Both lost to Ohio State. Freeman got one game further. He's a great coach but he also has issues getting past a better team. Both are out of the playoff this year because they couldn't beat the teams they should've.

Do you need it spelled out for you why no one mentioned Sark for that job?Maybe, just maybe, in this new era where money is king, Texas should never be sitting on the sidelines. And yes, I do admit that I am not one of his biggest fans these days. His recent press conference utterances told me everything I need to know about him. And now he's whining about NIL. Poor baby! It's so unfair that you have to do your job as well as ten other coaches seem to be able to do! I don't think University of Texas athletics should ever tolerate mediocrity, but especially in the modern era where we have all the advantages.

December 31, 2025Dec 31 58 minutes ago, TreatyOak said:Just asking the question. Sark got paid a lot of money, Texas is the largest money-generating program, and has one of, if not the largest player payrolls in college football, but we couldn't make a 12-team playoff. Could it be possible that Sark isn't the best coach that Texas could get?Texas eliminates a lot of really good candidates because of dumb shit they look for such as previous HC experience, p4 experience, and so on and so forth. Most importantly Texas tends to get lost in "hottest names" with not much resume outside of 1-2 years or "wonder boy genius" types.

Or could it be these schools know the university of Texas coach is not leaving for their job. They didn’t offer coach mcvay either so that dude must suck. And we don’t know who was offered anything unless you believe every source that throws shit to the wall.
December 31, 2025Dec 31 Or it's known that Sark and Freeman are only leaving their jobs for the NFL and not other colleges since both are at top 5 destinations. None of those coaches listed are NFL types or have any previous experience in the NFL. A lot on that list are there because they were thought to be gettable and Michigan wasn't going to do what Penn State did and get turned down repeatedly. Edited December 31, 2025Dec 31 by mdmost

The bigger point, as I understood it, was Sark never gets mentioned as a potential target. Day, DeBoer, Lanning, Freeman and the others on the list get thrown around often as potentials by the media. It's the media's perception that we're talking about and Sark never comes up in the great coach for a b or c University.

It's not about believable or factual aspects it's perceptions and talking points by the media. Steve never comes up in the discussion, that's a fact. Why his name never comes up when all those other names do is a reasonable question. The most logical conclusion is the media perspective/perception is he isn't a high demand candidate for those big name coaching vacancies.

December 31, 2025Dec 31 It's hard to play devil's advocate when DeBoer at Bama, Lanning, and Freeman do actually get mentioned for other jobs, especially two already being at blue bloods.I dunno, maybe the Texas job is different, but it's hard to ignore.

December 31, 2025Dec 31 Isn't there like 30 pages in this thread of bitching and moaning about Sark and NFL rumors? Now we are questioning a lack of rumors? All the coaches mentioned have actual game results that they can be judged on. Whomever a program with an opening or national media thinks is the best candidate is an useless data point.

7 hours ago7 hr He better hire a better OL coach or OC next year or he needs to be canned. Texas cannot waste Arch and the status to a top tier football program with the NIL here.
7 hours ago7 hr Sark has his flaws but in the last 3 years. This is damn good any way you cut it. *Big 12 championship and semi-finals appearance in playoffs*SEC championship appearance and semi-finals appearance in the playoffs*Around top 10 finish, a bowl win, and 10 wins

7 hours ago7 hr Sark teams are pretty weird. They rarely blow teams out, but they do play the full 48 minutes, and mostly win. Maybe that’s college football today. Arch was a huge part of the success tonight. Short of his spectacular play, every Sark team every year feels the same on both offense and defense. The offense struggles to run, and the passing game always includes a lot of lower percentage throws, combined with a small set of short passing plays they run over and over. Arch tonight enabled a lot more points. He was fantastic. The defense is usually vulnerable to giving up long drives that mix the run and pass effectively. I hope Muschamp brings something to help the defense get some more 3 and outs and limited drives. I have no idea what this team does next year. A lot depends on the portal, obviously.

He won the game without PK with 4 turnovers by the backup DC. We won with a 3rd string RB getting 100 yards. We had a 5th string WR catch the winning TD. We had our two top WRs go down yet we still won by 14.
6 hours ago6 hr I’m enjoying the fuck out of this win. Sark doesn’t get forgiveness for winning a bowl game where dudes balled out of control and legit didn’t talk to him. He didn’t call the 3 interception plays. He played a bunch of dudes that didn’t play all year and looked good. Don’t come here dunking on people who don’t like his whole assessment of everything including the lack of talent acquisition in the portal like he won the citrus bowl with his genius. I’m solidly out on this guy and that’s fine for me. Maybe he will not shit his pants next year against kiffin

6 hours ago6 hr Look, the "culture" stuff does get overplayed, but that was an impressive effort by our entire team tonight. They wanted that win. That game was physical and chippy as fuck with the Michigan players and we knocked them out when it mattered. That's the sign of a healthy locker room and program.
6 hours ago6 hr It’s too difficult imo to be fully happy with Sark or fully out on Sark. The last three years have been a mix of really good and a fair amount of not so good. Next year should be pretty telling.

Playoff or bust now.
