  1. Past hour
  2. Demeco Strong -Undisciplined penalties -Poor football IQ -Horrible offensive hires
  3. As a parent and now a grandparent, the thing that has stayed with me about this while thing (the shooter and his motives, etc.) is something I read the mom said or commented on. I read somewhere and I'll try to find the source but it's been a few days, where the family member or the mom said something to the effect of "he was into his games and internet and even went as some sort of meme once for Halloween when he was in high school" and was just so oblivious and hand-wavey about the whole thing. Clearly no real oversight or discipline into how he was raised with respect to technology. That screams to me either laziness or apathy, but either way, a very dangerous way to raise kids in the social media/internet dsytopian timeline. Like many kids, if he maybe had more attentative caregivers who moderated and policed his online behavior and activity as a youth and teen in those developmental years, maybe some of the internet-induced mental illness could have been avoided. Then again, maybe guys in their late 20's and 30's end up breaking their brains on the internet on their own and it was inevitable. I truly don't know.
  4. So where does Nick Fuentes being a catboy fall within this scale of internet subculture?
  5. There's a lot to unpack here. One thing I'll point out is the cruelty of using social pressure to force someone into a gender that they are not. Much like forces transpeople to remain in the one that they aren't. Does this "transmaxxing" extend to actual surgery? Seriously, imagining some weak-willed, Theojon-like, but straight cis guy, to have his dick chopped off, undergo a surgical procedure to construct a vagina, take hormones, grow tits, and all that just so that he can be forced into having sex with other guys because they can't get it anywhere else. What a gotdam torturous nightmare. That's just about the most fucked up thing I've ever heard of, if it's actually a thing.
  6. while this is written very poorly, i have a very strong feeling that this is most likely the speculation that will most closely align with reality if we are able to ascertain the truth. no one outside of robinson truly knows but it certainly feels this way to me at this point without greater facts. that (along with the lack of cooperation) is a contributing factor to the inability for anyone in authority to articulate a motive that satiates everyone's need to pigeonhole this as political violence in a traditional ways that allows people to act sanctimonious. if this does turn out to be the explanation, pam bondi, donald trump, kash patel, etc... are not equipped to understand this fucked up subculture and they can't articulate it to the public at large so they don't "waste a crisis" and leverage it for their more nefarious efforts. we, as posters on surly, have multiple orders of magnitude greater understanding of this derivative subculture than the average person just by being on here and barraged with memes and otherwise "for the lulz" online culture of disassociated people...and i would guess that most of us can't even express or accurately vocalize how this comes to be. the public at large is completely at a loss. while i am not perpetually online, i am on a fucking lot and i have insight into the internet subculture but i had no idea who "destiny" was until someone here started linking it. i also have never been a gamer so i have never been exposed to a lot of the threshold for this subculture. but for me to struggle to internalize the motivation (if it turns out to be accurate) accompanying this event...the public at large will never stand a chance and everyone will simply project their preferences and biases unfortunately.
  7. Yeah, he should have gone down after the 1st down and not at the 1, because if you make them waste their TOs and get a 1st down. They don't ever get the ball back. But I don't expect smart situational football from a DeMeco coached team. I love the guy, but he's not a good football IQ coach, especially considering his teams continued lack of discipline 3 years into the job.
  8. Well, the screen game is probably better if you replace Niblett blocking with Mosley blocking.
  9. They literally asked about Hortman and he said "who?"
  10. Mosley just got here and pulled a hammy in fall practice. I’m not sure why he’s being talked about like he’s Jordan Shipley.
  11. nightmare season ....
  12. No reports I’m aware of but I wouldn’t expect to see him until after the bye at the earliest.
  13. It’s really depressing. People under 40 likely have no fucking clue what a huge loss all these actors are to the film industry. They made Hollywood what it is. It’s like a shell of itself movie wise without all of them. Their absence from film too (some of them the last decade plus) is felt. Sad.
  14. With Paredes, we'll have the best one dimensional pinch hitter situation in the league.
  15. That’s some wild shit. The internet has broken so many people.
  16. We live in a chaotic world full of mental illness in pockets and genres that I didn't even know existed. I couldn't dream up this scenario or the players to this if I tried.
  17. Can Yordan start working on his best Kirk Gibson arm crank.
  18. Deep in their hearts, most of them know better, but their entire worldview is built on victimhood. They need to at least feel persecuted, or the magic doesn't work, and more importantly, the money doesn't flow.
  19. I told my girlfriend last night that they let him score. Chess.
  20. I get Carolina. They are a disaster and he had no chance. But in Cleveland, he got them their first playoff win since the mid 90s. He wasn't terrible there. Cleveland had talent to work with on offense. And the fully guaranteed contract to Watson might be the worst contract in sports history.
  21. Huckleberry. But to recap. Cole was with the organization all sesaon, but wasn't added to the 40 man roster until after the deadline. He needs a exemption for a injured player currently on the 40 man roster, which shouldn't be a problem. To be eligible for an MLB postseason roster, a player must be in the organization's organization as of 11:59 p.m. ET on August 31 and must have been on the 40-man roster or the injured list (IL). Players acquired through waivers, trades, or any other means after this deadline are ineligible for the postseason roster. Key Criteria for Eligibility: August 31 Deadline: The player must be part of the team's organization by 11:59 p.m. ET on August 31. 40-man roster: Players must have been on their team's 40-man roster by the deadline. Injured List: Players on the team's injured list (including the 60-day IL) as of the August 31 deadline are also eligible. In-Season Suspension: A player who was suspended for a performance-enhancing drug (PED) violation during the season is ineligible for postseason play that year. Exceptions for Special Circumstances: A player who doesn't meet the Aug. 31 criteria can still become eligible if they were in the organization on Aug. 31 and are replacing an injured player on the roster. The replacement player must have served the minimum time required for activation off the injured list (e.g., 10 days for the 10-day IL, 60 days for the 60-day IL).
