That Weezer sketch feels like it was ripped from my brain. Team Leslie all the way. I was obsessed with Weezer in junior high. Their first two records still hold up. I used to keep a blank space in my CD book for album #3. But I never even got around to buying it. It's probably not even that bad, but they were never the same after Matt Sharp left.

Random funny story - a guy I worked with ran into the bassist at a grocery store in the early/mid aughts. He said something like, "dude, I love your first few albums!" And the bassist was like, "yeah we kinda suck now, huh."

we had a version of this where ztejas and I argued over who was a better band between Weezer and Jimmy Eat World. Although I don't think we actually disagreed that much and it's kinda the reverse of my stance in the foo fighters/killers thread. Weezer is clearly more culturally significant and a bigger band, just they basically suck (I actually like Weezer enough, but an identical band that sounded identical would be just absolute trash) and Jimmy Eat World's run from Static Prevails through Chase This Light is incredible.

I knew a girl in LA that was roommates with Jimmy Eat World. She bartended at Barneys Beanery. They were essentially on tour that whole time so I never met them but she said they were pretty awesome guys.

JEW, Emo's outdoor stage, fall 2000. Wild, epic show. Sweetness during the encore was magic.

I actually didn't know that much about Weezer before starting this thread-- just the blue album from an eternity ago. Their Tiny Desk I just saw the other day was awesome. I did just recently learn that apparently the song on Pinkerton (and played below) "Across the Sea" almost or temporarily got him a ton of backlash for being a creep. The song is gas tho.
