My doctor/PA wanted the same thing regarding getting my leg straight. It was the worst part of PT for me.  Eventually it got itself straight long after I stopped PT.  Like 6-9 months. Just regular walking and getting up and around finally took care of it.  Its all about realigning the muscles to cope with the new joint, which takes time.
