Good stuff man, thanks.

for the extra lazy:

Overview

When able to concentrate fully on outside linebacker in 2020 Ossai’s play improved, he was no longer tasked with play diagnosis and covering short zone crossing routes allowing him to line up either end of the line of scrimmage and attack the pocket. His strength at the next level is putting him in positions to succeed as a 3-4 outside linebacker allowing him to find the gaps along the line.

His landing spot will be scheme dependent, but he has real star potential at the next level and it would not surprise me to see him taken inside the top-15 of the 2021 NFL Draft due to the elevation of the edge position in the draft. Once he’s able to concentrate on a single position in the pros, his game should develop and thrive.

CBS Sports projects Joseph Ossai as 27th pick in the  first-round of 2021 NFL Draft

Round 1 - Pick 27        Joseph Ossai LB

TEXAS • JR • 6'4" / 253 LBS

  • PROJECTED TEAM.         Baltimore
  • PROSPECT RNK.              34th
  • POSITION RNK                  5th

This is a team that could lose both Matt Judon and Yannick Ngakoue in free agency. Landing some edge help really makes sense. They could also look at Notre Dame guard Aaron Banks.

Falcons 2021 potential draft pick profile: EDGE Joseph Ossai

Scott Carasik        March 6, 2021

Joseph Ossai could be great for the Atlanta Falcons if they can draft him at the start of the second round. Ossai’s fit in the Falcons’ defense would be as a pass-rushing edge and outside linebacker. He has the kind of pass-rushing ability and leadership traits in the locker room to be an asset for Atlanta.

EDGE, Joseph Ossai, University of Texas

6-foot-4, 253 pounds

Stats and Awards

2020: 9 Games Played, 55 Tackles, 16.0 Tackles for Loss, 5.0 Sacks, 2 QB Hurries, Interceptions, 3 Fumbles Forced, 1 Fumble Recovered, 2 Pass Deflections, First Team All-American, First Team All-Big 12

2019: 13 Games Played, 90 Tackles, 13.5 Tackles for Loss, 5.0 Sacks, 9 QB Hurries, 2 Interceptions, 1 Fumble Forced, 1 Pass Deflection, 1 Blocked Kick

2018: 14 Games Played, 20 Tackles, 1.0 Tackle for Loss, 1.0 Sack, 1 Fumble Forced, Alamo Bowl Defensive MVP

Highlights: Vs. TCU

 Strengths

Joseph Ossai has great overall athleticism and can come right in and be an impact player as a pass rusher. His explosiveness off the ball combined with his ability to bend an edge make him dangerous in that role. Ossai can convert speed to power with the best of them and has a dangerous bull rush and multiple counter moves.

His length allows him to set the edge effectively when he makes the right reads against the run. Ossai is an efficient tackler and rarely lets guys get free from him. Plus, he has experience off the ball and is capable of dropping into coverage more effectively than most edge defenders.

Weaknesses

While Ossai is one of the smarter pass rushers, he still has instinctual lapses against the run. He gets blocked out too often when trying to attack the ball behind the line of scrimmage, and unless he’s really able to set the edge, Ossai will be flushed away from the ball. He has issues with option plays and will often guess wrong, but this could be a result of coaching.

Ossai’s lack of versatility comes from the fact that he’s best at playing off the edge. While he’s not going to disappoint if he aligns inside, he’s an almost pure outside linebacker. He doesn’t have coverage abilities one would normally want from a linebacker. His lapses in coverage come from inexperience in that role, but there’s not enough raw talent in that aspect to try and mold it into a reliable skill.

Leadership

Ossai was one of the best leaders for the Longhorns during his career there. He was a captain for the team and would be a vocal leader that the Falcons are missing in their edge group. Ossai’s been great off the field and is known for his effort on the field. He leads by example as well as being a gym rat and who’s always trying to improve his game in the film room too.

Overview

NFL Stylistic Comparison/Best Case Scenario: Justin Houston

While he’s probably built closer to John Abraham, his play style is that of a more powerful rusher like Houston. He’s got the entire pass rush arsenal and should be able to attack quarterbacks with vigor. And he has all the tools to develop into a well-rounded edge who doesn’t have to play in coverage often. Teams should love him in that role.

How Ossai would fit into the Falcons’ plans

The Falcons would have to take him in the early second round to secure his services, but they’d be smart to do so. He’s a great fit for the defense that Dean Pees runs and would be a pass rusher that could be used similar to how Pees used Terrell Suggs with the Ravens. Minimize his coverage responsibilities and let him work and you will see the results.

Did someone forget to calibrate the vertical jump measurement thing? Lol Ossai and Sterns would have been #5/#6 overall at last year's combine and Sam would have been the top QB.

Either that or we know what Yancy was prioritizing in his training.

It's sucks that it will get lost because of the weird lame duck season but his OSU game was an all-timer. That was as dominant an individual defensive performance as I've ever seen a Texas player have. Not to mention he was hurt the week before and probably wasn't even 100%.
12 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 FF, 1 FR. The last sack was a walk-off.

I didn’t watch any football this season and I regret not getting to see that game.

4.61 unofficial 40 for Ossai. Supposedly tweaked his hamstring while doing it, too.

The combine and shit like this helps keep the shitty teams shitty.   LOLz.

Ignore 25+ gamefilms on the dude and start having doubts because of a 40.

Huh? Where are you getting that people have doubts or will drop him in their boards? Pretty much everyone agrees his testing results upped his draft stock. It’s a really weird assumption to make that teams drop him based on a fine 40 time when all his other numbers were off the charts.
