Judge permanently blocks ‘unconstitutional’ Trump order targeting law firm Perkins Coie https://www.cnn.com/2025/05/02/politics/perkins-coie-trump-executive-order A federal judge on Friday ruled that an executive order signed by President Donald Trump targeting a law firm that represented his 2016 presidential opponent was unconstitutional. US District Judge Beryl Howell ruled that the executive order targeting Perkins Coie violated the First, Fifth and Sixth Amendments, calling it a “blunt exercise of power” that “is not a legitimate use of the powers of the U.S. government or an American President” “The U.S. Constitution affords critical protections against Executive action like that ordered in EO 1423,” Howell, referring to the executive order, wrote in her 100-plus page opinion. “Government officials, including the President, may not ‘subject … individuals to ‘retaliatory actions’ after the fact for having engaged in protected speech.’”

That’s a great show. I can’t stop listening to 6/20/80. It’s goddamn amazing!

Excellent post. Schloss is absolutely correct in that most college pitchers can't throw strikes. The results this season bear that out. When you run into a locked in, strike throwing pitching staff like Arky these last two nights and hot teams at the CWS, it gets tougher "Why doesn't Billy Beane's shit work in the playoffs?"

I’m looking forward to Department Q which drops at the end of the month. British adaptation of a series of novels from a Danish author (I think there may have been a Danish production done a decade ago). It’s been likened to Broadchurch, which was fantastic.

On the bright side, we no-hit Arkansas the final 5 innings On the negative side, we also allowed 10 base runners in the final 5 innings

Either that or just lean into it. "Yeah, I'm a big guy. I like eating good food. Steaks. Potatoes. Real food. I'm sorry if that bothers you. If the worst thing you can say about me is that I'm fat, I'll take that. Because the worst thing that you can say about the other side is that they're shredding the Constitution. So your choice is a guy who loves steak or a guy who wants to be a dictator." In an American in which 70% of Americans are fat/obese, I don't think it's that big of an issue.

I loved watching it on the Dolby screen at Clear Fork in Fort Worth - but 70mm IMAX at Webb Chapel in Dallas was so worth the hassle. They are re-releasing it there on the 15th. Highly recommend. -

In the Finals, Dallas held Boston to what would have been the 25th rated offensive efficiency in the league that season. Their problem was that nobody not named Luka could score.
