Brake harder, probably from higher speed. Electrics can only regen brake up to a limit, and then the mechanical brake takes the load. So if you're always braking lightly, your mechanical brakes are hardly being wiped at all.

But if your inner and outer face look different, it's a caliper not compressing evenly and may be the real reason they failed you.

Dont think theres a big problem with caliper side to side. The outside faces were also a bit grooved and hazy, so I ran a computer guided burnishing program until it looked good, but didnt realize they would also check the inside face.

The burnishing program asks to bring the car to 50mph, brake at ~35bar (mid-hard by feel), wait 25 second for cool down, and repeat.

Its meant to bed in the pads from new,  and I did it a bunch of times, but wonder if it can be even faster running a different speed/temp/pressure regime.

Find an empty road and do a couple 60-0 hard stops.  That should do it.

You never want to do that.  That's how you get warped rotors.  Brake 60-5 and then let it roll out to dissipate the heat evenly.  A full stop traps the heat between the disks and rotors and warps them.

You don't stay stopped. You do it and then drive away like normal.

And then take it to a different inspection station if possible.

The fucking joker asked for 4 grand to replace rotors and pads.

I measured them with a caliper. They were at like 90% life based on thickness.

It wasn’t until after the inspection that I saw that specific shops google reviews suck ass.

Whenever you do end up getting new rotors, toss an old one through their window.

I think we had talked about them before, but just wanted to chime in and say fuck Volvo. 2018 XC90 with 60K miles. Both front and rear evap cores are cracked. Bullshit by itself, but what is insane is the entire interior needs to be disassembled to replace them at a cost of $6,400. That's from an independent Volvo specialist too. I imagine the dealer is closer to $10K. That along with some other issues and the guy suggested I just dump the car and move on. Coming from a guy who loves Volvos that was surprising to hear.

I guess I'll see what I can get for it and push my wife to get a Toyota this time.

Have the exact same car with almost the exact same mileage that my wife drives. I will never buy another Volvo again. We had the AC go out, but luckily it was under warranty. The AC has always been loud as shit inside and there is a slight whistle sound when it’s on high.  Currently have a check engine light with the code being for some emissions bullshit. Thinking about getting rid of it before some major shit goes wrong like you’re dealing with. It’s just a matter of time. Kind of thinking about a Grand Highlander Hybrid. Im sick of paying $80 to fill up the Volvo with premium fuel. Fuck Volvo.

Nice. I'd almost bet the AC will fuck up again a few years from now. We had a check engine light for some emissions bullshit, but it was under warranty. Can't remember the exact cause.

On top of the AC, our active headlights also stopped working giving an error code everytime we start the car. Both door lock actuators went out on the driver's side. There's some motor mount that is cracked. I also need to do regular maintenance to change all the brakes and battery. All of it added up is just really difficult to justify.

60K miles. Fucking absurd. That was almost a new car when I was a kid.

I'd love to just go buy a 4Runner. MPG be damned. Wife will probably want a Highlander which I'm also fine with. I shy away from hybrids after a bad experience with a Lexus RX450h although I don't really know what the cause was for sure.

Lol, same. Arent you just at the edge of warranty coverage? My old GTI had its whole entertainment unit go out months before its warranty expired, and the Passport I bought my parents had its AC crap out months after. Those are the only multi-$k issues both cars had. Funny how that works.

4 year 50K mile warranty so it's long gone. Nothing broke until about 4.5 years old. As per usual.

I can't remember if I bitched about this on here before, but I had these 15mm Eibach wheel spacers on my SS because the stock wheels don't have great offsets. These brought them flush and I really liked the look. Fast forward to brake maintenance time and I go to remove them so I can change out the rotors. 5 of the 20 nuts holding them on seized in place and turned to butter as I tried to remove them. Hours of f-bombs and an angle grinder was needed to get them off. I guess I'm back to stock offsets because only one spacer survived. Nothing can ever be easy.

Ew spacers.

Well, yeah. Not ideal, but easiest solution at the time. Now I don't really give a shit so I'll just go without.

I hate aftermarket wheels so the only real option is CTS-V wheels.

This isn't really a new discovery, but it was new to me. A while back one of my parking sensors went bad which disabled the whole system. Just now got around to diagnosing it and found where you can activate the sensors and then record video on your phone next to each one. Good sensors will make a continuous clicking noise where bad ones do not. Allowed me to narrow it down to a single bad sensor which I was able to pop out and replace fairly easily. Everything works like new again.

Submitting a new frivolous acquisition - 991.2 Carrera GTS in agate grey with 7MT. I haven't had a "fun" car in years. The itch has been growing and I settled on a manual 911. I've been patiently waiting for a car to come for sale with my preferred options and color (grey or blue). When this one popped up with all the boxes checked, I pulled the trigger. It is an absolute blast!

Mezger 4 life!

For some reason I read that as 997.1. Gorgeous car, though!
