Have to beat the top teams eventually.

Exactly. And we’d be the highest ranked two loss team because of OSU. That’s where the benefit of playing that game comes into play.

They’ll rank Duke over James Madison if Duke wins. The G5 isn’t getting two teams in.

At this point they’d have to knock out ND for Texas to get in (that lets them avoid the Miami/ND controversy). Or they have to knock out Bama or OU but also keep Miami out.  Neither scenario looks possible.

I didn't think we were going to the playoffs once we lost to Georgia but it was fun to indulge in hopium for a bit there.

But it's definitely over now...right?

When they are meeting to discuss the format for the CFP going forward, it seems prudent to install some kind of ranking threshold to get an automatic bid as conference champion. Similar to what used to exist for G5 teams to qualify for a BCS/NY6 bowl game.

I like highest ranked from 4-5 conferences. Conference championships matter a little less but can still be a final differentiator

2024- SMU gets in over Clemson.

2025- Miami over Duke/uva

So Alabama is being punished for Florida St then?

we are being punished for having 3 losses. you cant say we are not being punished for the Ohio St loss. We most certainly are because if we weren't, we'd have the best resume of any 2 loss team.

I don’t understand why people don’t get this.  It’s not who you lost too. They don’t give a shit.  Or who you best.

only the 0-1-2-3 in the loss column.

Florida hurts as much as Georgia and OSU hurt.

the simple fact is we shouldn’t play OSU if their is no incentive.   Beating them means as much as beating Purdue in the playoff rankings.  Not perception, but that’s not how they decide they decide the rankings.

Nice to see that the committee is taking the newfound attention to strength of schedule they announced before the season started seriously.

Of course not. It’s always losses. Easiest way to pretend they had no choice.

Been saying this over and over. If you want to lose to a terrible team like that, then find a way to split Georgia and Ohio State and we are easily in for the 3rd year in a row. Being 0-5 against Georgia and Ohio State in the past 13 months is a problem.

We can game the system and schedule junk OOC but at some point, we have to find a way to beat good teams if we ever want to win another national championship.

So don’t play OSU?  You don’t need to and there’s no reason to.

that’s the bottom line.

you act like a 3 point loss to OU or Aggie instead of Florida has us in the playoffs?

of course not. They’re out with 3 losses.

Or we just fucking beat all of the shitty teams and not worry about it. We should not have lost to Florida. Consistent teams don't lose those kinds of games.

And it's fucking crazy how far and fast we've come in less than a decade where even a single loss could keep us out of playing for something significant, and now we are debating whether we should be in with 3 wins or not. We should be in if some of those 2-loss teams ahead of us lost today but they didn't.

Yes we can do that…and not schedule a potential loss for no damned reason since it doesn’t help us anymore than beating Purdue would.

ND being in is an absolute joke. The best win they have is vs USC.

The system is broke. The committee is a complete fraud.SOS doesn’t matter or any other metric. H 2 H doesn’t matter.  Scheduling tough OOC games doesn’t benefit anyone.

The only thing that matters is opinions that they have and that changes year to year and week to week.

They look at W/L and that’s more important than anything.

Some want to wave away Ohio State. Some want to wave away Florida. Some seem to ignore that losing badly to Georgia dropped us so far back that it's impossible to climb out without massive amounts of help. It wasn't our year. I can live with that. I still enjoyed beating OU, Vandy, and aggy. I'll enjoy the Cheezit Bowl against Michigan. I'll be annoyed if we're forced to play a spare boring Big 10 team like Iowa. I wouldn't mind seeing USC again.

We are being punished for 3 losses, not who they were to. If we beat Florida and lose to OU we are still on outside looking in. If we beat Ohio State and lose to OU we are on outside looking in.  If we beat Georgia and lose to Mississippi State we are on outside looking in.

As someone upthread suggested, this is locked.  And a two loss BigXII CCG loser isn’t supplanting any of the other 12 unless it’s close and Georgia destroys Alabama.

3 B1G, 5 SEC, ACC, Big XII, Go5, ND = 12.

Look at the pathetic non-conference schedules for top seeds Indiana and Ole Miss.

They don't give a shit about who the wins and losses are against.

You're being incentivized to beat teams you ostensibly should. The first sentence is pure delusion, you're not the 2nd best team besides Ohio State, and you certainly weren't in week 1. You couldn't have just "played anyone but Ohio State and won", your offense was a disaster until like week 8.

Like sure, if you'd have scheduled like Wisconsin or something you probably win, and you're probably 10-2 right now. But you'd be just as 10-2 if you had beaten Florida. Ultimately, accountability rests on your own shoulders.

I guess if you want to be laughed at like whiny ass Alabama last year, keep it up.

Even after all that, I still think Texas is good enough to be in the CFP, but what 10-2 team are you going to kick out for them if you're the committee? Hell, if you really want to place blame, place it on the fact that we allow G5 teams in the CFP at all. That's the real thing fucking you. Not the teams ahead of you that did nothing wrong except win most or all of the games they were supposed to.

My 2 game schedule comment was more through the lens of preseason expectations, where we expect to be a playoff team.  Those are the only two games where we wouldn't easily be favored.

Of course someone would turn out to be the 3rd, 4th, and 5th best teams on our schedule but none of those 3 are particularly good.  ou and vandy are better than anyone else on aggy's schedule I guess but that's just how it turned out.  You said yourself that none of them are actually among the top 10 in the country.

The people complaining about the "not being punished for losing to Ohio State OOC" need to realize that we weren't punished. All season.

After we lost, we were the highest ranked 1 loss team (ahead of Clemson). After we beat OU, we were the highest ranked 2 loss team. After we lost to Georgia, we were the highest ranked 3 loss team.

That's what that means. "Hey we'll move you to the front of the line if you schedule the big boys." It doesn't mean "hey we'll rank you ahead of Ohio State and act like the game never happened."

Kinda disappointed that we're as whiny as South Carolina and Bama were last year.

This is where I was last week but when you stack up OU, BYU, Notre Dame and Miami against Texas the ONLY argument for them is one less loss. You look at the body of work and Texas stands ahead of them as the better team even with one more loss.

Notre Dame for example has zero impressive wins. They are in on “quality of losses” only.

Miami’s losses are fucking embarrassing.

OU won as poorly today as any Texas shitty win and we have head to head.

BYU needs a Jim Mora “playoffs” meme for them they’ve played exactly no one.

Texas is the highest ranked three loss team true, but they are better objectively than at least a third of the at large bids.

We are out of the playoffs because we lost to Florida. Simple as that.  You want to be mad at something? Be pissed our coaching staff and players get their asses kicked by a team who fired their coach two weeks after we played them.

We play Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, USC, etc. non-conference because we're Texas.

We play those schools because we want to associate ourselves with the best because we believe we are one of the best.

We don't schedule those schools because we believe a loss to them technically won't be held against us, and it's just a gentleman's exhibition where everyone gets a medal.

This narrative of its the Florida loss is getting exhausting.

And the narrative too of "well Texas barely beat Miss St and Kentucky". Bama just barely beat a terrible Auburn team. Oklahoma just barely beat a terrible LSU team.

We have 3 losses. That's what we are getting punished for. If we played Minnesota or some other junk team, we would not be getting punished for the Florida loss. No way, not at all. Get this Florida punishment narrative out of here.

It's 100% because we played a top 5 non conference game and that cut into our margin of error. There's no other reason.

I don't want to lose the Ohio State and Michigan return games combined with us looking like bitches if we do it. I do think we should drop Notre Dame and I think other conferences should do the same. The fact that they get an auto-path with 2 losses and Miami might not make it in even though they have a head to head win shows that everyone needs to stop doing Notre Dame the favor of improving their schedule.
