Surly Peeps.....I'll be in Houston for a family event and I need to find some food rec's for myself. I'm stying at the Zaza Museum District and these all appear to be walking distance.

https://bodegastacoshop.com/menu : any good?

saw these BBQ joints:

https://www.citadelbbq.com/menu

https://www.brookstreetbbq.com/dine-in-takeout-menu/

https://thepitroombbq.com/main/

I may also hit up Trill Burger

Do you have a car? For the love of god dont go to Citadel bbq (they boil their shit) or brookstreet (trash)

If you are stay at Zaza and dont mind walking Le Jardinier is one of the best restaurants in the city and close. Lucilles is great, as is Mo Betta Brews for veggy options. MF sushi also fantastic

Pit Room is good (my personal favorite in town), Brookstreet is not.

Never heard of Citadel

Would be a pretty walk through South Hampton.  Take a walk down South Blvd for pic opps with the trees/ mansions etc..

Zaza has complimentary car service within a 3 mile radius.  Also, there is a rail station right by the hotel as well, just don't ride it late at night unless you enjoy the company of drunk homeless people.

As others have mentioned, MF Sushi, Le Jardinier and Lucille’s are the play within walking distance of the Zaza. Use Zaza’s house car to venture over to Montrose or Rice Village for more options. I lived at the Zaza for nearly a year while I was commuting from Arizona and, I can’t stress this enough, do not bother eating in their hotel restaurant.

what about this Granger joint? https://grangershouston.com/

It’s new-ish. Haven’t been and don’t know anyone who has so I can speak to it. It could be great, but I’ve avoided it just based on the fact that everything that has been in that space has failed. I realize that’s not a rational reason to avoid trying a place.

Pitt Room has pretty good BBQ. Candente and Toasted Coconut are close by as well.

Candente is great. You just have to be prepared to smell like a campfire when you leave. The ventilation on their live-fire grill is atrocious.

Every meal I’ve had at Le Jardinier has been fantastic. It’s one of my go-to places to take people in from out of town and people always rave about it. That said, I have a friend that I have a standing weekly lunch with and we agree on restaurants 99.9% of the time and Le Jardinier is the one outlier for her.

Unpopular opinion: I think Kata is overrated.

I like it just fine. They were very good to me when I stayed there nearly 200 nights in a single year.

Doko, the new sushi place at Autry Park from the Handies Douzo and Kokoro guys, has what looks like a great lunch deal. We’re going to check it out either this week or next.

Pit room is good. I don’t know of citadel or bodega. Brookstreet isn’t very good. There’s also Loro on Kirby, which I haven’t been to but I think Aaron Franklin is involved with that.

Feels like it’s been covered pretty well but avoid the bbq you listed, just uber to truth or Pinkertons if you don’t have a car and want great bbq. Pit room is good but Pinkertons/Truth are great, IMO. Betelgeuse Betelgeuse is nearby and although I haven’t been I hear they have good pizza.

1. i've never had a bad meal at pit room, it's a houston top 3 for me

2. betelgeuse has good pizza, but haven't been in a several months

Seconded on Lucille’s.

I would unfriend whomever gave you those bbq recommendations. If you’re carless, Pinkerton’s and Truth will require an Uber.

I’d take full advantage of the car service. You should be able to go most places in the Montrose, West U/Rice Village/Museum District. Clark’s is a really nice/cozy dining room for oysters. Women seem to love the place.

Hermann Park is very underrated. It’s the best park in Houston by a fairly large margin in my opinion. If you catch some nice it’s worth a long stroll.
