  2. for those that don't listen to the podcast. I literally wrote the checks sitting on the floor in the hall of champions. I paid players, INSIDE OF DKR INSIDE THE HALL OF CHAMPIONS. COMPLETELY LEGALLY lol

  10. Things are still grim at my ICU in Houston. The one thing I'm struggling with the most this time around is taking care of pregnant patients. I was pregnant the last wave and was terrified of getting COVID even though we didn't have any pregnant COVID patients. I don't know how I would be able to keep it together if I was still pregnant this time around. We have a handful of them now and all of them had to have emergency C-sections once their oxygen saturations dropped. The silver lining is that the babies are doing well down in the neonatal ICU but the moms are still intubated with no signs of improvement. Even with the additional ICU that opened up we are still full with no open ICU beds. One perk is that our administration is pretty much throwing money at us to stay in our current roles. I currently get four times my salary to just show up at work so I have been thinking of using that extra cash for a trip once this nightmare is (hopefully) over.

  12. There are a few articles floating around the internet today, which I'm sure some DT dipshit will come post in this thread, about how the conservatives took the private right of action from the liberal playbook and liberals are being hypocrites by complaining about it in this context. I'm just going to go ahead and pre-emptively explain why that's bullshit. Private rights of action in laws that liberals have historically supported are created (1) to give people a right to protect their own rights (e.g. to sue for unlawful discrimination), or (2) to enforce environmental laws. They're created to ensure that the purpose of an applicable law isn't defeated by the refusal to enforce it by state actors. However, SB8 specifically created a private right of action for the clear purpose of avoiding judicial review. This is so completely different that it is utterly dishonest to pretend that it is similar to how private rights of action have been used in the past. However, there is an historical law that this law does appear to borrow from. It's not a civil rights law, or an antidiscrimination law, or an environmental law though. It's the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850. The Fugitive Slave Act allowed states to appoint anyone they wanted as bounty hunters to hunt down and capture escaped slaves. It allowed someone who simply claimed to own an escaped slave to swear that a black person was their slave and required that the state accept such a sworn statement as conclusive and forbid the testimony of an alleged escaped slave to be admitted as evidence to the contrary. And it subjected anyone who aided, abetted, or assisted an escaped slave to fines, imprisonment, and civil liability of $1,000 per alleged-escaped slave that they aided, to be paid to the alleged-slaveowner. It is hard not to conclude that the Texas legislature used the Fugitive Slave Act as a model for SB8.

  16. I can't think of anything better than national talking heads saying we'll lose to or barely scrape by Louisiana. Consider that these are the same guys who ranked Texas #5 to start the 2010 season. They always look backward instead of forward. All of our games were maddening close under Tom Herman. If he were here, predicting a close game would make sense. Less talented teams beat us sometimes because they could stay close. All that is gone. All gas no brakes is a genuine philosophy here. Can we deliver? I think we score more than we did last year. Louisiana? I only know that generally they're good, well-coached, and likely a little over-rated. Their games were also close last year other than stomping ISU. I'm sure they're up and confident. With the national talking heads doubting us based on the past (not entirely unreasonable), a 21-point victory over Louisiana will look better than it actually is. We'd rise dramatically in the rankings. They like seeing us up there. I don't think Louisiana has the horses to go toe to toe the whole game with us. If we enter the fourth quarter with a two score lead, Sark isn't going to start running out the clock. He's going to keep his foot on the gas. Add to the equation that Sark wants both his QBs to get work. He will not continue the irritating Texas tradition of putting in the second string and running dives every play. I think we crush Louisiana. I think it will be good win over a pretty damn good team that can't match our depth. We'll know more about the Longhorns after Fayatenam. Hook 'Em!

  21. 3 years ago my kid had a freshman game in Bryan, we ate at Rudy's BBQ where Jimbo did a coach's show that waa on the radio too. It wasn't going on then but you could leave questions in a box that they'd draw from. I asked how Candi's tennis lessons were going but they must have run out of time because they didn't get to my question

  22. Hey y'all, I wrote an article for Texas Highways re: small-town Texas. Lots of historical photos of small-Texas towns. It was quite a bit of work and I'd be obliged if y'all would take a gander. Still working out some issues with formatting these articles so if you have any difficulty viewing this if you'd post what you're viewing it on (Android, Iphone, tablet/pad, computer etc..) and what operating system/version you're using that would be most helpful. Finally, any comments on content or factual corrections would also be welcome.

  26. On today's episode of "Chip Brown is a fucking moron," Chip's feature story of the day is about Brock Purdy and Iowa State being successful if Purdy can "get out of his own head." Yes, on the day before the season opener, featuring a new coach, an upgraded stadium, a move to the SEC on the horizon, and a multitude of other compelling topics to write about, FCB releases an article pimping conference foes. Now, to make you smile: It got down-voted into oblivion - literally. The reception was so bad that Brown took it/was forced to take it down. Everybody say it with me: FUCK CHIP BROWN

  30. Hey y'all, hope that it's ok to post this here My main account is a surly 10% member (with no CR rep inflation!) and burnt ends member but I wanted to have a level of separation for this I've been working on an NIL project of my own and we just launched this morning: niftyhorns.com I've spoilered a longer explanation but the tl;dr is that we're creating digital trading cards for Texas athletes. We'll be starting small but eventually it'd be great to include as many student athletes as possible. And our pack structure is going to allow for everyone to make money, from the stars to the walk-ons to non-revenue athletes Appreciate y'all checking it out
