  2. I agree. But my point was that the expectations in 2009 were a bit more justified because of a senior Colt McCoy compared to Arch Manning with all of two starts. I think Arch has better offensive talent around him than Colt did. But as great as we think Arch will be, there aren't a whole lot of data points at this time.
  3. It bears repeating. He's such a fucking idiot.
  4. We just kind of ran out of gas in the 2nd half, but we did play 4 games in 5 days, in Team Canada's home turf, with a different ball (the larger FIBA ball, not the NCAA ball). Definitely not making excuse, because Canada also played 4 games in 5 days. Also besides Howell, Team Canada is loads older than us and more experienced. I mentioned something like 6 players combined for nearly 30 combined seasons of NCAA ball, with one of them (Ejim) a WNBA draft pick in 2025. Canada roster's was probably an average age of 23/24, while we had a freshman and a bunch of sophomores and juniors playing. Canada definitely matched our physicality and Howell just couldn't miss from deep. We did pretty well for a team with 4 new players (Judd, Crump, Sidberry, Cunningham) and down 1 major returner (Oldacre) for 3 of our 4 games.
  5. I'm more excited this year than 2009. It's 2005 for me in terms of the last time I had more confidence. I thought the 2009 team was razor thin and that the OL was a piper tiger. I remain shocked to this day that Texas made it to the title game and was controlling it before Greg Davis' dumb fucking playcalling. My perspective has very little to do with Arch Manning. I really would like for him to be awesome, but the Texas football team, and all of us, don't actually need him to be awesome. He needs to be solid. Beyond that is all found money for this team. This is the deepest roster for Texas in most our lifetimes. There are dudes at every position and in every class. The storyline used to be that the Alabama second team was a top 10 team. I never fully bought that, but top 25 for sure. I see this roster in that same vein. The defense's second team is probably a top 10 unit, or close enough to argue it. There is that. I think the hype and the anti-hype at a national and casual fan level is all driven by the interest in Manning. That's fine. I just think it is misplaced. Kannell and Dvoracek taking Texas in the #8 spot of their rankings is a great example of the anti-hype. They're almost solely reacting to Manning and thinking they're coming across as savvy that he and the OL will have growing pains. Guess what? They will. The opposing team still has to score more than 17 points if and when that happens. Good luck with that. The Manning focus from every direction is burying this team's lede, and I'm a-okay with that.
  6. I think it's even more simple than this; We follow the team closely and we have every expectation that we will compete for a national championship. That hasn't happened in 16 years.
  7. The Russians don’t even need to invest in information warfare anymore because Putin can just incept things into Trump’s brain and get him to start flailing around insanely.

  12. The first quarter/half of the last preseason game is the only one worth watching unless you can get excited about watching 2nd and 3rd stringers battle it out against guys that are about to be cut. The backup qb play is generally so shitty that it makes the games very boring.

  15. I'd say maybe throw yourself into other Texas fall sports but Ange Kelly fucking sucks and so does, apparently, the women's soccer team. Volleyball plays this week, though. Probably not completely sating, but it's something. I see the NFL preseason in the same light and that will do tonight.
  16. When the A's move to LV, I think it will be Astros, Rangers, A's, Rockies, and Arizona. That would mean Seattle, Dodgers, Angels, Giants, and Padres on the West Coast.

  18. I think that's right. A lot of it is the Arch Manning hype, but we're also coming off two consecutive semifinal appearances, have a kickass defense, and a ton of talent all over. I think the expectations should be tempered a bit from the 2009 team because we had a senior Colt McCoy who was a Heisman runner-up in 2008. But I don't think I've been as excited about the Longhorns' potential ceiling since 2009.

  23. They are too timid, editorially, to report what they see in accurate terms. There's a war going on in Gaza with a hunger crisis not a famine caused by a brutal, inhuman invasion. Editors and legal departments will have to discuss this issue for weeks before they decide, finally, that concentration camp is too charged a description for their readers. Now, somebody on a panel show might call them concentratin camps. They will be answered immediately by a shouting, outraged fascist accusing them of hating America.
