Sucks there were no upsets today but this crying about scheduling good teams like it’s an auto loss is pretty pathetic.  We should expect to field a team that can win every game.  If you’re scared to play OSU during the regular season why even want to go to the playoffs.

Also let’s not pretend we would have automatically beat another team in that first game with the way we’ve played this season.

It isn’t for scheduling toss up OCC games in the future. If the goal is the best 12 teams then pick them, if it’s the best 12 records then say it and let programs adjust their schedules accordingly. Texas should not schedule a toss up when the max number of losses for the playoffs is 1-2 depending on the year and who you lose too. Having 3 possible losses  is a recipe for being left out. Completely relevant

Buddy, we're not here to join some country club and be surrounded by peers. To quote Herm Edwards: "You play to win the game." Right now the game does NOT value tough OOC games. There is no virtue in it.

Alright fine. Take the Indiana path.

Maybe some year we have a stacked team that would beat Ohio State and our QB gets hurt and we drop a couple games. And because we played no one tough, we move to the back of the line of the 10-2 teams. Who knows?

Disagree with that take.

If it's "about making the fucking playoffs" then we made a mistake leaving the Big 12.

And "no benefit win or lose" implies we wouldn't have benefited from beating Ohio State, which is an odd take.

Oh I’ve never disagreed with that.  We all wanted to leave but it’s not becuse we wanted the SEC either.

but we’re here now. Why make our post harder intentionally when there’s really no benefit?  Beating OSU means the same as besting Florida. Both outcomes would have us with a first round home game.

OSU hasnt played a game where they have been outgained. We did. They havent been held under 24 at any point this season, we held them to 14. And they havent won a single game by less than 18, other than against us. We wouldve beaten anyone else in the country in that game.

We will have 9 tough games in conference and tough games in the playoff.

Here's the issue I have when people say this. Ohio State has a 77% win rate at the horseshoe. More often than not, you're going to walk in there and lose that game. Our best team ever fought for their lives to walk out with a three point win (2005 Texas) so this whole "just win" narrative is low key dumb as fuck.

Texas with 2 conference losses will always make a 12-16 team playoff. Even with a joke non conference.  Their commence schedule will be enough.  Look at Aggie. Even if they had 2 losses with a shitty conference schedule they’d be in.

No, it isn't. Lost to Florida only matters insofar as it's one of three losses.

Some people are saying exactly that.  Maybe it isn’t your position.  However the other two losses are an exhibition against a non conference perineal power house opponent that we volunteered for and a perineal powerhouse conference team, both on the road.  Both those teams have consistently ranked high in recruiting and recently won national titles.  No team, except possibly Bama, would be favored to win a game against either team.

Adding an extra conf game and having to play 1 P4 game UT should just set up a permanent game with UCF. Nice place to visit and Sark can go kill himself recruiitng in Florida every other year.

and yes we have to consider that. As much as I’d hate it.

Alabama has a Georgia win, similar resume, is playing for the SEC championship and is stuck at #10. Beating Purdue isn't doing much for this year's squad.

If they want to put us in, they will find a way to do it. Only question is who gets fucked over in the process, and how much blowback there would be. Every P4 champion gets an automatic bid, and the highest-ranked G5 gets an automatic bid. That means a G5 plus either Duke or Virginia will take up a spot. Notre Dame will also take up a spot since they are leading Stanford by 32 points before halftime. That's nine remaining spots.

Ohio State and Indiana are locks, that's seven remaining spots.

Georgia is a lock. That's six remaining spots.

Ole Miss is a lock. That's five remaining spots.

The Big XII champ is a lock. That's four remaining spots.

Texas A&M is a lock. That's three remaining spots.

Oregon is a lock. That's two remaining spots.

Teams whose seasons are over, fighting for those two spots, in no particular order

Oklahoma (2 loss), Vandy (2 loss), Utah (2 loss), Miami (2 loss), Texas (3 loss)

Teams whose seasons aren't yet over, also able to clinch one of those two spots:

Alabama (2 loss - can win SEC auto bid), BYU (1 loss - can win Big XII auto bid), Texas Tech (1 loss - can win Big XII auto bid)

I think Utah is easy to fuck over, so they're out.

I think the ACC is weak as hell, but leaving Miami out is going to be hard to justify.

The harder part is justifying putting Texas over Alabama, Oklahoma, and Vandy, especially when there are already three SEC teams in.

If Georgia beats Alabama, that helps a bit, but there still needs to be a willingness for the CFP to put a 3-loss Texas over 2-loss Vandy and Oklahoma. The head to head helps a lot, but are they willing to take criticism from those fanbases? Vandy is flush with cash, and Oklahoma is a blue blood.

The amount Texas jumps for beating A&M is going to provide a lot of insight into how they are leaning. We need to hope for UVA and Georgia to win out. Texas Tech over BYU, too, although I feel like they won't want to include any 2-loss Big XII team regardless if that loss was in a conference title game. B1G title game doesn't matter much except for determining who has to travel and where to.

I've done more than my fair share of criticizing Sark this season, but I will give him credit for knowing exactly when and how hard to begin lobbying for his team. I hope CDC and the BMDs are doing everything in their power behind the scenes to prevent Arch Manning from having to play in a shitty bowl game.

Who’s saying auto loss?  It’s a “potential” loss.

No one is scared to play them, there is just not incentive too. And even if you lose to them That doesn’t mean you don’t deserve to make the playoffs for another chance to.

and of course you can lose to anyone.  But you’re much less likely to lose to Purdue than OSU and thus shouldn’t take that chance.

They are supposed to vote on that in January right?

This is likely the last year of CCGs for the SEC and BIG. The new format being floated will be that the top 2 get auto bids. The 3rd and 6th place teams play for the 3rd auto bid and the 4th and 5th place team play for the 4th autobid. That takes place on championship weekend instead of CCGs for the BIG and SEC.

Which ones do you want to cancel? The home games against Ohio State and Michigan? The home and away against Notre Dame? Arizona State? That gets us through 2033.

2030 and 2031 only have UTSA and UTEP so far.

Ya, it's a shitty system. And every fan of the game should be fuckin pissed and realize that all schedules aren't created equally and that it's really not far fetched that a 9-3 team with a really hard schedule is better than an 11-1 team with a mediocre schedule. But everyone has this obsession with viewing college football like it's 1985 and the AP voters still run the show. It's dumb as fuck.

But it's Texas' job to put themselves in a position to succeed. And going to war with bluebloods and locking ourselves out while BYU, Texas Tech, and, Indiana coast along is not OK by any measure.

9-3 Texas was never "probably" making the playoffs. We saw last year 9-3 wasn't enough for anyone to get in which included Alabama. It would have taken a miracle for Texas (or any 9-3 at-large team) to get in with the current format.

Aggie for us and Georgia for them.

We lost to Florida and them to FSU.

they beat vandy and so did we.

they loss to OU and we beat OU by double digits.

They didn’t play OSU on top of all that.

our resume is actually better. And I’ll contend if they lose to Georgia, That they should be in danger of falling out with 3 losses.

Thank you.  I was about to post about what cowards everyone is to take the lesson to not schedule difficult out of conference games.  You schedule them in hopes of getting credit for winning them.  You don't schedule them expecting to have no repercussions for losing them.

We only got into the playoff in 2023 because we scheduled and beat Bama.  Obviously they've continued to dilute the field but that same scenario could happen again.  If we had actually beat OSU this year and everything else played out the same, that's a huge feather in our cap as a 2-loss team.  We possibly get as high as the 5 or 6 seed with a very favorable home 1st round playoff game.  If we have a win over Purdue instead we slide down a couple of seeds and have a more difficult path.

Yes, scheduling a tough OOC game is a risk but to act as if there is only downside and no upside is being obtuse.

we don't need credit for winning those OOC games to make the 12 team playoff.  we just need to not lose them.  the committee doesn't look at a win over louisville and michigan really any differently.  the goal is to make the tournament.  we shouldn't schedule Rice but we don't need to schedule ND, OSU, Mich, Miami

we will finish 5th in the SEC over OU and Vandy and one of those teams will be in the tournament and we will not be.

Yes. All of them if the committee is going to treat them as the same losses as Florida.  If you get 2 losses max then they should not be scheduling toss up games.
