In 2017, a normally routine document released by the archives, a records retention schedule, revealed that archivists had agreed that officials from Immigration and Customs Enforcement could delete or destroy documents detailing the sexual abuse and death of undocumented immigrants. Tens of thousands of people posted critical comments, and dozens of senators and representatives objected. The National Archives made some changes to the plan, but last month it announced that ICE could go ahead and start destroying records from Mr. Trump’s first year, including detainees’ complaints about civil rights violations and shoddy medical care.

It’s not just ICE. The Department of the Interior and the National Archives have decided to delete files on endangered species, offshore drilling inspections and the safety of drinking water. The department even claimed that papers from a case where it mismanaged Native American land and assets — resulting in a multibillion-dollar legal settlement — would be of no interest to future historians (or anyone else).

Virtually all the papers of the under secretary of state for under secretary for economic growth, energy and environment are also being designated as “temporary,” despite the incredibly broad responsibilities of that office — from international aviation safety to foreign takeovers of American firms.

What you are seeing and hearing is not what is happening.

A few pages back I had mentioned the software company that noted a lot of missing records related to court cases, etc w/respect to ICE. They stopped working with the government because they didn't want to be a part of the coverup essentially. (the back story is longer IIRC but that's the short version). A followup revealed that even more files were deleted and/or missing. There is no way to ajudicate when one doesn't exist. No papers on either end. If there is no person, there is no accountability on the part of ICE. That is the immigration policy of the present.

Well, someone needs to go on a FOIA binge. Request all the records, and archive them yourself.  AND, to the extent that it's discovered that records were destroyed or deleted already, that's actionable as well.

We need to get a LOT more aggressive about using the courts on OFFENSE, not just defense.  It's the last chance for the rule of law -- use it.

Normally the librarians and archivists make for a good firewall between fascism & chaos and organized resistance, but the right has been whittling away at their protections and long ago stopped their $$ so people may have to develop a National  Information Underground and get busy.

How does one know what is truth and what is not truth? When you can no longer trust the government to tell the truth, anything is possible. He may have been involved, he may have not. We will never know because he is dead.

Did a little searching. The man's name was James Paul Markowitz. Saw the same name listed as a man born in Texas who has served time for theft in Texas (2013) in Robertson prison as well as an arrest record in Montana also for theft in 2016.

This was posted in another topic, the NY pressure campaign by DHS. Texas already operates with DHS. Most accusations of racial profiling against DPS officers result in the charges being dismissed. An article in the AA Statesman in 2016 discussing a study at UNT was defended by DPS officials stating that the results of racial disparities with respect to traffic stops were inconclusive although they acknowledged there were disparities. Back then DPS said they were launching a new internal system to track traffic stop data that includes race and ethnicity of drivers. They state "they will use this to identify trends and outliers."

The comments below the actual article versus the comments below the tweet are illuminating. The 'if you don't do anything illegal you have nothing to worry about viewpoint,' vs the 'this is sliding further down the slippery slope to Chinese style prohibitive surveillance' viewpoint. Trump campaign uses an app that tracks its users all day every day and actively monitors that during rallies.

New way forward act.....nope, nothing to see here folks

legislation would use “taxpayer money to bring deported criminals back into America.” Calling it the “right to come home,” the New Way Forward Act would order the government to create a “pathway for those previously deported to apply to return home to their homes and families in the United States,” at taxpayer expense.

Do you remember last fall when I discussed Stu Segall, the former porn producer, who was into designing quick sets for tactical training and that sim cities were being set up for BP et. al. to train? They've been quietly preparing and now that the Senate trial is out of the way, here they come:

In addition to terrorizing immigrants and citizens, it cost the cities a lot of money. Sometimes they are sued when legal residents are detained. No coincidence that Trump is sending patrols to blue cities...

Very easy for trump to win Wisconsin, just run ads of Wisconsin minorities receiving any type of government assistance. That’ll drive white voters to trump

One factor that could also count against an applicant is the action the immigrant is undertaking: applying for a green card. Applying for the legal status is one of the negative factors that immigration officials could use to determine if someone will be a public charge, a Catch-22 that has been a key criticism from immigration advocates.

So, Barr and Miller have been 'talking?' cause this seems weaponized to me. Or am I wrong and it's totes normal. Does Ilhan Omar have anything to worry about? What about my neighbor who is from Iran? It states that there is no statute of limitations so are we talking about removal of anyone from a nation that the WH deems hostile?

Knowing how extremely dishonest and unethical this administration is, I wouldn't be surprised if my mother-in-law got a visit from these effeminate losers.
