I see gold all over the place. My taste in music is really eclectic so I can dig all kinds of bands in that lineup. Immediate ones are The Strokes, Modest Mouse, Cage the Elephant, Wet Leg, Empire of the Sun. The Dare cracks me up... definitely will catch that set. John Summit should be a great electronic headliner. Been wanting to see Orion's Belte since I dig the Khruangbin/Glass Beams vibe (see below). Polo & Pan should be good. Bunch of other good options. I'll leave W1 with a bunch of new bands I like.
  5. Alcohol and lorazepam
  6. That's actually something I've been bringing up in PC one on ones, because it's a problem I can wrap my head around. I don't like the idea that a process gets so complicated that only the well-capitalized can navigate it. That said, I don't well understand alternatives besides a Power Broker-esque central authority and don't favor moving backwards to that, either. Gargle balls BECAUSE he's on Hanania's podcast? I want the thought leaders on the left to get out and take their ideas to the right's home turf I doubt there's much overlap between the listening audience there and Real English.
  7. Never heard of him. Now the sausage king of Chicago... he can get a seat at any restaurant in town.
  8. This season has been a VERY pleasant surprise and a great ride, thus far. But, count me as skeptical of any poll that still has Texas above Arkansas given the asswhuppin’ beat down last weekend. Can anyone think of a single phase of the game that Arkansas didn’t control? That said, Fuck piggy!
  9. I think that all makes sense. I'd do either deal.

  11. I really like the Houston Zoo, and I think it’s one of the better zoos in the country. They’ve made a lot of improvements over the last few years. My daughter and I go pretty often, and I maintain a membership so we can go for free. Parking and crowds can be a problem when schools are out though. You make a reservation and buy tickets online now.
  12. 10000-yard stepford stare
  13. That fucking guy badly baaadly overplayed his hand. Does he think the rest of the world wasn’t already strategizing for his return and what it could mean for them? Of course they were. I still think they’re shocked that it actually happened, but they were ready to pivot. It is quite possibly, some even say, the greatest botch in our history. Beautiful blunder.
  14. Klein and Thompson’s perspective of Texas is definitely one from their coastal bubbles, but I think it’s fair to say that they (and many other YIMBY-ish writers like Jerusalem Demas and Conor Dougherty) conceptually see that Texas has not been weighed down by the “everything bagel” progressivism that California and New York have. Inclusionary zoning requirements for BMR, union labor requirements, “community impact” fees, CEQA, etc - by giving everyone a right to get their say and take their piece, nothing gets built, which is of course a feature. And, in CA at least, this isn’t a LA/SF issue. The suburbs are just as bad. But yes the book is very CA- and NY-centric (to be fair, that was their original intent) but the way they have riled up the tankie left makes me think it was worth raising these issues for broader discussion.
  15. All of that shit, except maybe the whisky, is assembled in America from parts made in other countries. Not made in America. The myth of American Quality has been eroding for decades, but in the last 15 years has really taken a nose dive. In the guitar industry it's become very apparent. Assembled in the USA products from Fender and Gibson that cost $2500 to easily over $10k have had major quality control issues for years now. What has changed is many brand's made in Indonesia, Korea, Mexico, and even China guitars have increased in quality exponentially in the last decade. There's very little difference in actual quality, but 5 to 10 times the difference in price. The US was already starting to get left behind. That has accelerated greatly now with the stupidity.
  16. settling on Pinkertons (is it crazy on a Friday for lunch?), Truth or PitRoom will def try Botega for breakfast tacos due to proximity. I'm in with the family (wife, no pix, and two 7YO's) so it;s all about me getting some Texas food. maybe Betelgeuse for Pizza for my boy who is a pizza eting machine. Thx for the help. How's the Zoo? considering it for Friday
  17. Now I’m wondering if I should just switch my flight to LGA instead of Newark here in a few weeks. Newark is a shit show but I feel in a few weeks every airport will be a shit show

  20. The Rumeysa Ozturk case is in appeals today. 10 AM start (Eastern I assume). Hope some sense comes to this. https://www.aclu.org/press-releases/rumeysa-ozturks-legal-team-to-urge-appeals-court-to-not-delay-students-transfer-to-vermont
  21. I have a graduate degree from a school in the University of Nebraska system and their president sent us this email today going over the changes to the system. 1.) The National Science Foundation and the Department of Energy recently joined the NIH in capping Facilities & Administration (F&A) rates at 15%. These caps, which help cover research infrastructure like lab maintenance and staff, if enacted on all federal awards, would result in an estimated $60 million annual revenue loss for the university system. 2.) Since Jan. 22, 74 federal grants totaling $91.6 million have been terminated across our campuses—representing a loss of over $46 million in incomplete work. While we continue to assess the full impact, these changes reflect broader shifts in federal funding priorities. 3.) The recent release of the federal preliminary budget suggests reductions in federal support for sponsored research programs and many other key areas. While this is just a recommendation at this time, it does signal a desired direction for further cuts that could impact universities nationwide. This is a system that does relatively little research compared to most other states too.

    2025 ACL

Yeah nah. Had a very decent time last year, and this lineup is so void of even 2nd-tier acts I'd like to see that I'm at a loss for a way for them to convince me to go. The only combo I think I can see my springing a day pass for is if Pierce the Veil and Doechii are on the same day. 19-28 year old white girls are running this world. We just live in it.
