Got a teeny tiny parametric EQ in for that mini board.  Gonna have this on to do minor tweaking between guitars.  Scoop the mids, or clean the mud, or dial out the 2k-5k ice pick.  No idea how well it works yet, but I love its size.

How are you liking the EQ? I'm looking for something like that on my pedal steel board.

This little pedalboard plugged straight into a PA has no business sounding as good as it does.

Do you leave the Tonex on all of the time?

So for question 1, I am using the tonex one in dual mode, with basically a green and red setting that I toggle between.  They are the same amp model (60s Vox AC30), but the green is clean and the red is sorta crunchy.  The vast majority of the time I'm on green and using combinations of the blues mood and ratsbane to drive it, but if I want higher gain than I can get from that, I go to the red and use both pedals to push it.

The little parametric eq works great for what I want.  It's super quiet, does not color the tone with everything set at unity, and gives you control over a single band from 50hz to 5Khz.  You can make that band as wide as you want, and boost or cut, and it's got an overall volume knob, too, so it could even be used as a boost pedal.  If you just want to cut a single problem area, or boost an area for certain passages (like hitting a TS for its mid hump in a solo), it's great.  If you want something to more comprehensively sculpt the signal, you'd want something like an Empress Para EQ MK II (which I also have and is great, but not for this little gigging board).

Finally gor the Tonex and plugged it in just using the pre-loaded sims.

IK just announced a new editor app for these pedals to be released March 13th.  I guess they finally got tired of reading "Everything about the Tonex is great except that fucking app..."

I need a powersource for pedals and an inline tuner for ... tuning.

I could go search and read this whole thread or, someone who knows the answer could save me the hassle.

Current count is 1 wah pedal and 2 other pedals.  I suspect that number will increase by 1 tuner and who knows what else.

I've been real happy with the Cyoks for power.  Allows for modular growth and will power any kind of pedal.

I use a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 3+. The Cioks units are great too.

Turbo Tuner is probably the most solid unit out there, though I just got a Peterson Strobostomp mini for the form factor and have no complaints

Well I was taking some pictures for help troubleshooting why my a/b/y box sounds like shit, but it turns out I just needed to spray deoxit all over everything. So here’s some pedal innards pictures of an interesting a/b/y box, or at least interesting as far as a/b/y boxes go.

For several years, I had the Empress phaser on my board.  I was working on a lot of 70's-inspired funk songs, and the Empress has some modes where it behaves more like an envelope filter.  The problem was that you had to access the back side of the pedal to engage those switches.  It was a pretty cool studio tool, but way too complex and inaccessible to live on a pedalboard.

It got replaced by the Waylon phaser, which is much simpler, yet still gets a nice range of useable sounds.

That's tempting.  The 6-Stage mode comes closer to the Maestro MP-1 than anything I've heard to date.  I miss that pedal, but for its size, the amount of tone it sucked, and its attempt to electrocute me over the years.  I also miss the "Balls" control.

I'm using one of these with my Vox AC10, and I think I need the isolated version.  The other two power supplies mentioned above are isolated and there is an isolated version of this MXR.  Just throwing that out there for anyone with an AC10 trying to find a noisy gremlin.  It's probably the PS.

I'm running into an isolation issue with that same power supply on my pedal steel. My Keeley compressor needs isolation. I have Ciosks on all my other boards.

Gonna be selling some good pedals that aren't getting played for various reasons, none of which are because they suck.  Some have been made redundant, some are niche and not being used much, etc...  Pm me if you want any of these.  Prices are Surly discounts.  Will hold a few days to see if anyone is interested before listing on reverb at non-Surly prices.

Snouse BlackBox 2 (Overdrive $150 + shipping)

PastFX Elastic Mattress (Flanger $125 + shipping)

PastFX Rotary Phaser ($200 plus shipping)

ZVex Vibrophase (Vibrato/phaser $150 plus shipping)

Subdecay Vagabond Tremolo ($100 + shipping)

Red Panda Radius (Ring modulator $225 + shipping)

I got this SY1 to play around with, but since upgraded to a Zoia from soundscape master @Goredho advice so moving it on. I threw it up on Reverb, but if any Surlyites want it the friends price is 125. Basically mint and comes with box etc...

I am really enjoying the Waylon phaser, but this trend of the insane brightness of the on/off lamp on pedals has to stop. I had to put a piece of tape over it to be able to read the dial settings.

So I was sharing this with @Goredho but though the pedal guys might be into this. Boss just released the RT-2 rotary sim recently and being a sucker for all thing GIlmour I had to get one. The old RT 20, while not great for Leslie, was the pedal for doing a Doppola emulation. This one seems like it can do that thing, plus the Leslie is much more convincing.

In a continuing series of me mangling Gilmour solos, I did a quick pass on Mother last night. The one drawback is there is no mix knob on this, because of the small form factor they ran out of room. So my take is it's pretty right on for live Gilmour, bhut a bit to wet for the studio. I think running a blender pedal with it you could get extremely close though.

Got most of the bends roughly in tune! Would have like to have gotten the rakes up to the big E string bends a little better but what are ya gonna do.

Thanks brosef. I forgot to mention what I was using, Strat with Duncan SSL-5 in the bridge, Rams Head Muff, RT-2 into a Hiwatt and a Fane Starfinder cab IR.

Just seems like fuzz kind of lives in its own world.  I hear much bigger differences between the flavors of fuzz than I do with, say, flavors of overdrive. Fuzz face, big muff, tonebender, octavia ,etc... all seem to have their own distinct sound and characteristics.  ODs do, too, but not to the same degree.  They also seem to really favor certain pairings with pickups and/or amps.  Like, I hate the bridge strat pickup.  But get some dark fuzz on it, and all the sudden its a usable, musical thing.  Put that same dark fuzz on a humbucker, and its sounds like a bowl of oatmeal.

My current favorite fuzz, tonebender style, in a mini format.  Can get as wooly as I'd ever want, tone knob to dial out darkness, it cleans up superbly with a guitar's volume knob and sounds good with most pickups.  That last thing I sent you, @G650, used this with the volume knob rolled to 3-4 w/neck & middle strat pickups.

Yeah, fuzz has to be the most variable by far. I generally chalk it up to the circuits being so simple and unfiltered. You can spend the rest of your life going being between different fuzzes and they will all be so damn unique. I am totally with you in the Strat bridge pickup, I never use it except for Gilmour stuff, and he managed it because he had these full tilt dark wooly fuzz faces and Muffs. The combo goes together like peas and carrots. I still have to add a touch of 1.5k on an EQ to get it right I find.

I currently have an Analogman Sunface, which is a Fuzz Face, with the BC109 chip, to mimic the Dark Side era Fuzz Face. But just typing this it's wild to think how much variation there is in these, same circuit but different chip is wildly different. I also have a Sunlion with a Tonebender 1.5 circuit, which is very Fuzz Face like.

I have always considered Muffs their own thing. I have an original Black Russian I've owned since it was new. I actually just got it because I didn't know any better back then, I was just trying to buy a distortion pedal lol. They fetch decent money these days actually. I got the Ram's Head reissue not super long ago, and that was a 100% Gilmour thing.
