 2020.  Same conditions.  All I could envision is one of my kids or wife (no pics) falling off a cliff.

Yep, we were there right after you -- we had New Year's eve dinner in Flagstaff, and were in the park by that night.  It really was a great trip, and an amazing time to be there.  But yeah, the icy trails next to a bazillion foot drop were a tad unnerving.

Every married man has had that fantasy at least once.

The day its not okay to laugh at stupidity is the day that comedy is dead and the world can burn as far as I'm concerned.
