Gotta figure out that OH1 spot. And Opp too.

Madi is so inconsistent with her hitting. She has a tough time adjusting to a "not-so perfect" set on the left pin.  But she puts up a big block at the net.

Parra only has one shot (sharp cross-court) and she tends to hit it out when she tries to go around the block. Her blocking is her weakest skill.

Molly looked liked she turned the corner with her hitting against OSU in game 1. But the past two games have shown if she isn't getting a perfect in-system set, she doesn't have the power to put the ball down.

Devin can hit from both pins and puts up a big block. She just needs more playing time IMO.

I feel like the best line-up would be starting Devin at OH1 and Madi at Opp.

So the Stanford match will be their home opener. Should be another fun/hostile environment

We have a lot to work on, but I bet JE would rather we have things to do work on than nothing at all.  We still have questions at setter and OH2.

Minny's serving errors really killed them, but they had to do what we used to do in recent years - serve extremely aggressive to take the opponent out of system.  Texas is too good in system, so you go big or go home from behind the line.  Texas can actually dial back their serving because the backrow is so solid with Fleck and Halter.

3 straight matches the opponent has more SEs than Texas?  Doesn't happen often for us against big name ranked teams.

Miner (Stanford setter) doesn't put up as big of a block or net presence as Shaffmaster.  Stanford also is prone to service errors to take their opponent out of system - they had 21 versus Florida.

Man, I think you guys are overthinking it. Minny is BIG. Very big. Not many teams can throw 6'5-6'7-6-3 at you even when running a 5-1. They were swinging for the fences on service to get Texas oos and then putting up a huge block. That was clearly their gameplan and considering their personnel, a good one. Not many teams can do that to Texas. So Texas seemed to be trying to figure it out. As far as Skinner is concerned, playing OPP is NOT the same as OH. A lot more timing and communication is needed with a new setter during gamplay. I think she will find a rhythm. It's just the comparison is one of the best Longhorns to ever do it, so we are so used to excellence that a "good" player seems ho-hum. Eggleston is both your garbage man(you can just throw any trash out to her and she will handle it) and powerful finisher. So ball location isn't a focal point but when you have slightly lesser athletes out there it is.

Over on VolleyTalk, they said JE mentioned at Point Texas that we can bid for the NCAA Final Four in Moody, but the issue is and is always going to be the arena's distance from the Convention Center and hotels.  Being able to host the AVCA Convention right across from the arena is one of the reasons why Omaha is a great destination for the Final Four.

Maybe UT should bid using Houston - GRB and Toyota Center are pretty conveniently located, with hotels all around.

 Toyota Center yes. GRB no.

Fun game last night. mbb was all in, every coach seemed to be there with every player just soaking it all in while being as loud as possible. Bijan and two dorks who seem like his hanger-ons joined in set 2. Bijan must've been asked for 50 photos and did not seem to care, just smile & click. Kids caught a t-shirt thrown by Corona when softball team came out. MN will only get better if they avoid injury IMO. They play fast and timing on some of those fast outside sets was off but they looked better than tosu IMO. Home court definitely helped, MN seemed to have more service errors than usual.

Same as what we saw vs tosu. Our ds/lb and setting is much improved. We look like we belong and not just attempting to out athlete a good team, high level ball taking place. We went away from our middles on offense too much before re-adjusting towards the end. Great win.

Bella Bergmark confirms she is coming back for next year.  I don't think it was in doubt, but this is her fifth year of college / fourth year of competing (redshirted in 2019), so she could have decided to start real life, but she will use her COVID year in 2023.

With O'Neal graduating and Caffey only a one year rental, having Bergmark back with (likely RS FR) Singletary will be great.  Incoming FR Nya Bunton can either redshirt or compete with Singletary.  Of course, Elliot will keep an eye on the portal if he sees a clear upgrade over Bergmark, Singletary and Bunton.

Big match today!

Other scores this week/weekend:

Pitt beat OSU. Hopefully they can knock off Louisville today to make up for it.

Baylor lost to Pepperdine and won their other 2 matches. Kansas swept their 3 matches.

USC beat UNI but lost their other 2 matches to Creighton and Kentucky. Sorry, Sky Money
