Texas recruiting notes 2019

Now that we seem to have missed on our top targets, it is actually perversely glorious watching mental midgets gymnasticating their way into believing Glass is a good RB. There is a reason he is so down on our board. There is a reason he is not being recruited by any of the national powers. We need a game breaker at RB. He could very well turn out to be that guy, but the odds are against it. Problem is that we got lapped by better recruiters this cycle for most of our players. We had to settle for guys down the board and it is looking like a hohum class right now. The staff is a 3-4 elite recruiters and a bunch of JAGS.

I’m so glad you found your way to this thread from the football board.

A bit out of the loop but does Derrian Brown suck? Or just talking depth with the second RB?

Senior Hudl is not too shabby. He actually improved pretty significantly since the time we decided he was a take.

Probably not in Cain or Sanders' class, obviously, but he is definitely no slouch. Certainly better than any of the leftover names we're currently mulling over.

Removed Peyton Powell
Added Bru McCoy (still have hope), Noah Cain, Jalen Catalon, Isaiah Hookfin, Caleb Johnson, and Jay Williams to the class calculator.

Brought us to 285.01, would have been good for 7th last season.

That doesn't mean much, given that Cain, Catalon, McCoy and Williams aren't likely to be in the class.

Caleb Johnson highlights: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/5117088/5a4476854deaed24249b14d6

Football player.

The competition doesn’t look that great but the speed and nose for the ball carrier is definitely there. He’ll be a great addition.

Edit: just saw @RabidM film post and the competition looks better and he still dominated.

eh... He breaks a few arm tackles, his HUDL highlights don't look especially better than Adam Taylor's. But he does seem better than Kyle Porter, at least.

Glass looks much better than Taylor, unless you like sledgehammer feet (isn't that the term Dave Lapham uses?).

Looked at the recent 247 national top 100. It’s seems like fewer of the top 100 is coming out of Texas these days versus 5-10 years ago. Don’t know if the data supports that, but it seems that way. National recruiting is critical for winning a national championship these days.

It always has. Multiple key players on the 2005 team were not from Texas. I don’t know what the magic number is but I think it should be well north of a third these days considering how undeveloped Texas OL and DL are.

I don’t disagree but Studdard and Sendlein were the only non Texas kids on that team that started,  both were also legacies so not sure they even really count.

Actually the national championship team only had four players of any significance from out of state and two of them were sons of Texas legacy football players.

What am I missing?

Catalon wants to play baseball and football. So two different coaching staffs tweeted a commitment at about the same time which makes you think it could be Catalon.

It is interesting because McComas is normally quick to tweet who committed when it's baseball.
