He definitely slipped on a potential TD versus Georgia.

It takes him like ~5 yards to get his feet and then he’s really hard to bring down when he hits his stride. But for those initial 5 yards, it feels like he goes down at any contact (even with blades of grass…). His balance is super funky.

I see we are doing this thing where we mind erase everything before MSU game.  Wingo and Manning both played their part in our sputtering offense.  Let’s hope they continue to gel and take it to a higher level next year.

I don't think Wingo had at least 558 yards in drops.

When you account for drops that led directly to punts there were a lot of potential yards (and points) lost on drives that ended in addition to the actual lost yards from those specific plays. Obviously impossible to say just how many though.

That said, talk of letting Wingo walk is fucking stupid. I’m going to guess most of the same people saying that also wanted Worthy gone after his Sophomore year

Let's not compare Wingo and Worthy.  No one wanted Worthy gone bc of his play.  It was his social media BS and constant threat of transferring that had fans sour on him.

Wingo is all potential and extremely inconsistent.   He has dropped too many passes in crucial games in crucial moments.  He is soft fighting DBs and rarely fights for the ball making contested catches.  His route running is poor.  He is fast, that is is elite trait.  I'm not saying I want Wingo gone but I would not be happy if he's our WR1 going into next year.  We need consistency and a guy that we can turn to when the game is on the line.  AD Mitchell made game winning plays.  Golden made game winning plays.  If it's 4th and 15, how confident are you that Wingo makes the play?  Given that next year is the year before we rebuild again in 2027 on the O-line, QB, and defense, we need guys at WR, RB, and TE that can help us win a title.

Agree although Wingo could still become that guy. He really only has one year of starting under his belt and missed a lot of the offseason.

His thread title on the football board was titled “Big Drop Zay” at a certain point. That thread is full of people saying he couldn’t catch and was too lazy and uncoordinated to track deep balls.

this is a good point.

Maybe he's a late bloomer and with a full year and off-season under his belt (hopefully he goes through a full off-season with that surgery he is scheduled to have) he can be what we all think.

Yes, I remember Worthy having drops, he also played with a broken hand.  Even then, he did not have anywhere near the drops Wingo had.  Comparing them is dumb.  Worthy hit damn near 1000 yards with freshman year, 800 his soph year, and had a solid Jr year with all the talent on that team (AD, and JWhit).  He made big plays in big games against Bama, ou, etc.  He's also been a starter on a playoff team his 1st and 2nd year in the NFL.  Wingo is not that.  The aggy game is the 1st time I remember Wingo making a big time play against a top 10 opponent?  I'd prefer not to put all our eggs in his basket and get a proven WR in the portal.  I also want to clarify, I want Wingo on the team, but not as WR 1.    DM Jr can get fucked in the portal.  Dude had 1 Td until the Arkansas game.

My mistake, I didn't consider Vandy a big game.  I'd like to see that type of play against tOSU, UGA, ou's DBs.  While great on offense, their defense isn't their strength.  Luckily he was able to high point a pass from Arch with no one within 20 yards of him against aggy.  When I see him mossing UGA's DBs like Golden, I'll consider him a WR1.  Those are the types of WRs we need for next year.

Why can't we compare Wingo and Worthy? They had similar numbers and both had their struggles. The biggest difference was expectations. Worthy played with Bijan, RoJo, Whittington, and Sanders as a sophomore. He didn't have to be Superman because Bijan had that role locked up. Everyone wanted Wingo to be Jeremiah Smith, but they got second year Worthy instead.

Now do his QBs….hes no where close to worthy as a receiver he doesn’t do any of the things that made worthy a great receiver. You morons have to stop looking at stat columns

Okay lets compare for fun.

Worthy:

Freshman- 62 rec, 981 yards, 12 TDs

Sophomore (broken hand)-  60 rec, 760 yards, 9 TDs, 1 passing TD

Junior- 75 rec, 1014 yards, 5 TDs, 1 punt ret TD

Wingo:

Freshman-  25 rec, 472, 2 TDs

Sophomore-  50 rec, 770 yards, 7 TDs

Draw your own conclusions.

FWIW - You are overrating Worthy’s injury.  It occurred in late October and was less serious than Wingo’s thumb injury.

To be clear, the comparison is they are WRs with elite traits that will (or did) play a big part in Texas being good during their Junior years.

Me bringing up Worthy wasn’t to say they are the same or equal players, but that the reaction to their disappointing SO years led to the same dumb overreaction from our large portion of this message board that maybe we would be better off allocating that money elsewhere.

Lulz. I'm absolutely positive if we went back to your history after Worthy's sophomore year, you had somewhere between 10 to 8000 posts about how over rated he was.

My biggest complaints about Worthy were deep ball tracking.

Wingo is more Eagles than he is Worthy

The talk of wanting Wingo gone is idiocy.

I want them all whipped across the eyes. I refuse to believe stupidity is this prevalent. Some sinister group across the Atlantic created an army of bots that only flood sports message boards with idiotic takes. Their only goal is to slightly agitate the American public.

Am I crazy for thinking Penn St is going to have the best transfer portal class in the history of the sport once they hire a coach because they only signed 2 kids in this class?!

You younglings probably will not remember a boxer named Roberto Duran. For most of his career, he was a bad ass, fought anyone, anytime. His nickname was, "Manos de Piedras." ... Hands of Stone.

Looking at Wingo, it sure seems like the moniker fits.

There are ways of working on hands of stone, both through physical drills and mental exercises.

Hell yes, he needs to be back in burnt orange next year.

That's going to be a bread-y transition class

Wingo had a full year as starter with a first time starting qb who had yips with a wtf offense.  An offseason to improve and he still commands attention on the field.  Without him we have Parker Livingston and that’s it.

What surgery is he having?

Did longhorn media mention after the Georgia game he was probably vs Arky due to an undisclosed injury??

They said he may require surgery to which he put off until the off-season??

Even if you don’t get the reference, is the absurdity of the statement plus the /katfid really not setting off any alarm bells?

When Sark was at his best, and Texas had its best offenses or even further back into his Alabama season he had #1 and #2 who complimented each other an explosive + Route runner that was consistent:

2023

Worthy (explosive) + Mitchell (Route runner + consistent)

2024

Bond (explosive) + Golden (Route Runner + consistent)

Now in those two years we got lucky cause both of our consistent WR were just as fast and could also make explosive plays.

I do believe this year Sark thought going in that Wingo (explosive) + Mosley (Consistent -RR) would give him this combo but unfortunately Wingo missed most of Spring and was inconsistent and Mosley was out most of camp and the beginning of the season after transferring in.  They both showed flashes of those traits, but it wasn't consistent.

He didn't mention WR today at the conference, but I would hope he at least adds one rather high school or portal.  I just feel like you have to surround Arch with weapons, and maybe Wingo and Mosley do become that, but do you leave it up to chance? I would hope not

I don't know why people skip over Livingstone -- a 6'4" freshman with speed who's a baller and can fucking catch. He's a much better Limas Sweed IMO.
