That article is rife with interesting quotes in there. It's not quite as bad as some of the Mensa pieces we read a few years back, but it's an odd piece. Lacks depth, IMO, but it is a WSJ Sports piece.... "Jim Knowles studied in the Ivy League and worked on Wall Street. Then he found his true calling: inventing new ways to hammer quarterbacks" He attended Cornell, the LSU of the Ivy League. I kid. "At Ohio State, Knowles pulled off an even bigger miracle. Before Knowles arrived, the Buckeyes had just the 38th-ranked defense in college football." "Bigger miracle" might be a bit of hyperbole. In 2019, tOSU was top-5 in scoring and total defense. In 2015-2016, they were top-5 in scoring and top-10 in total defense. Not exactly a miracle. Shoddy research. "That’s when the mad scientist truly began experimenting. He designed schemes built to do exactly what sophisticated financial algorithms are supposed to manage: Spot inefficiencies and ruthlessly capitalize on them." The article refers to him as an experimenter and mad scientist a couple of times, but cites nothing other than throwing blitzes that wreak havoc. No examples of exploiting inefficiencies. “Jim, basically, is a very, very intelligent man,” said former Western Michigan coach Gary Darnell. “I wouldn’t want to play poker with him.” [Darnell nod referred to by @notre dame joe] There are a few references to him figuring out how to snuff out offenses with inferior talent while at WMU and Cornell, failing to cite that some of that is because he is playing against inferior talent. The testimonial of a WMU/Florida game where his WMU team caused 2 interceptions left out an important detail: WMU lost 55-26. Sure, the game was 31-26 at one point. But WMU had zero sacks while giving up 600+ yards. Sure, Knowles is effective, but the article seemed a little lazy.

I asked my wife this question last night and she said move to a blue state. To me, it's that or Spain.

Did not see this story posted in DT. Horrific doesn't even begin to describe this story. I don't even really know what to say beyond I'm absolutely floored at the depths of evil in some people. These aren't humans, they are real world monsters. New York Times Link

Actually, I think the framework is pretty good. The drafting is often poor and the itemization of powers, particularly Article II, needs reworking.

You mean Dazed and Confused 2? That movie was decent (but not nearly as good as D&C). -

Everybody Wants Some is probably his best movie. It’s a lighthearted Linklater movie and nostalgic about being Texas college life in the 80’s. So pretty much perfect for all the olds on this board. -

Well I say this about any movie and I think it will always hold true. We all like different movies and sometimes a movie that can be pretty popular may just fall flat with one of us. I said I did not enjoy the Superman movies I saw growing up and I know that some people found that to be odd. The only way I can say that might help you connect with the movie is to think that you're seeing a Polynesian Jew playing Hitler and that much of the movie revolves around the imagination of a child. I watched it from that perspective. I know I mentioned this years ago in the thread about the movie and that I got to hear Taika Waititi speak about the movie. AMC had this thing on opening night and it had some screenings at the UWS location by Lincoln Square with a sign saying Q&A. I asked about it and was told that someone associated with the movie would come out and talk about it after it was done. They had a screening the next morning for a Q&A of the movie so I got really lucky and the AMC app finally showed an open seat for it in the front row. At the end of the movie we are all surprised to see that it was Taika who came out to answer questions for 30 minutes. One random guy yelled out "Heil Hitler" (Recurring theme in the movie, especially with the Heil Hitlering scene later on in the movie with Stephen Merchant playing an SS agent) and Taika's like "Wasn't expecting that this morning!" I still have 15 minutes of video on my phone I took from that. He explained that he did the movie to warn about nazis and that they were again on the rise and that he was, in his words, "I should have to be making a movie warning people about nazis 75 f****** years later, but here we are." Again not everyone likes every movie and I think that's normal. This one just really hit home with me for several reasons, especially because my Oma was six years old when that idiot came to power and she turned 18 in January of 45 while her country was being destroyed. Just watching it through the eyes of a child who knows nothing else, but hate yet finds a way to change in the midst of unimaginable sadness perhaps makes it hit home more. -
