I got to watch the texas clips every play earlier.

I didn't get to watch the game.

Observations:

Our defense is bad ass.

Our special teams are better than last year. Bench #24 please (should have been done last year).

Some of the penalties called on us were bullshit.

I like #31 on offense. I also like 227 rushing yards.

Arch played much better in the 2nd half, but with the field position the punt return team/interceptions gave the offense, it should have been like 45-10.

I believe this team is gonna be really good shortly.

Sunshine pumpers untie.

I figured it out.

Sark is saving Caldwell for OU

Sark has intentionally kept the playbook vanilla until we play Sam Houston State.

I think stacking the box would be a major mistake. OSU went mostly light boxes and dared Texas to bet them running the football. If UTEP didnt feel the need to stack the box, why would anyone else? The only thing Arch has done at a reasonable level is run the ball and throw deep. No need to open yourself up to explosive plays. I would say the same for blitzing. Why give Arch easy reads or open yourself up for him to scramble, while your DBs have their backs turned in man coverage.

PK would destroy this offense. Just take away explosives and force them to execute 8-10 play scoring drives. You can always adjust if out of the blue the offense finds a running game or a consistent short passing game.

Maybe that is why they look so unpracticed. Our defense blows everything up, so they never get a chance to really practice.

(only mostly not serious)

Vanilla? We ran about every goddamn run concept in existence last weekend. Counter, read, read counter, outside zone, inside zone, QB Power, etc. We sucked at most of it too.

Was watching the game with my dad and recall us picking up a 4th down running play with some misdirection and saying “I bet Sark wasn’t planning on busting that out against UTEP.”

I think Sark has been doing a delicate dance between going vanilla, holding guys out, and trying to do only basic shit while avoiding catastrophe and he’s really walking the edge thus far this season.

I don’t think he’s doing a great job because it looks like shit. Not sure how much to be down on him for it because no one could’ve predicted Arch would suck this badly.

I think this is a lesson in making sure a QB earns the role of QB1 in a true competition.  The process itself requires mental toughness which would filter out the weak ones.  Don't want to see a promised role for QB1 again.

I have no doubt Arch looks good in practice. This is some mental shit. Most of his bad throws seem to be a factor of him not trusting his reads and hesitating. Then he's a step behind and rushes the throw with shit mechanics. He moves well in the pocket and is getting time to make plays. Just has to trust his read and let it fly on the correct timing.

The run game was winning the game...and the Texas passing game lost it, along with Sark. I've seen slightly differing stats, but the number are roughly this, teams who outrush their opponents win 70% - 80% of the time. Teams that make the CFB playoff win 96% of their games when outrushing their opponents.

Texas more than doubled the rushing total of Ohio State.

It takes a magical stew of QB fuckups and coaching malpractice to find a way to lose under those circumstances.

The fact is the run game scored 0 pts. I watched CSU run for 118 yards vs Texas. People worried about the run defense last year, despite it being a 52-0 game. UTSA rushed for 128 in a 56-7 game. The worries persisted. Its like people have not watched the Texas defense. They are going to run light boxes and may give up some rush yardage, but you are not going to get explosives. They are going to focus on taking away the passing game. It was the same with OSU. If that run game was indictive of the Texas running game, do you really think Texas would struggle to run consistently vs UTEP and SJSU? For the run game to be effective you need to convert critical in situations, avoid negative plays, and usually hit explosives. IF you are not, it is no different than watching a QB rack up yards throwing underneath and failing in the redzone.
